Im so glad you reacted to this! I highly recommend Be Kind Rewind videos on Joan Crawford, there are a few that channel does that do an amazing job at highlighting the story behind this movie and also the story behind the legend that goes beyond this movie. This movie ended up being a accidental cult classic bc the director and producers didn't scale back the over-acting and didn't give any context to why Joan was the way she was.
Hollywood really made light of Christina walking in on Joan and the maid drunk and laughing. The truth is: Christina “walked in” on Joan and the maid…forget the axe and wire hangers; they were scissor-sisters🤣🤣🤣
I enjoyed that reaction ! I can never say no to this film. This film is as camp as Liza Minelli singing life is a cabaret while ridding a fully decorated Christmas tree but it is giving me LIFE every time !! I am sorry but Faye Dunaway should just embrace her performance. She HATES talking about it and she actually asks for interviewers not to even mention the film. It is sad she takes herself too seriously, she really should have a sense of humor about it and embrace the LGBT following she has with that film. However, it is super ironic but Bette Davis in an interview once called Faye Dunaway "The worst person I ever had to worked with" so you just know that if Bette Davis calls the actress who played the one person she had the biggest holywood feud in history with in a movie the worst actress she ever worked with that it means Faye Dunaway must be next level difficult haha
She supposedly hated wire hangers because they reminded her of extreme poverty she grew up in the only job her single mom could get was doing the neighbors laundry
Ik No One Is Killed During This Movie But To Me This Film Will Forever Be Horror Thriller Especially That Wire Hanger Scene Joan Was Looking Like Pennywise's Lady Friend
I heard that it's because wire hangers cause dents on clothes, not to mention rust and damage clothes, so that's probably why they aren't ideal for the "expensive" dresses. Though others claim that its due to childhood trauma of Joan's related to poverty and laundromats
Other accounts were that Crawford hated wire hangers because she had a few back alley abortions as a young woman, and wire hangers were used for the procedure back then.
Look the mothering was dark from beginning to end you went reeeal light on her parenting She wasn’t competitive in the pool she was jealous She wasn’t being petty by trashing her dolls, she was being cruel
Thank you for your reaction.i have been a fan of the movie mommie dearest for almost 24 years.i am glad it was made.it is a powerful look at family violence and dysfunction.
@@YCRhinoReactions A lot of people an abusive parent react the same way to this movie. Everyone else laughs at how over the top Faye Dunaway's acting is; they're horrified by how realistic it is. The lack of an explanation within the film just makes it feel even more real.
Some of the timeline stuff in this movie is messy. The great part she wanted but wasn't offered MIGHT have been "A Woman's Face" but Christina would've only been a toddler, I think. I also don't think the hair cutting scene was even in the book - might've been purely invented for the film. The other big one that's always bugged me is the night she wins the Oscar for Mildred Pierce because the photo of her receiving the award in bed is quite famous and her hair is very different because she was filming Humoresque at the time. Great reaction video btw!
I read the book, its very very similar to the movie. Though, there is tons of explanations in the book like for the wire hangers and the night raids. And there is stuff in the book that wasnt in the movie, in regards to when Christina went to the private school. I highly recommend the book.
In the interview with Christina crawford she revealed the reason why Joan crawford was bot approved for adoption with the agency is they noticed her temperament she didn't talk to any of her relatives and of course she was single too yes but she also had Bo relationships with her relatives . But they were right after all with that hunch...she always used objects to hit her and she said she did make a mistake and use 2 wire coat hangers ..that was cleanser that spilled all over the bathroom floor. I would not keep a baby only to give them up and subject a poor orphan to this . It's so sad and inexcusable what a mother she was to these poor children and they are scarred for life the movie doesn't really even begin to describe the abusive childhood these children had to endure
Christina Crawford DID NOT LIKE this movie--'cuz it focused more on Joan than--HER--Christina's story--I was like F*** you Christina--sympathy for Christina was lost over time--sad to think ..in retropect..
While this movie is considered a classic, it's also horribly portrayed. According to the real Christina, they did not represent Joan correctly at all like the movie made her out to be this overly exaggerated psychotic supervillain. Not to say Joan was a perfect mother cause otherwise there wouldn't be a book but the movie was still inaccurate to how it really was and I feel bad for Christina for what they turned her book into.
I saw. "Mommy Dearest " in its initial release, FAYE DUNAWAY wonderful but CHRISTINA not totally truthful which time as shown. When you look at "Mildred Pierce " be sure to see "Possessed " 1946 she also did a different "Possessed " about 1934.
I think there were enough witnesses to confirm at least some shit went down. Others say it couldn’t have happened but lots of people only see one side of someone and have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. In general, I believe Christina.
@@YCRhinoReactions Gurl, you need to do some more movie viewing! I suggest 'Citizen Kane", 1941, directed by Orson Welles. Now THAT'S a good biographical movie about a famous deceased person!

The soap opera was Secret Storm. Fun fact: the soap set was actually the set of Happy Days.
Not Sophia from Golden Girls 🤣

agree! i might've known you'd know where to find the boys...AND the booze.

LMAO! She looked crazy as hell. You're right about the Pennywise reference. All she was missing was the sharp teeth.
@@dariusbrock2351 Exactly Drag Race Makes It Sound So Campy But Its Really Terrifying nightmare fuel
So much fun! Thank you. Barbara PLEASE!
No matter how many times I see this i just love it.
Yay!!
One of the most quotable movies of all time. I love it and Faye’s over the top acting
They definitely had a strained relationship but even Christina says the movie was a gross exaggeration.
yes I heard her say that but I don't care - the film is comedy gold. Faye is an over-the-top trainwreck as JCrawford

I'm so excited to see you watching this movie! It's such a classic! ❣️❣️
Common girl as she’s cutting the rose bush 😂😂😂🥰💖🌸 your lighthearted commentary really uplifted that scene loool
That house. Joan Crawford did that. She started out as a dancer. For that I respect. The rest of it no Mommie dearest.
I remember first seeing this film as a kid, like 4-5 range, and it's never left me. My first camp classic lol
I think the wire hanger thing was a response to her childhood trauma, well her mother worked in laundry service. It triggered her, probably.
I loooooove thiiiiis ❤ great video
Thank you!!
very triggering.......although my mother was obviously not a famous hollywood actress, but the behaviour reminds me of mommie dearest
Wow, I’m sorry to hear that. ☹️

Yes, Miss Crawford did fill in for Christina during the latter's illness.
10 years??? 😅 It's usually an actual event when Mommie Dearest comes on.
Yes that really happened. The Secret Storm. Unfortunately no visual record remains
Only a audio clip
?
Sorry, the reply was when you asked about if Joan really appeared on her daughter s soap when she was sick. I just wish we had video of it

The movie and book, if somewhat sketchy and in some cases, non factual, gave a inside look of a very famous Hollywood star.
Im on Joan's side
Me too. 🤭
Why? Unless you mean the real Joan and not this violent monster version in the movie.
I am on Christina's side.
I'm on Faye Dunaway's side for portraying Joan as a hilarious trainwreck. hours of laughter for me and friends
I'm divided on if Joan Crawford was actually like this. Abusive...
The article I read said she was a stern parent but she never actually beat Tina with a clothes hangar. That was made up for the movie.
@@YCRhinoReactions thank you for this

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
A masterclass in overacting, and the best part, it was meant to be serious 😁
It was phenomenally bad.
@@YCRhinoReactions which made it phenomenally good 😝
It’s the best “bad” movie of all time
The two worst things about this movie: the bad script and the bad editing. Once you have those two things, you most probably will have a bad movie.
