@@_mshsrnHmmm how do I say this nicely? I believe we all gotta work hand in hand, however, as a new RN of only 7 years, I'm appalled at the bullsh!tification of nursing. There's very limited direct patient care, and my day is bogged down with clerical nonsense and computer clicking that creates unnecessary time crunches. The future of nursing should be back to the bedside. That said I think informatics should be there to make the direct patient care easier; but I don't find this to be the case. I would like to enter an informatics training program that speaks to my values as a nurse, but let's please all remember, how important direct patient care is. I often laugh to myself when I see a nurse who's been a nurse for one year, run to do informatics. Especially since I've been told by management that informatics is saturated. What she says @15:49 👍🏾
Yea, I love this. You’re right. Nursing Informatics is a space where nurses with a significant number of years of experience at the bedside is needed. Someone with at least a quality amount of experience where they would consider themselves at least a “subject matter expert” in the clinical space that they are looking to create influence in through technology. As someone who really wanted to be “in the business of healthcare” ….Aaand not necessarily was convinced to be a nurse, I hope that maybe I can speak to an audience of people who chose nursing and feel it’s the wrong profession for them and might be considering something more innovative (healthcare informatics) or! Nurses with a number of years of clinical experience considering Nursing Informatics or Healthcare Informatics or! Someone like you- who sees first hand why nurses NEED to be in this space (what she says at 15:49)
I'm a black woman (35y) software engineer at a major hospital. I would like to transition into informatics. I'm thinking of getting my lvn to pursue. Any advice on a direction and what role would I qualify for?
You know, it’s often one of those things that you find your way there or through. I was the same. I later realized that the things I thought about or was more interested in while working in the hospital and clinics could be rooted in Nursing or Healthcare Informatics. Those things were how we could and what we could change to make what we were doing better. And just being a part of those plans and conversations. Generally, you could choose to be very techy with health software/equipment or you can lean into care coordination/leadership and workflows. It takes time and experience to recognize what this looks like where you currently are in your position.
I just stambled upon your channel and immediately subscribed. Very nice information.
I'm so glad you find it valuable!
I truly appreciate you sharing your journey
Excellent information, this is the future of nursing, thank you for sharing!
No it isn't.
What’s your perspective?

What if you don’t know what area you want to focus on in informatics? I’m interested but not sure.

Thank you for all the info! Would it be smoother to get into this field as a BSN or LPN?
Hi! To get in Nursing Informatics - Yes! To get into healthcare informatics, your healthcare profession would still make the transition do-able.
