Crafting spells is clear once learned. Typically 50 points of each element and 1-5 of any item to boost. I'm curious why later in the game some element deposits only give 5-10 points vs. the usual 45-50? Once that's answered, I'll give this video a thumbs up.

how do the debased coins /rare coins work with this they add exp it sewma what's best way to use these early on in lvl 4 i think
I actually made a seperate video on the coins and expericast. The short of it is, you want to get as close to 99 level expericast as you can then cast it in easy to win battles to take advantage of the bonus exp you get from the report card score. You also want to eat a food the increases exp gained and possible wear the moogle bands if you have access to them. Then after all that you want to sleep at a hotel that has a high multiplyer. At the end of chapter 1 you get a free stay in a 2x hotel for free. So save all exp til then.

LemonEatingKow ty don't have niggle basically just started game trying to lvl up some before continuing game and make sure I domt miss good early weapons armor I'm on the mesSenger Prince quest or something and have only 2 debased coins so far. would cactars be good to farm? I made a things exp spell just fiddling around. can't do figure out how to fast travel to locations on thr map just back to the first camp i made kr the car..

Curaga
How to use curaga: use a mix of elements to create unicast but don’t exceed 200 potency (over 200 is a waste) add 2 high potions. You now have healcast level 3 (curaga) and can cast it without the ring of resistance equipped and without hurting your party. High potions become very common, more so than regular potions. Elements are easy to get. If magic tree is complete it cost even fewer elements and you get x5 . Other catalysts May give more quantity, but aren’t as easily acquired.
Blastcast
Don’t sleep on blastcast either. You can get some extremely high potency spells from very common treasures. If blastcast Effect is 99 and you don’t have ring of resistance on it will leave noctis with 1 hp. You can counter this by immediately phasing after throwing. Just need the Ascension node that gives health back if you dodge after taking damage. These are high potency high quantity spells.
Elemental
If you want 999 potency pure agas (firagA, blizzaga, thundaga) that aren’t dualcast, quintcast etc use two elements and quality building stones.
Limit Break
Also you can use medals, adamantoise meat, adamantite, and lord vexxos dolls for flare, freeze, and electon. Mix all three elements with these catalysts for maxi cast.
Poison
If you’re low level venom cast will be your best friend against high level big hp enemies. Very easy to make aim for venom cast lvl 99 and potency of 500+
Curse/Time
I haven’t found any real benefit from cursecast or stop cast.
XP
Expiracast can also be made with certain fish and cockatrice parts, I think old books and fossils as well but don’t quote me on the last two.
Free Cast
The items that make free cast tend to be more useful not in spells. *For example platinum ingot will get you free cast but is best for selling for LOTS of Gil.*
Death
Killcast is a waste as most spells with 500+ potency anhialate your enemies. Also if you’re low level killing your party instantly with your spell is less than ideal.
Protect/Shell
The ring of resistance only protects your party from the initial blast, not the after effects. Various outfits and grear provide elemental resistance and often time is enough to not have to use ring of resistance.
Lastly Ignis’ technique regroup is good for getting your party out of the blast zone before you throw a spell if you want.
Demi
Unfortunately there are only 2 ways to use gravity magic. Promptos technique Gravishpere and the weapon (machinery) Gravity Well (don’t remember the exact name)
Magic in FFXV is one of my favorite parts of this game lol.
I forgot to include the Powercast spell.
Powercast
Increased PowerIncreased damage factored in Catalyst’s Power Value. All Powercast spells are at Tier 1 even if beyond 100.
items used:
Small Beak,
For those capped on Sabertusk Claws from farming AP, or those who just want to be overpowered in the early game, chuck those in as catalysts. Each claw will boost the Potency as well as the amount of casts. I believe you can get 36 casts and over 200 potency if you use 99 Claws.
This is a brilliant way to get high damage spells early on. Selling the claws can help in the early game but turning them into spells may be better. Another good starting spell is buying Sheeps Milk and using them as a catalyst, giving you Dualcast spells at a high potency.

Thank you! I was kind of getting bored with just casting spells of the three elements haha. That also explains why I keep picking up random items / treasures.
Started this game again once I got my ps5 a few months back. Another solid 60 hours and no platinum but I digress. Worst magic system ever, then again, I enjoyed the draw system in ff8 (because I loves the card minigame)

I actually think getting anything past 30/50 potency in the skills tree is pointless. I find regular fire/ice/lightning spells better in terms of utility. The main reason is that its very likely you're always going to want to maximize damage by attacking an enemy with the element its weakest to.Chances are that you'll start getting 9,999 damage very early. Sure, big spells are very useful as a first attack but you can't quite use them when your party is already attacking an enemy or a horde of enemies.( unless you're constantly eating meals that give you element immunities) I'd like to venomcast/stopcast without compromising my entire team as well. Tier 1 spells are just much more manageable I find .
Another thing: Dualcast to Quintcast spells are kind of terrible on tier 3 spells.(especially when you're already able to do 9,999 dmg with tier1) All the hits before the final one seem to only have the range of tier 1 spells. I don't think the AoE long lasting field after the initial spell is too beneficial much of the time especially when it stuns your team or prevents them from getting too close to the area to keep attacking. For example: You could cast Firaga from an acceptable range where it doesn't hit your allies but going up to the area still stuns your team. On the other hand you can get about 50k damage off a quintcast fire (about the same you could get from a quintcast firaga)without fucking up your team's flow. It's also difficult to predict if your enemy will even stay around the AoE area to keep taking damage from the field.
The other reason I say that having about 30 potency of initial magic is best because once you reach a certain point in the game you'll no doubt be collecting plenty of loot (unless you sell it all) and there are some ingredients than only raise the spell's potency by a small amount but raise the amount of spells you can cast decently. Take for example insect stingers: They are no doubt plenty easy to accumulate. About 50 insect stingers make 20+ venomcasts without raising the potency to Tier 2 magics. I find this extremely useful because one could just farm insect stingers and get like 30-40 casts of magic that you can cast and store in your inventory to use. It can become a hassle to constantly go into your menu to keep making magic over and over again and sometimes one just wants to store a good amount of x, y, or z magic without having to go into the menu every time. Keeping magics with status effects at tier 1 level are much more beneficial since you can basically use them at any time you wish because they're much easier to manage due to lowered range. Also, spending 555 and 999 AP for extra potency is just not worth it IMO
TL;DR: Tier 1 magics are more useful and more controllable(especially during an ongoing battle). Big booms and status effects don't mix. Tier 3 spells for preemptive attacks. Getting 100 potency in skills tree is a bad idea because it costs too much AP and you'll lose the ability to cast Tier 1 magics.
This is very solid info! Thanks for the addition. The friendly fire was a terrible idea in the game. I see no way that it could be excused. I really hope they roll the anti-magic ring into normal gameplay.
The added effects and blast radius is definitely something to consider. Most of the times though I will just sacrafice the bros for once massive hit on the enemy.
The main use of the increased potency cast would be for boosting the maxicast/ limit break spells.
Overall magic is so crippling yet so powerful. I guess that is the tradeoff.

good advice man, thanks. That's why i haven't been using any magic is cause i can't be bothered going into the menu's all the time. Any others besides insect stingers that are good and easy to acquire to get a large amount of spell casts?
Tri-cast: Crooked helixhorns. Just go to coernix bypass by the parking spot(under lestallum). There should be plenty of spira corns around the area as well as a camping spot. Using sword of the wise just break off all their horns by warp striking. Would help to use the food that gives item discovery. Alternatively to cast bigger spells you can farm the hunt by ravatogh with all those wyverns for wyvern wings. (its a great way to make money too if you just sell them)
Cursecast: There was only one item I found that gives you many spell casts and thats the crimson tongue. The only good way to get that is to do the "They came back from the mountain" hunt from lestallum. That might take a while though. Another method is to farm seadevils in the maiden water area. Sharp head fins are good but it only gives you a couple casts before it turns into the next tier of spell. They're good to make tier 3 spells to cursecast. The third method is to farm slimy oils in rainy weather from the gigantoads. You can actually summon them with the beast whistle repeatedly if you get yourself in an area where enemies spawn. Slimy oil is alright but its probably best to use them one at a time. 9 slimy oils make 10 cursecast spells if you have 30 potency base
Stopcast: To my knowledge no enemies drop items to make these spells so the only method to acquire them sadly is to either pick up broken harmonicas/ancient dragon tooths or any other items off the ground that give you those and use them sparingly. You can also use maiden's kisses. 5x give you a 99 effect potency spell but sadly the potency of the spell itself never raises so you'll be stuck at whatever your base potency is. That AND the spell amount only raises a tiny bit so you'd probably only get 8 casts from mixing 99 of them
As for venomcasts and insect stingers the best place to farm those would be by the wennath riverhead parking spot, right above the Burbost Souvenir Emporium. You'll want to to get to the camp area there and travel to the right until you get to the end. There should be an area there in which if you use the beast summon whistle, you will ALWAYS get a single killer bee. It didn't take me too long to get 2 sets of 36x spells with 99 spell potency to save up for later.
That's most of what I've found for now.

Vid Game RGRE this is late but if you go to lestallum and go to the woman who works at the power plant, the suit is located to her left. Her left as in left from her perspective. It should appear as a shining blue dot, like any other item you pick off the floor. It should be on a crate I think

Colombia Quiroz After you create the spell equip it like you would a weapon.
Quadcast is the name of the spell, Quad meaning 4. The 'II' marks the spell as an second tier or potency 'cast' spell. Unicast, duocast, tricast, quadcast and quintcast are all spells that will cast a random element spell each time you use it. The 'x4' is how many uses of it you have. '4 chain' is the effect the catalyst added. This is what gave the spell the 'Quad' prefix, because the spell hit 4 times each time Noctis uses it. and level 60 is the amount of 'Quad catalyst' you put into it. Generally the more catalysts you add to the spell the higher this number will be, until 99. It generally also gives you more uses of the spell.
And right now you may be even more confused than you were :D
I'm level 45 now and never used anything more than blizzard, fire or thunder! I've always thought they had really neglected the magic system in this game. Turns out I just didn't know about the catalyst system :-) Really upped my gameplay :-)
I am really love when something like this happens in games. Before the internet I used to play lots of RPGs on the PS1. Sometimes I would start playing a game and think... 'this is really lacking and missing something' then after poking around more it turned out there was a whole mechanic or skill system I wasn't using properly. Really turns a game around!

Did I miss something or did the game never explain or provide a tutorial on Elemency crafting? I beat the whole game assuming that last slot at the bottom was some powerful magic I'd be able to get towards the later stages of the game
You never selected it to see if your assumption was valid? Once you click on it you can obviously see that random potions and items effect the spells.

Not a bad video but the fact that you can find elemental weapons combine with the fact that there are no enemies in the game with a real need to use magic against makes magic in this game nothing more than optional extra with no real need for it. I Put in about 120 hours on this game and used magic about 3 times and just hacked n slashed my way through the whole thing.
funfact: using weapons is also completely optional because you can easily farm materials and finish the game using magic only
Pennershnsch that's true and very possible if you choose to do so. but unlike other final fantasy games where thay actually have a fully fleshed out magic system with a vast choice of spells this game really doesn't offer alot in the way of magic, You have ur 3 basic elemental spells a death spell and one or two others maybe if your lucky. In other final fantasy games there is a much bigger magic system aswell as bosses and other random battles that actually require you to think and use magic where as in 15 it isn't needed, You can go from start to finish in this game without ever having the need to use magic, That's all I'm saying.

maxicast is not the ont type of spell to pass and break the damage limit. You get limit break a items from some of the dungeon bosses and hunts.
Richard Chavez Maxicast is just the Unicast variation of the Limit Break Spells. depending on the element it will make Flare, Freeze or Electon. Which all break 9999.

Can you answer a question that I can't find anywhere else: After getting off the train, after fighting Leviathan, do some elemental deposits only give 5-10 points instead of 45-50? Just now a lighting deposit gave me 5 points through the whole process. Why??? WHY isn't this answer anywhere else? Why is this not made clear in the story?
Your best bet is to ask over on the FFXV sub reddit. I haven't played for a very long time. They are a great bunch over there.

I think it would be pretty cool if you did an analysis/explanation of each NPC technique. I feel like I never know which ones to equip. (such as Ignis Enhance vs. Libra Elementia or Gladio's Impulse vs. Hurricane or any of Prompto's). great vid though!
I use Enhance for Ignis, Dawnhammer for Gladio, and a fully upgraded Prompto's 3 bar ability because he does the most damage (I forget the exact name for it at the moment)
I know this is YEARS later but just in case you or someone else decides to pick it up again.
I dont do this for maximum anything, but I use this setup to match the natural escalation of battle. Fantastic for big bosses too

How do I know what to craft and what monsters are worth using that magic on? Do you use a guide and check for enemy weakness? Or is there some indicator that a certain monster is weak to something?

Hey Lemon my favorite thing to use is the rusted bit it’s funny to see imo a spell with Failcast level 99 and having like 60 casts to use at least I get 1 AP per cast

I've only been playing 2 days and spent about 4 hours trying to figure out water 😂 thought maybe use ice with a little fire or something, had no idea. The explanation of the 50% rule really helps, and exp spell was awesome. Didn't know that was even a thing either but definitely will be trying to craft some of them. Enjoying the game so far and haven't really enjoyed any games in a long time. Just got a +50% exp meal from the chocobo farm. The way they did chocobos this time is really nice. I've had fun just randomly running around trying to get items to 99 to sell lol. Will do missions again but having a lot fun just doing my own thing at the moment

You will always be able to cast three times.

I really enjoy all your videos! I was wondering why you said maxi cast was the strongest even though kill cast is an instant kill? Does kill cast have some draw back?
I shouyld have made it more clear in the video. Killcast only has a small CHANCE to kill then enemy it isn't guranteed. And I would assume most bosses would be immune to it. So the high amount of damage would be more of a pay off.

Experimenting is really the best once you know the basics. I prefer unicast just for the extra potency but if you got the elemental power make a whole bunch of spells.
BTW is there a Healcast that heals the entire party, as opposed to just the caster?
Yes there is, experimenting showed me it can be mixed with elements too, it depends on what item you mix with it

From memory potency has no affect on secondary effects on spell casts only the damage, hence the reason why it has 'levels' the higher the potency the more damage it does, one thing you did not mention is that certain items add more or less potency ( the same as levels for the secondary spell effects ). While the magic guide here is great. Magic is a must for the Menace dungeons and It's fun to nuke enemies with a 99999 Maxicast. But I Don't know how possible it is when I am going to be running level 1 characters.
Alister0510 Yeah that was my bad. I finished up editing at about 2 am so I was a little tired. The extra potency items may be good early on but generally you are going to want a multi cast. Thanks for the info though! I knew there would be stuff I would miss.

I personally never used magic in Either of my play throughs, until I came across a flan that was immune to weapon damage in a menace when I spammed Unicast and hopped for the best making me realise that it may be better to exploit weakness of certain enemies. It's still useful nonetheless and you taught me about the 50% thing so I'm happy about that

How do you unlock the item part
You just need to put at least one element in (fire, ice or lightning) then go down to the bottom circle.

Dj Simmons Yeah that is part of the limit break/ maxi cast family. Freeze and Electon are good against different enemies too.
