About SXSW:
Started in 1987, South by Southwest (SXSW) is a set of film, interactive, and music festivals and conferences that take place early each year in mid-March in Austin, Texas. SXSW’s original goal was to create an event that would act as a tool for creative people and the companies they work with to develop their careers, to bring together people from a wide area to meet and share ideas. That continues to be the goal today whether it is music, film or interactive technologies.

Ken Burns is so honest and objective, how does he do that and his documentary, are off the chain.
The real enemy is not race but class. - Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
I am just finding this now and am SO thankful. As of recent, I've learned a great deal from the collaborations that Henry Louis Gates, Jr. has contributed to especially with Ken Burns.
I never knew about the contribution of Charles Black and his encounter with Louis Armstrong in the town I live in. I love seeing genius in people of color and look forward to the uplift with our new President and Vice President of the United States!
Beautiful conversation.
And yet in July 2024---8 years afte the posting of this clip, things have not realize the wonderful thoughts of these 3 great thinkers.
LOUIS GATES, YOU'RE A GREAT MAN
Why is it hard to think of ourselves as one human race? So simple? We all have red blood running through our veins.
Excellent interviews!

I stupidly lost my password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.

Thurgood Marshall felt the same way....
thankyou.
Much of US political discourse is addressed to and direçted at the Middle Class.
Imagine if you are NOT and have NO HOPE of being Middle Class.
When will the “conversation on race” finally end?
When America stop being so obsessed with it..
When will a fulsome conversation about race in America -- particularly one with genuine reconciliation as a goal -- begin?
To repair (reconcile) one's relationship with our fellow man or God, two components must accompany apology: acceptance of responsibility & genuine contrition. Merely saying "I'm sorry" is insufficient in relationships both holy or mortal. South Africa's "Truth & Reconciliation" program could serve as an adaptable model for America.
Never! Read "The Color of Law" by Richard Rothstein, 2017, A Forgotten History of How our Government Segregated America.
When there's enough economic equality and enough political representation and a non-disproportionate prison population and the statistics show that cops don't go after non-white people more often?
I think that's when it ends.
Me thinks that Mr. Gates might need to work a little bit on the content of his character.

Henry Louis Gates, I heard PBS FIRED the Prof. I want to know why?
Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is currently still (February 2020) producing for PBS, including his popular series "Who Do You Think You Are?"
He didn’t get fired but I believe he hide Ben Affleck and I think another famous person who didn’t want their ancestors( slave master ) to get out to the public. I think he got suspended because he got caught. He’s back with PBS.

@@stephdrake2521 , Ben Affleck didn't want his Slave Owner Ancestry to be aired and asked to have those portions removed or he wanted to back out. So, the start of the following season of "Finding Your Roots" was postponed for a few months while the accusations were being investigated. Affleck eventually said he was wrong and that he was "sorry". Dr. Gates was never suspended nor was his show cancelled. Ben Affleck just made a complete ASS of himself!

OH YEAH, AND MR. BURNS FROM THE SIMPSONS IS GOOD TO... kidding
