I was a 12-13 year old kid when this came out. This is PURE GOLD...SPEECHLESS. And that Bass player??? What??? Sounds like they were the ones who recorded the original track...What a treat. WOW. SMH.
Terry Kath on guitar. One of the best guitar players of all time. I highly recommend Chicago at Tanglewood. 25 or 6 to 4 / Make Me Smile / It Better End Soon / all great performances when the guys were very young. But Terry's guitar solos will blow your mind!
I love all the lives they did. The extended versions, and live concerts. Quality is of the times but it gives a eye opening into WHO they really are instead of edited studio. I think they are the best record.
I love Chicago, but what an honor. i can just see it in their eyes. They're so proud to be the backing band for the man himself. you can see it in their eyes.
This is from the TV special Chicago in the Rockies, filmed at Caribou Ranch in 1973. Al Green was the guest star. James Guercio, Chicago's producer, bought the ranch and converted the barn into a recording studio. Chicago recorded 5 albums there. Elton John, Carole King, Tom Petty, and many other artists recorded there.
The videos from the ranch are not the best age wise, but it's very important for posterity of Al's music. Loved watching their videos from the studio. Ann Murray, Charlie Rich, so many great acts. Beautiful atmosphere for them and their family.
Yeah the smiles tell the story: holy shit we’re backing AL GREEN!!! He’s like the chill Otis Redding: puts it all into his singing, and loves to improvise and play around with the vocal.
Al Green is one of the finest soul singers. Listen to him is healing for the soul. What can I say about Chicago? They were the very top. I never listen to them playing together. It's a nice surprise for me. Thank you for bring this song. I love it ❤
Great reaction Harri 👍 WOW! what an incredible collaboration, never seen this before and am completely blown away. Apparently this did get released on a CD reissue of 'Chicago VI' their 1973 album as a bonus track back in 2002...I will be looking to pick this up ASAP.
Now how am I gonna get to sleep? After am these years, Al still gets to me! Chicago with Al Green are a natural pairing, as Al always has a lot of brass backing him up. Harri, I really really wish you d react to "Belle.". One of his finest!
This is unbelievably one of the best surprises I've heard on your channel Harri. 👏👏👏🎶🎶🎶 I'm in musical paradise, one my favourite vocalists and Bands from my youth. ❤❤ I've never seen this and I won't forget it. Hallelujah Thank you Harri. You've nailed the perfect tune and reaction. 🥰🥰🥰 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I remember watching this when it originally aired 8th or 9th grade. Yeah it was awesome Al Green "Let's Stay Together" was the first album I ever bought and I remember riding in my cousin's 1967 or 68 Firebird convertible blasting "Fancy Colors" from Chicago's second album on 8 track...
Loved watching you watch this!! It's a real find, too. Imagine Chicago as your own personal back-up band! They were all just music fans, too in many ways. They probably could have their pick of anyone in those days, too. And Al was a really good choice guys!!💚 Thanks for this Harry😍
Thank you so much for doing this one. I've been trying for years to get someone to react to this. This is pure gold You are the pioneer reactor on this one I believe
Oh, yeah...this looks like a TV special from back in the '70's called "Meanwhile Back at the Ranch". It was recorded in the studio at Caribou Ranch, owned by Chicago's producer. In addition to the recording studio, there were cabins, dinning facilities, horse stables and more. The producer wanted to have a beautiful place in Colorado where the guys could relax and create great music away from the distractions in the city. I think they recorded 2 or 3 albums there. Elton John's album "Caribou" was also recorded there.
I'm as surprised by this combination as you are. Wonderful to see those big smiles on the band. Your reaction is just perfect -- surprise, laughter, delight.
Thanks Harri good choice,This brings back memories, this very song was playing at our local disco when i first danced with the girl who became my wife, many moons ago lol. To my beautiful wife i call my lotus blossom love you.
Actually it's a bonus track on the Rhino Records rerelease of Chicago VI. It follows another bonus track, the previously unreleased demo track by Terry Kath, "Beyond All Our Sorrows".
Been cool if Peter Cetera (on bass) had sung a bit with Green. Cetera later as a solo act (1992) dueted with Chaka Khan on "Feels like heaven" and it was off the chain.
No, his name was Peter Cetera and he wasn't fat. 👽 The guitar player smiling was Terry Kath (RIP) he put on a lot weight later before shooting himself in the head on 1/23/78.
In that time period, who was better vocally than Al Green? Sam Cooke was gone at this point. Cooke would have been in the conversation. As good as others were in this time. (Way better that today) So to answer my question, nobody.
This is Totally Awesome!!!
WHAT A TREAT!!!
Can’t stop smiling. 😊
Now this is music! Next Stevie Wonder with Chicago/ lol. I thank God I was raised on Soul Train in the 70,s! Hallelujah ya,ll!
Al Green is the 🐐… no contest
I suggest the Terry Kath Experience documentary by Terry's daughter. Amazing, and it dicusses this and the concert on the ranch..
Doesn't get much better than this, thanks man
Ok. Top that. I doubt you can. As big a smile as i have ever had on a TH-cam video. Thank you Harri.
How cool was that. Terry Kath on guitar. Much love
Terry Kath was the guitarist

I love Chicago, but what an honor. i can just see it in their eyes. They're so proud to be the backing band for the man himself. you can see it in their eyes.
Sweet Jesus! Al Green’s voice was unreal!!! Man that was beautiful, loved it.
Terry Kath is the guitar player and one of the three great singer's along with Robert Lamb on organ. Terry being my favorite singer.

Gotta find it!
Yes, I was a 12-year-old 7th grader when this special aired. I remembered this like it was yesterday! It was awesome1.
The videos from the ranch are not the best age wise, but it's very important for posterity of Al's music. Loved watching their videos from the studio. Ann Murray, Charlie Rich, so many great acts. Beautiful atmosphere for them and their family.
Wow, 2 of my favorites from the past. You can't listen to AL Green with out bouncing with him.
I love the bounce!😁

Yeah the smiles tell the story: holy shit we’re backing AL GREEN!!! He’s like the chill Otis Redding: puts it all into his singing, and loves to improvise and play around with the vocal.
You are a true wizard harry, now if you could only find the beach boys backing up Chicago, another classic. 😅

Harri I enjoyed your reaction to this as much heaven as the music itself. 😂 I don't think I've ever seen you this excited.
I was 😁
Al Green in his prime is like no one else. The awesome Chicago horns are the icing on the cake.
Thank you so much for doing this one. I've been trying for years to get someone to react to this. This is pure gold
You are the pioneer reactor on this one I believe
Nothing in this world is better than Chicago and Al Green playing music together... Why can't we ALL just get along?

The organ was a substitute for the backup singers. On that part of the song he has backup singers.
Please do Chicago ~ "BABY WHAT A BIG SURPRISE"....!
Terry Kath. He passed way to soon due to a tragic incident. People always check the chamber!
I think this is available as bonus track on the remastered Chicago V... no need to do anything illegal 😇
Actually it's a bonus track on the Rhino Records rerelease of Chicago VI. It follows another bonus track, the previously unreleased demo track by Terry Kath, "Beyond All Our Sorrows".

Actually a great pairing, Chicago is the greatest horn section this side of EWF.
His name is Peter Fatman from Chicago. I think that’s who was smiling.
No, his name was Peter Cetera and he wasn't fat. 👽 The guitar player smiling was Terry Kath (RIP) he put on a lot weight later before shooting himself in the head on 1/23/78.
Do you know the song "Silent Veil by Theodore Paul and Gabriel? It was a french Girl Group.
In that time period, who was better vocally than Al Green? Sam Cooke was gone at this point. Cooke would have been in the conversation. As good as others were in this time. (Way better that today) So to answer my question, nobody.
Maybe Wilson Pickett🤔
