You’re in my hometown. Its not the worst place ever, but it didnt use to be like this at all. Its so cramped now, no cheap apartments, homeless population growing with no where to go, petty crime up so more boarded up places and graffiti. At least theres a bit of charm about the town, I love this place and wont be leaving for a while

PDX is so changed since I moved north to Washington state in 2013. I still visit, but mostly out on the west side. Downtown has changed drastically. I was out on SE Powell visiting and saw some tents up on the sidewalk.

It has tent communities, but it's considered safe land. Such a neat atmosphere until you get to that "one side of town". Stay safe! Much love!

I’m close to pulling the trigger on the MK4 Talaria but am concerned about being hassled riding in Portland. What is your experience? I would ride it very respectful on the public streets , but still think I’m going to get pulled over

Sick! Crazy ride on a crazy day. Couldn't ask for more. You got your homeless people, a happy trigger zombie, a nice park 🏞️ , a crazy train on fire 🔥 and nice ride on the streets against all odds. A new bumper with all the "works". What is missing? 🤔

Yeah if that was the worst of Portland, Seattle is wayyy worse. There are areas you simply don't go to unless you are looking to get in a fight or shot at. Even the ok areas can be dicy. A couple months ago, a block away from where we went to see Hamilton in Seattle, a guy waiting at a light in his car was shot and killed by some random dude, most likely he looked like someone who was on the hit list. That was the week after we were there.
If I remember right the reason there is such an issue with homeless and drug addicts is because of the 2008 recession, people got laid off and lost their homes and a percentage turned to illegal drugs as an outlet. Because people in Portland and Seattle were more willing to give money to panhandlers, many moved to take advantage of that. Now we have issues with people pretending to be homeless for the money, at this point the best way to support those seeking help with food and shelter is to donate to food banks and rehabilitation centers.

Yes I live in Beaverton the area where the train caught on fire and I went to Seattle and it seemed the homelessness is pretty bad compared. It has its areas but it’s not as bad

Around 40 miles!
Yes downtown has its bad spots but the majority of people say these things either havent been downtown in years (used to be WAYYY worse) or havent been downtown at all.

So sad to see. I was born and raised in the 503. It used to be such an amazing place. Now it’s kind of sickening. The other side of the river is way worse for tents and homeless. You should have crossed over and gone to burnside. The transit system is amazing.

That "what-the-hell-is-that" bike was a large cargo bike with ZERO electric assistance. Balls required. I live in Portland, there are good parts but we keep them secret. 🧐🤯😵💫🥳🥸
