Thanks for uploading this. I remembering watching this along with "Amanda's" when it premiered. I thought both shows were pretty good, but then again I was only 12 when they premiered. I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to see something I haven't seen since my childhood.
Thank you so much for posting this. I love the theme song and the beautiful Julie Carmen. I was always sorry this show didn't last longer, it's a good show. I still use the "Harry Happy Pants" line.
Haha Funny thing I noticed about this scene. The actor whose wearing the red shirt character is named Jesse Rodriquez. That's the name of the owner of the Mexican bakery I work at. Haha Who knew ???? Haha
The McLean Stevenson Curse continued on with this very short-lived sitcom. Too damn bad as from what I watched of it, it had some potential. Found it interesting that they used a different type of color and font for the opening credits while the rest of the credits are the same style of any Witt-Thomas Production.
I love McLean Stevenson, I'm writing episode scripts for "The McLean Stevenson Show", (my hobbie is writing scripts for 70's/80's shows) !!! M*A*S*H's Colonel Henry Blake is the best!!!!
With Sadness: McLean Stevenson seen here died Feb of 1996 of a hearttack and his sidekick Rodriguez (Luis Avalos) in this sitcom died Jan 22, 2014. Mary Tyler Moore is going blind and dealing with diabetes, and Rhoda is having her share of health problems. Who's next? Betty White? Marlo Thomas?? All my icons of sitcoms of days gone by are going before my eyes. I agree with Joan Rivers who summed it up with: AGING SUCKS!!!! IT STINKS AND SUCK!!!!
Poor McLean, it seemed like every sitcom he tried to do was just not meant to be. The opening scene background music must have inspired the Golden Girls, since I see the same names and font as the Golden Girls.
This show is horrible. I feel so bad for McLean Stevenson. He was a funny guy and he deserved a few hits under his belt. Problem is, after he left M*A*S*H, he just kept landing in one bomb after another. Maybe the "sitcom" wasn't what McLean needed. They should've put him on a buddy cop show. Like an NYPD Blue, CHiPs, Dragnet type of series, only humorous, and McLean would play a detective. He'd be the "straight" guy, you know, the funnier of the two because he plays all the funny situations straight, like Peter Graves and Leslie Nielsen in Airplane. Then give him a goofier partner, and see how that would work. I think a cop show would've worked better for McLean than a sitcom.
Monty Hall said in an interview McLean Stevenson had too much of an ego and wanted all of the laughs. That’s partly why all of his sitcoms failed. The best comedies are when the whole cast has some of the laughs.
sitcoms now suck. not funny at all. i miss seeing a sitcom without an audience. now its like a mini movie. plus i miss going to a sitcom being filmed. its fun being in the audience. like when i saw all in the family, three's company, golden girls, golden palace and mr. t & tina.
Everyone always pinpoints "Hello, Larry" as McLean's worst post-"MASH" sitcom. Nope. It was this. Tacky, offensive, badly-written Zionist tripe all the way. And this is one of the better episodes too. The pilot -- which had the "grandpa", apparently fed up with all the characters yelling their lines, taking a sledgehammer and knocking down the wall between their condos (all by himself of course) so everyone could "live and love" -- was one of the most putrid half hours that has ever been on television. "Condo" made "Hello, Larry" look like "MASH."
You would very much expect better from Witt/Thomas, who were hailed as "the Cadillac of sitcoms". This definitely didn't have the same caliber of writing as The Golden Girls.
Susan Harris wasn't involved with this. Witt/Thomas' shows without her were hit and miss (by this point in time, usually miss). Although considering Sheldon Bull did "Condo" the same year as "Newhart," it's shocking how bad it came out in comparison. But then Susan herself had "The Secret Lives of Men" and "Fay," so I suppose we all have our dogs.
@@LoneWolfAttack Yes, Susan wasn't involved and it shows. Actually, the interviewer who said the "Cadillac of sitcoms" line did refer to Witt/Thomas/Harris Productions, not just to Tony and Paul alone, so there you have it.
Not exactly a different creative team. Both shows were produced by Witt/Thomas Productions, and quite a few people listed in the credits--Gil Junger, Susan Palladino, and Harry Waterson among them--also worked on The Golden Girls.
0:24 Condo may have premiered in early 1983, but that theme song, with those blaring disco era strings and horns, SCREAMS early 1979!
Awww…Luis Avalos (Rodriguez). RIP. Thanks for teaching me through the Electric Company.

CLU7 : Same here. I was also 12 when this show first appeared in 1983. Funny show. To bad it didn't last long.
"I'm 48 and a half!" He looks 75 lol.
Right. He was 56 when they filmed this. As someone who is 55 now, I took offense at that line lol
I think the term "short lived sitcom" and McLean Stevenson mean the same thing.
McClean Stevenson makes one more deposit in the bank of misery. He just couldn't have a successful show for the life of him. How 💔 heartbreaking.

Great theme song! I liked this sitcom too!

I actually remember the intro to Condo! Saw it a few times on TV.
I sadly only have this episode. It was such a great show!
thanks for posting condo, i watched it when it was first on. 30yrs ago damn.
please add more if you have them.

He was let down with very weak scripts and he was a supporting actor not a lead.
Brooke Alderson also had a memorable role as Aunt Corine in 1980's Urban Cowboy with John Travolta.

lefty lucy Maybe they can do a remake using your scripts and starring McLean Jr.
This appears to be Condomania, episode 10, airing April 28, 1983.

All those cast members relied on the bright star that was McLain Stephenson....sad!
If this show survived there would be no Skippy. Although I really did like this show as a kid.
Henry, Larry, Mac, James....who is this man??!

Episode title is Condomania.

Which also happens to be the name of a Condom store in Boston................but I digress.

by the same people as the golden girls same music
The music may sound the same, but different creative team.
Not exactly a different creative team. Both shows were produced by Witt/Thomas Productions, and quite a few people listed in the credits--Gil Junger, Susan Palladino, and Harry Waterson among them--also worked on The Golden Girls.
Geez- no wonder this flopped. I know he hated failing after leaving MASH.
McLean Stevenson was very credible as the suburban bigot.
This show has potential but this storyline is painfully weak.
Just, just......................... NO.
thats too bad,but thanks anyway.
His horrible acting really comes thru here.
I LIVED IN ELPASO I KNOW HOW IT FEELS. BUILD THE WALL;HAIL TRUMP.
Wow, this is pretty bad.
