That shout from Tom at the end gave me chills! Insane how well he did, his form looked pretty much the same as everyone else, he just didn't slow down at all.
@@theworldsstrongestman With all due respect, the wait is the problem. Awesome sport, awesome event, terrible presentation. How many people saw the 2021 event compared to the OG 1977 version?
@@theworldsstrongestman When was it on TV? CBS sports cable network, right? It's a lot to ask people to get an expensive non-basic cable package for 1 event, shown, what, 6 months after it takes place? I understand you have to make money, I just wish it were easier to watch WSM in a timely way. It's not a problem exclusive to strongman, don't get me wrong - it's expensive and difficult for a lot of team sport fans to follow their favorite franchise as well. I'd pay a reasonable price to see WSM if it were somehow available, but I can't afford an expanded sports cable package. Sorry.
I like the way The World's Strongest Man's YT Channel put this non recap events, not just the highlighted ones so we can see every athletes progress. It made kinda raw and good material to see as we can feel the tension and the struggle of these athletes back there. Keep it up 😁
Tom Stoltman is an absolute titan. If he was born in the states, NFL scouts would salivate over his size and athleticism. He could be making millions in the NFL playing left or right tackle. Love watching him as a strongman though.
I think a lot of people seem to not understand that these guys are incredible athletes and not jus fat strong guys. Just about all of these guys are at least 6' tall, in fact most of them are well past this mark. With the exception of the static events (deadlift, squat, press, etc.) all of the events require them to exert strength, power and speed under a load. Foot speed, agility and basic quickness are requirements to do well. A lot of these events also are decently long anaerobic type efforts and combine that with these competitions having multiple events you will need to have solid conditioning. Get these guys to lose some of the excess body fat, most of these guys are 25%+ or even 30%+ body fat, and they'd be incredible.
@@oglocbaby520 Pretty much all of the top guys played one or several different sports in their youth. Brian Shaw and Hafthor played basket, Tom and Luke Stoltman played football(soccer), Mitchell Hooper did several different sports. You don’t reach this level without having a high level of general athleticism, pure strength in itself is not enough.
@@ofnair I don't think you are looking at it correctly. These guys would have been phenomenal at strongman regardless of whether or not they played sports as children or in their teens/early twenties. The trend you'll find with virtually all of these world level strongman athletes is that they are 6'+, often well over it, AND have the ability to put on a lot of muscle mass. The overwhelming majority of people do NOT have this combination of genetic traits. Just because you played basketball or soccer or whatever growing up does not necessarily make you athletic, that's a product of genetics. Granted, these guys definitely have to train to get to where they are, that's an obvious one. You are correct that just pure static strength type training is not enough, like if you all you did was squats and deadlifts and overhead presses does not mean you will win WSM. There is definitely a different type of strength required for the more dynamic events. Anyone who has ever done sled pulls or pushes knows that this is very different compared to just squatting. Loaded carries, such as the farmers walk, are a great example as well, they activate your core/abs, hips, etc. in a way you won't find with traditional gym lifts.
For sure that's not a big powerlifter who's gonna make that he would die XD . Strongmen have the best cardio for their size, and still are insanely strong.
tom is a fucking beast man.... seeing him grow over the years, and dominate almost everything with his brother luke right there beside him, unbelievable.... that shout at the end too, shivers.... STAY FKN SPICY LADS!!!!
Licis, Novikov & Mateusz were the closest to him on the wheel of pain at the Rogue's. All of which were missing here. But to be honest, I don't see any of them beating Tom on an event like this any time soon
As a fan, I love this. For some constructive criticism, it would have been a lot better if you had released these all a few months ago but it’s still appreciated!! :)
I'm sure they all pushed miles of sled training for this, but some things are just genetic. Tom's a strength/endurance monster. You wouldn't even have needed a timer to know he won.
This reminds me of all the little cutscenes Kratos from God of War has to go through to get through the storyline as do these great men man what a sight to see that train track redirecting under manpower
I really want to know what happened with Brian during this event. In all honesty it cost him this 5th title last year. I know on one of his WSM vlogs he said something to the effect of “I don’t think I could have trained/prepared any better for the turntable event.” And watching his training videos leading up to WSM I believe that 100%. But during the event his left leg started dragging like it wasn’t working properly, his arms weren’t locked out which was dispersing energy, and overall he just looked like he was running on fumes during the second half of the push. He looked exhausted and out of gas. I’m not sure what happened, but I’d love to know. I’m also sure he would give just about anything to have another chance at this event. He looked understandably disappointed when he was told his time.
Sometimes being the biggest has its drawbacks too. Brian isn't known for having the longest endurance, at least not anymore. He gasses out and he's just well...massive. Takes alot of energy to move that fast, especially with father time catching up and things not moving quite as well as they used to. Tom is coming into his prime, but coming THIS close just shows that Brian still has what it takes. If he was just seconds faster here, he would've had it.
@@rfjohns4452 he came in 2nd place so age hasn’t caught up with him at all. He didn’t utilize proper technique and just broke down spending so much energy
his angle, foot placement and start thrust were all off. Brain is one of the best truck/plane pullers out there so its not endurance or strength that was an issue. he did say post comp that if there was one event he would want back it is this one
I think 2022 is gonna be tasty you will have Licis and Mateusz Kieliszkowski back and possibly ready if injuries don't hit them, and Tom battling against them
Would have been more interesting to give them a time limit say 75 seconds and they keep going as far as they can. Something a little similar to conan circle
7 seconds faster than second place, insane. Big Tommy
That shout from Tom at the end gave me chills! Insane how well he did, his form looked pretty much the same as everyone else, he just didn't slow down at all.
He looked to be lower than many and had very fast but short steps, same as his brother. That plus his mass probably did it.
@@MellonVegan yeah the contrast between lukes super short and speedy steps to brian next almost dragging his feet is kinda funny

He surely has the Genetics with him absolutely like Haftthor

Brian: “I just want my time” 😂😂😂

No oxygen, Brian just wants his time. A true competitor.
Tom Stoltman is almost the same size as Brian Shaw , just many years younger. An excellent group of men.
Yeah, but if you watch him on stones, he's looking at an injury soon.

I love seeing Brian's wife cheering him on the whole way around. Very cool.
You can tell tom was fucking motoring with that because when he finished it carried on spinning
