I appreciate it man. The BITE model is a really useful tool, and after looking at all the abject nonsense throughout the crypto community I thought it was a worthwhile connection/discussion
Didn't realize there was an actual ape gallery @_@ ahhh You know that feeling when you watch, like, Ben Stiller's character get embarrassed in a family comedy? Real strong feeling.
That gallery was part of some specific crypto event, I don't believe there's a standalone bored ape/NFT gallery anywhere out there (for obvious reasons)
The things that trip me out the most about the crypto community is they seem completely oblivious to physical precious metals as an alternative to fiat and the fact people are celebrating institutions like Black Rock entering their game or Saylor wanting to be the crypto reserve bank. 🤯 The plot has clearly been lost... Thanks for this video, I'd share it with my people but thankfully no one I know is really into cryptocurrency
I am not a gold bug or specie fan by any metric, but they are decent stores of wealth and otherwise have practical material uses. Also the fact this "decentralized" platform is increasingly being controlled and hoarded by those with preexisting wealth (either early investors in crypto or old money firms) just dismantles any notion of it being meaningfully decentralized. Glad you liked the vid (and that your associates aren't really on the crypto bandwagon), feel free to share it either way so they can laugh at this joke of a technology.
@@CiggySnake Ah, glad you brought up the actual technology... It's my basic understanding that quantum computing could make Bitcoin/Block chain obsolete overnight. Might be a good time to look into some precious metals though ... 🥇 Has been breaking all time highs constantly this year and 🥈 recently broke a 12 year high.
As I understand it, quantum computing would essentially mine/process Crypto requests, making them next to instantaneous, either crashing the currency or pegging its price. Quantum computing would make append only blockchains run dramatically faster, which would solve one of the major issues with blockchain technology. Not 100% sure on these, definitely look into it, but either way quantum technology would dramatically change crypto. I'll look into precious metals then. I've heard mixed things about them, but if they're outperforming the market, they're valid as far as I'm concerned
Yes! I realized this as early as 2013, when a formerly good college friend of mine out of nowhere lost it because of an ill phrased joke I made about Bitcoin! He started lashing out at me on Facebook, without actually revealing to me what bothered him, only dropping hints. I even apologized to him and he said he accepted it and it was ok. But then I noticed his overall behavior was never the same as it was before that moment. He used to be the chillest guy ever, nothing seemed to bother him. But now he was making cynical sarcastic insults directed at me every single day because I guess he took my Bitcoin joke as blasphemy and once even said "WE forvive but WE never forget". "WE"??? He was already behaving like he was part of some larger group, in 2013. But there was no group at the time! It eventually was so burdensome, i had to cut him out of my life forever. This all happened within 2 months or so. Creepy! Fuck Bitcoin and fuck all Crypto!
@JaYohanes I have no contact with him. I assume he's alive, that he's not in prison, and that he probably is rich, at least one paper. And that's fine, I was never against him getting rich, I supported the concept of bitcoin. He just displayed signs of cult like behavior. Maybe he had a mental problem and crypto is not to blame. I will never know why he behaved that way, and frankly I don't care at this point.
Honestly Seth Green could have just used his crappy apes in his TV show, because purchasing or stealing NFTs doesn't transfer copyright, if there was any copyright to begin with for these AI-generated images.
Yeah pretty much. It's a copyright system that basically isn't enforced for works that nobody likes to begin with. If you look at any of these crypto displays or art galleries, it's literally just a dick measuring contest for whoever's collected the most unappealing pieces of art.
@@CiggySnake I mean, it's not just that there is an unenforced system, it's that there might not be any copyright at all. Check out LegalEagle's video 'NFTs Are Legally Problematic ft. Steve Mould & Coffeezilla'.
I normally tend to not comment on anything, but this video is very gud and I want the algorithm to notice it. Keep it up, cigar smoking snake, your stuff is good.
Just came across your channel thanks to Mildred on thought slime and this video is particularly interesting for me. All through it I couldn't help but think how much of the BITE model actually applies to neoliberal capitalism itself, not just crypto. It's something I'll have to be considering further over the next couple days. Hope all is going well for you and look forward to new content from you!
Glad you came and glad you enjoyed the vid. Interesting connection, I can definitely see the similarities. The most ardent and unironic defenders of capitalism always treat any criticism of their system as nigh heretical, any alternative to capitalism presented is immediately shut down and they chant the phrase "Soviet union, Cuba, Venezuela," it checks out.
@CiggySnake I agree with a lot of what you said. Just two questions: 1. Do you see a difference between "crypto" and bitcoin? Or do you think they fall into the same bucket and have the same fundamental issues? 2. Do you think the current fiat system with central banking is working for everyone now and will continue working into the future? (Key word, everyone)
And just to be clear: definitely not hating on your take and I like your videos....genuinely curious on your perspective on those two questions. Keep making content! 👍
Crypto expert here; Bitcoin is basically noone should be able to run a bank. Most crypto is anyone should. Alt or shitcoins come and go, are highly speculatgige but also autonomous. Anyone can make a shitcoin and it's validity is based on fads. Bitcoin is an encrypted line of cold that takes a lot of effort to mine and is super self contained. Blackrock and JP Morgan are buying Bitcoin because if they don't, it'll become it's own separate influence. Any crypto can but not as much so as mere propaganda can defuse a shitcoin Bitcoin is more gatekept too. It's like 60k right now. I would not recommend buying a Bitcoin when you got bills to pay and shit. If it becomes a common practice fine. But it's pretty much set and done investing wise. Shitcoins are much more doable but a real gamble
Crypto communities often exhibit intense loyalty, resembling cult-like behavior. Bitcoin enthusiasts, known as "Bitcoin maxis," show fanatical support, while Ethereum supporters are similarly dedicated but more pragmatic. The XRP community, despite criticism, remained steadfast and recently saw gains. This devotion is evident in crypto groups, where selling is frowned upon. Such fervor reflects crypto's pyramid-like structure, where true believers hold on. Interestingly, this cult-like mindset extends beyond crypto, as seen in the praise for Steam as the best video game store and everything else as inferior, mainly jsut a time bias.
Largely agree. I actually have a video on Steam and why it's so well regarded. Showing favoritism or having a high opinion towards Steam is pretty valid imo, given the significant issues surrounding its competitors and Steam's many features, along with its frequent sales. I don't think Steam is perfect fwiw, the 70/30 split between devs/Steam is a bit high for example.
The dollar isnt that great either, trillions getting printed which causes endless inflation. Longterm crypto might be pretty solid. All the rugpulls, scammers are a problem though for sure.
The average person hasn't really lost money in crypto if you check most wallets they have less than 100 dollars in crypto. I feel like you are exaggerating the losses a little. Usually the world is a lot more boring than news headlines.
Would be good if one can share their opinion without prejudice, be it in favor or against crypto. Also, it's kinda... two -faced to use the very same mental strategy you are dissing in your video. "More than XX % of bitcoiners in the red"? That's so out of context. As for information control? Obviously you are communicating with crypto bros only, and fanboys. The smart people in the space are just computer scientist or entrepreneurs who work to build something. In order to do that, they look for problems, they dont hide them. And the best, biggest channels on TH-cam about crypto, always mention the risk of crypto and especially altcoins. They also mention - it's not a get rich quick scheme. Just the fact - holding Bitcoin for over 2-3 years has always led people to profit...in the short 13year history.
Also a lot of your "cult" thesis arguments can be applied to most of society - say nationalism... yeah you are defensive of your country's good name, you are in a cult... doesn't make sense. Btw, the only reason I am defensive of crypto here is that your video is generalising way too much. It's a cult - but for the people against crypto.
Yeah I think just with most things there's bad apples and scams but plenty of legitimate things in crypto. I think it's real convenient how people people are talking trash about both crypto and stock market as soon as we go into a bear market. But both markets will go back up in time. I do think NFTs are dumb as hell but some good cryptos out there. Just have to weed out the bad ones
How did he "use the very same mental strategy he is dissing?" He admitted that some people (very, very few) have made large amounts of wealth in crypto, but also (rightfully) pointed out that the vast majority of people lose money. (It's a negative sum Ponzi scheme, after all. By definition there are many more losers than winners.) That is _completely_ different from what the crypto community does, sweeping the stories of loss under the rugs so that only the success stories shine. And I absolutely cannot stand the "well if crypto is X, then everything else is X too" arguments. If crypto is a cult, everything is a cult... If crypto is a Ponzi scheme, everything is a Ponzi scheme... That tactic gets so old. If you can't raise crypto up, tear everything else down around it.
THANK YOU for making this and especially for including the BITE model. It's disturbing this has not been covered yet.
