I remember I stayed up very late US time Aa this concert was on live in the middle of the might many years ago now. The audience was reserved yes but can you imagine never really hearing these kinds of pieces ever delivered before. And many have dealt with a lifetime of propaganda, maybe some mixed emotions about the concert in general. And possibly not wanting to show too much enthusiasm as to not want others to think you love Americans/ the music too much. I recommend the full concert as they also played this beautiful Korean song that they cried was mixed by. And by the end of the concert the audience was very happy and with lots of cheering. It was very moving and emotional to watch
Violinists and overall and orchestra tends to have a straight face whenever playing, they do it so that way they can focus on the notes and especially the long articulations, 8ths and 16th notes. I know that because I’ve been a violinist for over eight years.
I believe this was done deliberately. It may have been by the maestro's/conductor's choosing or the orchestra following his orchestration. Could be that he wanted the opening to ritardando, producing a more majestic form.
How can you not like it ? This is joyful.
Rest in peace, Lorin Maazel.
They are concentrating. Close your eyes and you will hear the joy.
The audience members I saw had their eyes open.
Lorin Maazel !! A genius. Masterful director. Thanks for sharing this beauty.😊🌹

this was used in a film starring JOHN MILLS called ITS GREAT TO BE YOUNG
At 0:42 we see and hear the drummer using only his one hand to produce the rapid fire pattern .Amazing

daily north korea
They're probably always like that, but I would have the same expression for this piece, just not for the same reason; hyper focused and in awe.

Oh, it was because some of those people are there to observe and rate their playing.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Those dudes from 2:03 to 2:10 look like they'd rather be home watching the finance channel. Loosen up and enjoy!
That’s exactly what they’d rather be doing
Why does the tempo slow after about the 4th bar (about 16 seconds)? Did they really do this or is it a processing/production artifact?

These guys are playing for their lives
I feel the tempo in this finale a little too fast, so the ending stopped too rush without essence remained.
Yep, Karajan did this better
Only real OGs got introduced to this song from watching Little Einsteins, WHO'S WITH ME?!
damn, not a single smile in the audience
