Christopher Plummer is probably more well known for his stage work, but has been in a ton of great movies including Knives Out most recently, but also, The Insider, Malcolm X, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and most famously, The Sound of Music as Captain von Trapp. He's a true OG.

You know what, whenever I think of Christopher Plummer, the first role that comes to mind is that of Commodus in "Fall Of The Roman Empire". His portrayal is a bit different than Joaquin Phoenix's. Similar, but different. 🤣
For me, he will always be General Chang in _Star Trek_ and Rudyard Kipling in _The Man Who Would Be King._
I only knew him from sound of music and Malcolm x
Inside Man was one of the last movies I ever watched with my Dad and we were both OVERJOYED by the ending. We were laughing and high-fiving and loved that everybody more or less won in the end. It was glorious! He was the biggest Denzel fan! We both believed he could do no wrong.
So a few cases of assualt and battery are basically cases of people winning? The taking of hostages is also winning? Not victimisation but winning? Threatening inocent people with death by pointing guns at them. That's not criminal or victimisation, but just winning basically? LOL-It maybe every day in Hollywood. But what happens in H
ollywood is not the norm as seen by many outside of Hollywood. Anyway. It's sold as entertainment so have a nice day. :)

Heck yes to both movies. "A Fish Called Wanda" is hilarious. "Sneakers" is so underrated and has an all-star ensemble cast one of my top 10 heist movies for sure.
A Fish Called Wanda is fantastic and utterly hilarious. My second favourite comedy after Life of Brian.
I still enjoy Clive Owen's work to this day. He was all over the place around the time this film came out. From King Arthur, Closer, Sin City, Inside Man, Derailed, Children of Men, he's always a delight.
Derailed is really good, not particularly critically acclaimed, but I've seen it a few times and always enjoy it.
Love Clive Owen. I highly recommend "The International", which seems to have gone totally under the radar. It's not a heist movie per se, but it is about investigating evil deeds committed by global banks. And it has one of the best shootout scenes in cinema history.

I’m so glad you enjoyed this movie. One of my favourites. Another great Denzel movie is “Deja Vu” (from 2006) directed by the late great Tony Scott.

That’s a good one for you two to enjoy. A good slow burn of a movie with a solid cast. I always get a good kick out of the scene where Dalton is taken aback by the violent video game, and tells the kid, “Finish your slice and I’ll take you back to your father. I got to talk to him about this game.”
Clive Owen is the film's anti-hero, not antagonist. The movie's real villain is Christopher Plummer's character.
"Anyone else here smarter than me?" - always LOVED this line; in addition to the fact that this doesn't feel like a conventional heist movie, also really like that this has such a great cast of characters: Denzel doing his thing, Foster on hand to influence the power play, Chiwetel, Dafoe, Christopher Plummer, and of course Clive Owen who brings much to the table despite wearing a mask much of the time
You should watch-21 BRIDGES-starring Chadwick Boseman ( I like this film even more than the Black Panther movies ) I watch every 2 months,that's how much I like this film. Sleepless-starring Jamie Fox is another action/cop-flick that's very nice also.

THE TOWN is an Oscar nominated heist movie that is a must watch. So is DEN OF THIEVES (minus the oscars), another great recent heist movie with a great cast, incredibly underrated.
If you like those two I would recommend Takers (2010).
If we're talking heist movies I don't know how Heat isn't at the top of the list
@@Jon.A.Scholt It is on par with The Town but I prefer the big reveals in Inside Man and The Usual Suspects. But to me The Usual Suspects is more of a mystery thriller, which makes Heat Top 3 best heist movies.
The 2001 David Mamet film "Heist" is another great one.
The voice of Elastigirl is actually Holly Hunter. Also played Penny (Clooney's wife in O Brother Where Art Thou?)

Denzel's partner is Chiwetel Ejiofor, who played The Operative in Serenity (Firefly), and the lead robber is Clive Owen. They were both also in a film called Children of Men, one of the great films that will leave you breathless.

I thought Sneakers was about corporate espionage. I saw it when it first came out, but I don't remember there being a heist.

Sneakers is a fantastic film, and it has only gotten more relevant over time. A wonderful film with a brilliant ensemble cast, too. I first saw it when we rented it from the video store in the early 90s!
What a nice surprise! Inside Man is one of my favorite movies of all time. It is so well crafted. Everything about the movie is good from the acting, directing, writing, filming. The leader of the thief is *Clive Owen* who around that time was really the "it" actor of the moment and he was appearing in everything. Good movies from him at the time were "Children of Men, Derailed(with Jennifer Anniston), Closer(with Natalie Portman), Duplicity(another heist movie with Julia Roberts) and also The International, a spy movie. He was also great in Sin City.
BTW the old actor is famous Canadian actor Christopher Plummer who was in Sound of Music as General Von Trap.
So the first thing that came into my head was is this a rewrite of Dog Day Afternoon then I found this The film explicitly pays homage to Dog Day Afternoon (1975), directed by New York filmmaker Sidney Lumet and starring Al Pacino in another memorable performance. Two of the supporting actors in Inside Man also performed in Dog Day Afternoon. In Inside Man, when Clive Owen says, “Can we order pizza?” the pizza box says “Sal’s Famous Pizzeria.” And another thing for you: We found the actor who delivered the pizza in Dog Day Afternoon! The pizza guy from Dog Day who says, “I’m a f-cking star!” I had no idea that’s the same guy! Yeah! He delivered the pizza in Inside Man too. He delivered pizza to two hostage situations in two banks! Spike Lee said this is not the first time I’ve done something like this. Peace out.
“Sal’s Famous” in this movie is also a reference to the pizza joint where “Do the Right Thing” takes place. The boxes have the same design.
The lady who refuses to take her clothes off in Inside Man plays one of the bank clerks in Dog Day Afternoon.
If you're looking for another Clive Owen movie you should check out Children Of Men. One of the best movies made so far this century, as far as I am concerned. A master class in tension.

Jodie Foster's success came with "Taxi Driver", where she played alongside Robert de Niro and Cybill Shepherd. Other movies: Panic Room (with a very young Kirsten Stewart), Anna & the King, Little Man Tate. The actress voicing Elastic Girl is Holly Hunter (The Piano, Thirteen, The Firm).
I'm always amused that the movie she's best known for is seldomly given when listing her movies. The Silence of the Lambs.

Love this film. I've always been a fan of Clive Owen, and even though you barely see him in this movie, his smooth, relaxing voice is always there.
Interesting fact the person who made the eiffel tower also made the framing for the inside of the statue of liberty so they are connected somewhat. Both French made as well

I know it came last in the poll but I think you two would love The Thomas Crown Affair. Great vibe, soundtrack, cat & mouse dynamic, and some steamy romance with great chemistry between the leads. I mean, a heist romance seems right up your alley!

Fun fact: The cop who brings the pizzas is the same actor who played the pizza delivery guy in Dog Day Afternoon. Also the lady that wouldn't strip was one of the hostages in Dog Day Afternoon. The director, Spike Lee, is a huge fan of Dog Day Afternoon which influenced some of his direction in this film.

Just registering my love for Sneakers with the rest of us. A truly fantastic film with maybe the best cast of the 90's.
I've watched both films many times, but I didn't realize (and confirm) until just now that Miriam Douglas (the curly-haired bank teller from "Dog Day Afternoon") is also the old woman who refuses to take her clothes off in "Inside Man." I'm sure that was intentional on Spike Lee and the producers' parts, but I had no idea until I looked at her here and was like "wait a minute ..."
If it makes you feel better, Gustave Eiffel also designed the structure of the Statue of Liberty, which was a gift from France.

All heist movies are good :) You can't go wrong with either of your next two options. Kevin Kline turned in an award-winning performance in A Fish Called Wanda. Robert Redford leads a great cast in Sneakers.
You might be remembering Jodie Foster from her part in the movie Maverick. I think you both watched it. It had James Garner, Mel Gibson and her in a very cute western featuring a high stakes poker tournament.
If you like heist movies involving in depth planning and long cons, you should watch "The Sting," which won Best Picture in 1973. It stars Paul Newman and Robert Redford, with Robert Shaw (Quint from "Jaws") and Charles Durning (Detective Sergeant Moretti from "Dog Day Afternoon"). You'll love it!
Christopher Plummer CC was a Canadian actor. His career spanned seven decades, gaining him recognition for his performances in film, stage, and television. He had an Oscar and, notably, was in The Sound of Music.
Heist movies are hard to pull off, and this one is so damn good! I also suggest Summer of Sam as a lesser known Spike Lee film.
Summer of Sam is wildly underrated. I enjoy it so much more than Zodiac.
Summer of Sam has good moments, but a lot of times, it felt like Spike was trying to out-Scorsese Scorsese.
The Bollywood music at the start is actually from a very famous Bollywood movie 'Dil Se' starring one of the most popular actors in the world,Shah Rukh Khan, also known as SRK. The song is called 'Chaiyya Chaiyya' which in a 'World's Top Ten' song poll conducted by BBC got 9th position. It's a highly popular and catchy song.

Christopher Plummer was Barron Trapp in The Sound of Music. He was the father of Keanu Reeves in The Lake House. He’s been in so many movies for over 50 years.
Denzel's partner is Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cassie, you know him as the sword-wielding Operative in 'Serenity', Solomon Northrup in '12 Years a Slave' or Mordo from the MCU. 'Inside Man' is one of my favorite films. I'm pleased to see it getting some love. Another good film starring both Chiwetel and Clive Owen (aka the Bank Robber) is 'Children of Men.' Just know as good as it is, it can be hard to watch.
For the record, Denzel Washington has never been in a bad movie. He's beyond legit.
As long as you don’t look at his career before 1988. “Carbon Copy,” where he plays George Segal’s long lost black son, is on Tubi and it’s wrong on just about every level. The Denzel/Russell Crowe 1995 sci-fi flick Virtuosity is also pretty bad.

This is one of my all time favourite films.
Clive Owen (Dalton Russell, AKA Mr. Bank Robber) is a very underrated actor. I have enjoyed everything of his that I've seen, and his involvement with this film is why I initially watched it. Typically speaking I hate heist films, but I really love this one.
As for the perfect plan,
There were five people involved. These were,
Dalton Russell. AKA Mr. Bank Robber. (Clive Owen).
Valerie Keepsake. AKA Stevie. (Kim Director).
Darius Peltz. AKA Steve-O. (James Ransome).
Kenneth Damerjian. AKA Steve. (Carlos Andrés Gómez).
Chaim, The older Jewish Gentleman. (Bernie Rachelle).
Russell had each of his people take turns posing as hostages. This was so that legitimate hostages would vouch for them once the police came in. When one was in with the hostages, Chaim would stand in as a guy in the background, maintaining the illusion that there were always four robbers. This is why they were always shuffling some hostages from room to room. This would let then swap in their people, and switch them out again.
If you pay attention during the fake execution there are four robbers and one hostage on the screen, meaning that all five of the robbers were involved in creating this illusion.
The reason for removing everyones clothes was so that any evidence that got on just the paintersuits. By manhandling the hostages during room transfers, this would cause transfer from one paintersuit to another of any evidence. There own clothes were in the beg with everyone elses clothes. Their phones were with everyone elses.
The hole was so that they could hook up water and power into Russell's hideout. As well as serve as a toilet for Russell, what goes in must come out. With the diamonds, and documents secured, Russell goes into hiding. His team then walks out the front door, along with the hostages. As each of his team members have been seen by several hostages and also can vouch for each other, they all now have alibis as hostages. Russell has the documents to ensure that Case will do all he can to protect him should he face a judge.
One of the interesting things about this film is that Frazier (Denzel Washington) spends have the film protesting that he's not corrupt, but tthen at the end keeps the diamond. This, plus the promotion, are all to ensure his silence, but from different parties. So, Frazier is corrupt. He may not have stolen the $140K that he was being investigated for, but he'll look the other way on this one.
Slipping the detective a diamond for an engagement ring was the cherry on top of this great movie . . .
Denzel Washington is a "sign of quality" for me. Every film he is in his acting knocks it out of the park.
Clive Owen. Successful, obviously. But super underrated. I never understood why, but at the very least, his role (and death scene) in "The Bourne Identity" was absolutely TERRIFYING. Such a monumentally talented gent. Too bad "actors" of today's generation aren't much like him or Oldman, or Washington, or... well... anyhow.
We have a few, Hardy, Pattinson, Chalmet. They bring 100% to any role they pick, there's others, but they came to mind.
Since you ladies are now huge Denzel Washington fans, I suggest checking out a film called John Q. Denzel gives a Oscar worthy performance in a film most people consider weak without his performance, and yes you'll need tissues for that movie !!! 😂

Sneakers! So excited for that one, it deserves more attention. Hidden gem, and a perfect script. The film knows its beats, and plays them well. Hint: NOT about shoes. Its about SNEAKING.

Fyi, there is a copy of the Eiffel Tower in Tokyo and in Las Vegas. There is also an exact copy of the Statue of Liberty in France (the country that gifted our Statue of Liberty to us).
Damn but Denzel is smooth. That cream suit and Panama hat with ribbon is sharp. I could never pull that look off in a million years.
If you guys like Denzel Washington, you must check out Training Day, the role for which he won an Oscar for and Man on Fire! Both phenomenal Denzel movies!
My favorite Clive Owen movie is The International. I imagine it as kind of a prequel or sequel to this movie, but the role of Denzel and Clive is switched when Denzel goes after the big banking boss.
Sleepers (1996) or The Danish Girl should be next. You and your sister will love them!
Sneakers is good but A Fish called Wanda is a must watch - so funny. I saw several parts of it being shot as the location they used was directly across from my office at the time.

A Fish Called Wanda is one of the funniest movies ever made EVER.
I don't know if you will see this, but you kept trying to place Christopher Plummer ( the older man who owned the bank and worked with the Nazis in his younger years). He played the father on the Sound of Music and more recently the older man in the original Knifes Out movie.
Jodie Foster was in so many movies beginning in her childhood. She has had an amazing career with so many worthy movies like Contact, Elysium, Flightplan, and Nim's Island (with Gerard Butler from the 300) plus so many more. Of course, also Silence of the Lambs
And yes, please enjoy a Fish Called Wanda and Sneakers. They are fun.
You really need to watch “Training Day “ with Denzel and Ethan Hawke, in my opinion, his best performance out of all his amazing performances.
Ethan Hawke is great actor too. He and Denzel are in very few bad movies
Denzel Washington was amazing in The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021) with Frances McDormand. Everything about that movie was great.

Denzel's partner you probably recognize from Serenity the follow up to the Firefly series, both Doctor Strange films, Love Actually, and he is also in another film with Denzel American Gangster which came out the year after this film.

YES!!!! It's about time you delved into A Spike Lee Joint! Next on the docket needs to be Do the Right Thing which is one of the best films of all time
One thing I'd like to mention, the background song from which this movie starts is actually a popular Hindi song (Originally, this song is from the Hindi movie Dil Se (1998), which was directed by Maniratnam) named Chaiyya Chaiyya, which was sung by a Punjabi singer named Sukhwinder Singh, under the direction of A.R.Rahman. I once read that, before making this movie, the director Spike Lee was teaching at a film school, that was when a student suggested him to watch Dil Se (From The Heart in English), as he watched that movie, he “simply really liked the song”, and used it as an opening song for this movie. Till this day, this song is hugely popular among the fans, also considered as a nostalgia among the millenials.

Can't believe The Thomas Crown Affair got completely shut out. It's the one Cassie and Carley would have loved the most. Either the original with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway or the remake with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. You can't go wrong with either one. Maybe do what you did with The Seven Samurai and it's remakes and watch both.

Hi Cassie, similar to my comment in the 'Dog Day Afternoon (DDA)' Reaction you did, take note of the older woman who would not take off her clothes (at first). She is the Teller in DDA who was twirling the Bank Robber's rifle and who sad 'That All There IS' when the low amount of money was in that bank.
Cassie, I watch movie reaction from many youtube providers and I want to compliment you on how you edit the movies for youtube. Some reactors will edit and not provide good continuity to the edited movie. Your edits(for youtube)keep important dialog/scenes so the viewer can still follow the plot easily. Sorry this is so long but kudos on your reactions!

Such a great underrated suspense movie. I loved the twist ending. I totally didn't see it coming the first time I watched this. Other underrated crime movies are "The Score" with Robert DeNiro and Edward Norton and "The Heist" with Gene Hackman and Danny DeVito. Both have a twist at the end.
Something we don’t realise at the time, but becomes obvious at the end, is when Dalton tells home, “I’ll walk out of here when I’m good and ready.”

There have been so many times I want to be in the room to say “oh that person was in this, or this person was in that” just so they know.
In case no one mentioned it Denzel's partner was the ultimate bad guy in Serenity. Mr Case was the Captain and father in Sound of Music.

A movie I think you two would enjoy is Volcano (1997). I'd also love to see you react to Armageddon (1998) if you've never seen it.

While I know you probably get a lot of recommendations, I hope this thank you will merit a bit more consideration. If you haven't already seen it, another outstanding masterclass suspense thriller is "Panic Room" starring Jodie Foster. You didn't mention it while Carly was trying to identify her, so I hope this one gets added at some point in the future. It's amazing and directed by David Fincher, who also filmed "Zodiac"

A Jodie Foster movie I think the two of you would love is...'Contact'...a beautiful film.

Cassie, you were more right than you might have known when you said "Eiffel Tower" when you meant "Statue of Liberty." Gustave Eiffel designed the tower that was named after him, of course, but he also designed the interior scaffolding for the Statue of Liberty. Extra points!

Favorite heist movie, ever. I don’t know if I missed you saying it, but the actor who plays Arthur Case also played the old man who died at the beginning of Knives Out.
