- An overall slow trip for us on REAPER. We have been so spoiled this season that 3 big yellowfin tuna is almost a dissapointment. I'm also very surprised we did not land a sword overnight.
But the whale and mammal show was just amazing. And we had so much fun. Lots of laughs, ball breaking, nature watching. Just no complaints. It's not always about killing fish.

Awesome Videos, love watching. The Penn Carnage Jigging rods you are fighting that tuna, do you use that to troll as well? I thought I remember you using them in one of your striper mojo videos. I'm looking for two rods that would be versatile to pair with penn fathoms. Hope you guys keep catching!!
Yes we also use them for striper trolling.

Hey Dan. I have a video from Oct 6 where we had 14 yellowfin. And I think October 9 when we had 6 more. Then just about 10 days ago when we had 6 YF and 5 BF. So plenty more vids coming!

Thanks so much Tyler. We average 22-25 knots depending on load and sea conditions. 26 knots occasionally on way home with less fuel.

Great job Capt Chris. Hey quick ? When you are at the middle grounds were you anchored or drifting when the whales were around? Trying to learn. Thx
Thanks for watching Brian. This day was all about short drifts right on top of the whales. The last time fishing midshore we had hard East winds that were not forecasted. Drifting would have been 2 plus knots. In those situations I'll anchor and it paid off.
Usually if it's real calm we will drift. If the fish are spread out we will drift. If i'm prospecting a spot I'll drift
When it's rough or drift is 1 knot or greater I'll anchor. If the fish are held up tight on a small lump I'll anchor.
If I know the fish have been in a small area even if it's calm I like to anchor. It makes for a more relaxing day for me honestly.

When you do these overnighters do you leave both engines running the whole time?
no we have the 7.5 Kw generator running. That powers anything that runs on AC power and then charges the batteries so they don't drain with DC stuff running.
