That Renault Dauphine, my family had one way before my time, same color, back in the early 60s. They lived just East of Watkins Glen and dad decided it would be a great race car, so he gutted it, put a roll cage in it, and put the seats back in and would drive it to the track for race days. Mom wasn't too happy about that. She was less happy when he broke an axle shaft and had to have it cobbled together to get home from the track. It must have been not long after the race track was built. I think it was more of a "bird in the hand" situation, he couldn't afford to build a dedicated race car at that point in his life, so the family grocery getter fit the bill.

Dauphine for sure! My friend had one in High School. Three-bolt wheels were an oddity on an odd car (at the time).

    • @88SC

Some old Hillmans had the same quirky feature, but with a more conventional looking pattern circle size.

  • @MartinSage

My Uncle used to take me to my High School in his early 60’s 3sp Renolt Dolphene. I remember how tiny it was and how noisy too. But it was cool seeing my friends look at me crawling out of it at school 😎

One of the greatest collections of incomplete projects I've ever seen. As fellow ADD collector truly understands, that what happens when somethings happens and then we wonder what didn't happen, then at the same time what we thought was about to happen, was replaced by something that happened to be happening when at the same time some another thing was beginning to happen.

The Tiger is such a cool car,
I still remember in the 70’s
i was a teenager and a guy had a tiger close to my parents house. the sound of that V8.
Every time I heard it, i’d go out to see it going down the street...

The DKW would be my favorite car to see being rebuild but as another person commented, finding spare parts would probably be both time consuming and expensive. The Renault Dauphine looks like in great shape and a project to transform it like a Gordini would be very attractive (by the way, congrats on how you pronounced Renault Dauphine, faultless!). Spare parts would be easier to provide too.

I'm in New Zealand, and the Mini vans took me back to when i learnt to drive in an 'Estate', then bought a Panel Van with an 1100 mtr, then bought a 67 Mini car-Glutton for Punishment- good fun, but a complete bastard to work on. Keep up the good work- MG's Minis etc are as scarce as hens teeth here now.

Glad someone is saving these cars, I have the same illness, you can't save them all but the 'you never know' level is high, the one day I'll do it is also high, but do your own thing, you like these cars as much as I do, I like the Midget project...looks like screaming for your help... I can imagine the smell of the cars and how these cars make you feel better... Keep saving them even the too far or partscars find a home, over here the pleasure is over, the outside cars are found, the inside too expensive....pitty...I'm a very big fan, top!

Steve: Great video, as always! I would love to see you do something with your Renault Dalphine. When I was very young, in the early 1960s, my Dad had one in black, with a black and white interior. In those days, it seems that many people who lived in New York and commuted to NYC had a "regular car" that they drove on weekends, and a "commuter car" for commuting to the city. My Dad's commuter car was a Renault Dalphine. He only drove it for a couple of years, then sold it when we moved to AZ, where we only needed his "regular car" which was a 1959 Oldsmobile Super 88. I recall that the Dalphine got great mileage, but suffered from many quality issues such as the tail lights filling with water when it rained. -- it is amazing how picky people have gotten recently. Keep up the good work!

Love the South Amana Jeep, my grandpa has lived in South Amana his entire life, I go there often - that thing is amazing! If you know the area well, he weaves rugs and sells them out of his little shop in South. I know a guy who has a (50's?) postal Jeep in rough shape who lives outside of South as well, think he got it from the Society if I remember correctly. Would be awesome to see your Jeep back on the road, maybe put it in the Octoberfest parade? I am sure a lot of older Amana residents would recognize it and love to see it running again! If you ever decide to get rid of it for cheap, it might be a fun project!

I owned a ‘67 Triumph Spitfire and a ‘62 TR3b. Both I drove while living in Italy. The Spitfire had zero problems but the TR3b was constantly overheating (In the early 70’s they didn’t have electric fans which would’ve fixed the overheating problem.). It finally blew a head gasket.🥵😡

Hi Steve. Thanks for this . I think you know most of the "B"s are breakers apart from the pull handle roadster and the GT. Dauphine ....great idea ! All the Sunbeams are worth saving (to save Tigers ) The mini's would sell well over here ($3 to 4 k for the pair ) You'll never break a 'frogeye"!! 😂 And just a huge pat on the back for saving these classics. Well done Steve !

Apart from some weird and wonderful historic cars, the thing I liked most about this tour is your realistic attitude. Too many guys accumulate rare cars in terrible condition and hoard them, often outside, for decades. Most, if not all of them, will never be back on the road.
You finish projects; we see that, but you realise that you can't save them all and you seem to be picking through your collection, using the cars for the best final outcome. 👍👌😁
No-one lives long enough to restore a collection of that size but you accept that and I enjoy watching you restore/save the ones that make the cut.👍
Reading through the comments, it looks very much like the Dauphine should be first to get the Steve treatment, along with the DKW and some sort of challenge with Kevin from JYD. I'll happily watch any, or all, of these. T.W.W.C. is so much better than the mainstream motoring cr@p that infests my tv.
    Cheers for now,
    Dougie.
