Anders gives us an introductory lesson of how to get great tone with your open chords. Originally, amps didn't have both master volume and gain; they only had a volume control, and when you turned it up really loud it would distort. But that's inconvenient, so people started using a master volume to compensate, or used overdrive pedals to simulate the sound of the amp breaking up.
It's important to note that the more of this overdrive effect you add, the more your voicings will start sounding cluttered and messy. This means you'll have to adapt your voicings to work well with this tone, and that's what he'll show you in the following lessons.

Try pressing the overdrive button. Have volume on around 2 or 3 and gain at 10. Have bass and treble at 6

I would recomend the Fender frontman 10g amplifier, that is the one I have and it sounds pretty cool and also has the options

Without seeing your setup, try simply turning the volume up a bit more. Sometimes you need some juice to get the guitar to wail!
For everyone who has the same problem just max volume on the guitar. And thats it.

im a beginner and i just received my first fender strat today. i have a rock jam branded amp so it only contained volume, tone and gain. how can i change to tone of my electric guitar to a more aggressive and rocky-like sound?😭 i’ve spent a whole hour messing about with the amp and i have no idea how to do this

Try increasing the gain. And switch your pick up switch to the bridge for a more aggressive tone

Just got an amp and electric guitar from my grandparents. It was my uncles. Idk what brand of guitar it is but the amp is a “reavey” and it says “rage 158” I can’t figure out how to do it as it’s from the 90s-2000s
It has knobs for volume pre post low mid and high
The pre dial would be a gain (or a drive) and post would be your level.
If you have a cheap amp just plug in your headphones it sounds better instantly

Mine doesn't sound close to that, idk how to describe it, but it sounds like a normal acoustic guitar. The gain just makes it louder, and it's more just like earrape. I hate it and I can't fix it, it makes me loose motivation to play

So it's an acoustic guitar? You'll need an electric guitar to dial in the tones between your guitar and amp to get proper rock tones.
Is it even possible on Harley Benton ST-20 and amplifier by... max music?
Idk it's written on the ampplifier. On the amp i can change:
Gain, Volume, Treble, Middle and Bass. I can also Boost.
But the sound is not Rocky enough!
I had the same amp and I tried nearly everything but it just wouldn't Sound like that I'd recommend buying a better amp if you can afford it
@pineapple I think I'll just buy an adapter to connect the guitar to my PC for now. Yeah, I know it's not very high quality, but for now that's good enough. On the PC I'm sure I can get a rock tone.

My amp only has volume, tone, and drive. what does that mean
Volume is volume, tone will be for how bright/muddy the sound will be, and drive will make the amp overdriven and 'crunchy.' Play with the settings to really learn what your amp can do!
What plays a bigger role in making the guitar sound like this is it the guitar or the amp? If i have a cheaper guitar but a good amp will i be able to achieve this? And if i jave a great guitar bs cheap amp will that stop it from sounding good?
1.Cheap guitar + good amp = toy guitar
2. Good guitar with good pick up + any amp = awesome sound.

I have a kids gituar master play and a amp master play that only has treble bass volume and drive, And It sounds like an aucostic one, Idk if it’s because I need to tune up my gituar because I just got it and I’m not sure what I’m doing. This is difficult to diagnose as the issue could be with the guitar itself or the amp. Why kind of troubleshooting have you done from your end?
