Question for Ingrid Visser PLEASE? What does she think about Orcas “attacking”or “playing with boats and sinking many of them in the mediterranean or rather the Gilbralter Straight. I have been a scuba diver since 12, and am 43. I have watch every video of Dr. Visser regarding Orcas and agree with everything she has ever said, especially regarding culture, dialects, hunting strategies, passing knowledge down and training young Orcas. I ask this question for two reasons. One my life’s dreams is to swim with orcas and I would hop in the water anywhere in the world with Orcas but one place, around the Mediterranean. Which brings me to my second point that I made 10 years ago and which now seems to evident to me. In the mediterranean has smaller fishing vessels and a lot more people fishing in smaller boats where there is alot more closer human to Orca interaction that is negative. Unlike the huge fishing fleets far out to see around the world in other places having negative interactions with Orcas it isn’t comparable to the Med. From dynamite, to shooting at them, poisoning them, and various other negative interactions that are common in the Mediterranean Sea to include killing them. When i saw what fisherman were doing to Orcas in that area I said to myself immediately his is the only place I wouldn’t just hop in the water blindly with them It is there supreme intelligence which is why they don’t attack us because I believe they can deduce what would happen next. But it is precisely this point which I feel Orcas have become angry, or frustrated, or threatened to long by humans in that area and now are either acting out there frustration or trying to sink boats to which they see is there competition because again it is those smaller fishing vessels or boats that have fisherman very close to the water’s edge who do all kinds of things to keep Orcas away which huge fishing vessels don’t do and the humans on those ships are far higher above the waters edge. I mean this abuse was common 10 years ago on you tube, who knows how long and how bad that abuse has been in that area. Personally having this feeling 10 years ago and now seeing reports and videos regarding Orcas breaking off rudders, turning boats around, and or sinking boats all in the last 3 years I feel like this is revenge or trying to eliminate the treat of competition to them. Some other Orca Scientist in that area doesn’t believe any malicious intent and instead believes it just play and doesn’t believe it is revenge or purposeful attacks to sink the boats citing no Orcas have attacked people in the wild, and they haven’t learned that behavior. I think she is willfully ingnorant, or trying to prevent humans from becoming scared of possible malicious intent so humans start a war like they did with Great Whites man years ago killing a lot of sharks. Given the degree of abuse and negative treatment of Orcas by fisherman in that area, and is one actually knows about that abuse and for how long it has been going on I don’t see how anyone couldn’t think that these interactions are anything but play. I really want to know Dr. Visser’s thoughts on this and if she has heard about this and if so why she hasn’t commented. Please forward this question and comment to her? I believe drastic steps need to be taken immediately in that areas so that Or see don’t teach other Orcas and us humans that want to swim with them also don’t have to be afraid of this Orca pod may have learned a new behavior and then those Orcas migrated elsewhere that I might hop the water with them if given the chance.
How are orca monogamous if they stay with there mothers there whole life? I understand they leave the pod to mate so do the mate they choose return to there pod with them?

It's illegal in many places to approach or swim with Marine Mammals.
