this, in my opinion, is the very core of what a good comedian is. he comes in to some late show, asked about banal past experiences, and almost magically manages to tell good old fashioned fine, funny stories, as simple as that. he uses whatever resource is available, and just nails it. mashallah brotha
Seeing him walk those two steps with Colbert to help him up and then steady himself with a hand on the desk was pretty difficult, knowing what we do know about what he was going though. Almost as difficult as seeing him wearing a proper suit and not a Sears Men's Section button down. A legend, really and truly. People who've only seen him in the movies have no idea how amazing a stand up Gilbert was. Relentlessly funny all the time. He'll be missed by anyone with a sense of humor.
That story about the autistic child learning to communicate through Iago is honestly so touching. I was diagnosed with Asperger's when I was 2, and The Genie was one of my best friends growing up. :,)
He had a way of being offensive without being mean. I don't think any subject should be off limits to comedy; I process life through jokes and laughter. Laughing at the heinous crap makes it tolerable, reminds me that this whole damn thing we're doing called living is pretty absurd when you try to make sense of it. Gilbert could do that without punching down , and I'll miss him for it.
Yeah I disagree with your whole opinion on life .Dont hate on me just saying my point of view ,there are better ways to handle a tragedy. Because the people affected by it wont laugh at the joke
@@dude9318 are you sure that aren't subjective too? "the people affected by it wont laugh at the joke" because most of the time when we don't laugh it wasn't set as a joke or the joke was really uncalled personal attack to someone. Comedian on stage saying "men at my age gets really ugly" is different from random guy pointing me and saying "you are old and ugly" on the street.
@Robert McConnell He realized it was way too soon for that, so thanks to his quick wit he abandoned his monologue and went into the aristocrats joke. Brilliant!
That’s a very weird way to phrase it, he told a 9/11 joke two days after 9/11 THEN he told the aristocrats joke so that would be a bigger headline then the 9/11 thing and it worked people forgot about it. But you’re acting like he planned on telling that to help people cope with 9/11 that isn’t at all what happened he pulled that aristocrats joke out of his ass he clearly wasn’t planning on telling it
Watching with Closed Captioning is so much more honest. I'd thought he had said Dick Van Dyke was 90 but now I know we are in the clear and he is only 19. So young for having accomplished so much. That kid is going places.
Daniel Rose hahaha! I'm deaf in one ear and often have to use CC,and yet it makes everything more hilarious because of things just like that. I put it on whenever i can to mess with people around me lol!
TheNocturnalpheonix I kind of love cc because I really focus on dialogue and performance when watching anything. TH-cam is just magical though. So ridiculous but you get the mist and a bit of a laugh when it is way off the mark.
You know, though I find his jokes about the Japan Tsunami and other tragic events in poor taste, you got to admire his sticking to who he is and not giving in to anyone.
I haven't heard this supposed tsunami joke but aside from his deep portfolio of character acting and VO he's a stand up with a giant archive. What people mostly recognize him as is 'Guy who says the wrong things for the sake of wrong racist misogynist tone deaf uncle/grampa gilbert godfried' (Think elderly Silverman) A frequently requested bit by talkshow hosts like Leno.
"they have a right to be insulted" No they do not. Nobody has a "right" to be insulted. Thats why this crybully PC bullshit is getting so out of hand. We need to start shaming the fuck out of people again for being butthurt over every little thing. They're not dicks, they're jokes; Don't take them so hard.
From his early stand-up on An Evening at the Improv to hosting USA Up All Night to his amazing, colossal podcast, Gilbert Gottfried has always been a favorite of mine. One of the greats!
Gilbert and Sam Kinison on Howard Stern on the day of Ryan White's funeral is the funniest radio in history. Gilbert is very good alone and piss your pants funny when he gets egged on.
Brilliant. He really is a beautiful man... with a beautiful family. Supremely talented... but the thing I admire most about him.. is that he never sold out!
Gilbert & i go way back, he & i were on the same Gong Show taping one day and we hung out often at the Comedy Store (but he wouldn't believe who i was then, he should ask Steven Pearl or several others who were around late 80's/early 90's)
Do yourself a favor and check out his podcast. Very funny and surprisingly insightful. They have a wonderful respect for old Hollywood, and the stories they get out of people are hilarious.
i hate to break it to you, this is his actual voice. Go watch his documentary “Gilbert”, you’ll see what I mean. He likes to exaggerate a lot when he’s performing, but it’s his real voice.
Here after his passing. I've been binging videos of him for hours. RIP to a legend
Damn right 🤘💯
Me too. Bittersweet, but hilarious.
Never another like Gilbert. Never not funny.
If you’re not a Howard Stern fan check him out on Stern.

And it's time to bury him in the back yard.
He was! RIP.
''I like to do it right away'' lol.... both Gilbert and Norm are the most corageous comedians I've ever seen... didn't even know they were sick
Any chance I get I'll go on TH-cam and I'll watch Gilbert Gottfried read 50 Shades of Grey in that majestic voice of his.

a legend gone too soon.
Gilbert is truly one of a kind! His humor is the guiltiest pleasure of all!
I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Gottfried's house just to hear his real voice.

I find his voice soothing. I love Iago.

I love his rendition of the aristocrats.
Still the best one I've ever heard
Without a doubt the best one as far as I'm concerned. "And OH, that sweat!"
Captain 'Winkle' I thought it was based on an actual event at your house.

I've never seen Colbert so afraid of his guest
cringe worthy Colbert
That's not fear; it's awe.
These new shitty hosts can't handle Gilbert.
It’s fear. His audience doesn’t like actual comedy
It’s because Gottfried has long had a reputation as “the comedian’s comedian.” It’s for good reason.
Gilbert cracks himself up.
I love watching him get a kick out of himself xD
He also is very appreciative of other people's attempts at humor.
Colbert was too terrified to enjoy Gilbert lol

People say they want Morgan Freeman to narrate their lives. Give me Gilbert Gottfried any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
I’ve had him mentally narrating my life the last couple of days. It’s somehow helping me process his death
He has the perfect voice for a GTA character
Right when he said yellow, i was thinking "oh no"
You forgot Cyberchase. His best character is Digit.
This was far too short. Gilbert is a International Treasure...
Anyone here who loves Gilbert, please watch his segment on Norm Macdonald live talking about Catherine Zeta Jones. Hilarious
Very Funny Guy!!! RIP!
Gilbert Gottfried is The Voice Of Iago from Aladdin 1992 😆
The best part of this is just looking at Stephen going "How much of this interview will I legally be able to put on the air?"
