Battery Change for Casio MTD-1079

  • The Casio MTD-1079 Super Illuminator uses two batteries. One is only for the clock part of the watch and the other is only for the backlight part of the watch. In this video I show you how to open the back of the watch and remove the backlight device so that you can reach the battery of the clock portion of the watch. I decided not to replace the battery in the backlight device because I rarely use it and I figured it would last through another battery change. But, to be clear, Casio recommends that whenever you change one battery you should also replace the other, whether it needs to be replaced or not. This watch uses module 5373 from Casio.

You had a great review about this watch about 1 year ago.
    Thanks

The button thing applies to the g shock squares (and many other g shocks too). I've had to gently prod the metal bits to get the module back in many times too! Thanks for the great video Greg

That's the standard procedure. You should ensure that the pushers are pushed out before you put the module back in.

Thank you for the clear video, Greg. The movement battery on my 1079 died today. I found your video, bought a new battery (ended up with an Energizer 371), and it's back up and running.

I always put a little silicone lubricant on the o-ring before putting the back on.

Great video! If I don't know the watch requires 2 different types of batteries that are stacked one above the other, I would change only the obvious one (this for the light), and then will scratch my head why the light works, but the watch doesn't tick. Very useful. Thank you!

This is why I prefer smartwatches and mechanical ones too ! Casio watches sucks!

@@sorinichim4737 Nothing against Casio. (Depending on the model of course.) But I will never waste my money on a smart "watch".

I replaced my timepiece battery 371 and the second hand remained dead. I removed battery 371 and upon close inspection, i discovered that when i slid the battery in its mounting place, i accidentally pushed the negative (bottom) lead sideways. I took a micro screwdriver and bent the lead flat down and made sure it remained down so it would make contact to the bottom (negative) side of the battery. The second hand started moving again.

Thank you, Greg, for the demo. On Amazon the reduced price for this model is exactly 100 EUR. What did you pay for it at Walmart? I wish you a nice weekend.

His review of this one was a year ago. I just checked it and in the summer of 2020, the list price was about $80 (USD) and he paid $21 on clearance. Fantastic deal!

Sorry to tell you, but I got one for $11.00. They seem to be reducing or eliminating the jewelry counter and selling off a lot of Casio watches.
