- Today i noticed the bathroom taps were a touch loose and instead of fixing them i thought its best to just melt them all down into a perfect golden Ingot.

1. Usually, houses are made of combustible material such as wood.
Wood decomposes above 300 C.
2. Gyproc. This contains Calcium sulfate. It would at first emit H2O as water of crystallization is released. Then, at 1460 C, it will melt.
3. Cement/Concrete. This contains CaCO3 which would decompose to CaO at 1000 C. CaO melts at 2613 C.
The various silicates would melt around 1200 C
4. Nails. These are made of iron, which melt at 1535 C
5. Aluminium parts would melt at 660 C and copper parts at 1084 C

The magnetic properties are probably coming from the chrome finish contamination. Still brass but basically a slightly different blend from normal.
I agree, it was probably made with a cheap alloy of brass too.Lots of contaminants and all that.
What intrigued me was that it's a magnetic brass with well below the melting point of iron brass. Interesting!
Maybe there`s a hint of nickel from the chroming process...

You have video proof that your pup chews on metal. So it is "possible" that he ate the taps. After all anything is possible. Love the ideas, love the videography and love the humour.
Chrome plating normally requires a Nickel plated substrate. When you melted the lot, the Nickel alloyed with the brass. Hence the magnetic nature of your ingot.
So what happens brass+bismuth=? Will it have super anti magnetic metal

I heat up the mold as if there’s even the tiniest bit of moisture in there the moisture can turn to steam instantly and cause a steam explosion sending molten metal everywhere. That’s why it’s also a good idea to pre-heat your metal over the furnace before adding it to existing molten metal as the same thing can happen if there’s moisture in the pieces you’re putting in. The reason that the bar is magnetic is because that shiny coating was actually nickel, instead of chrome.
Nickel is one of the few materials that displays ferromagnetic properties. It would be in very low concentrations in your bar, that’s why the attraction is so weak. So instead of brass, you now have a Cu-Zn-Ni alloy!

Would there be a way to separate the Cu, the Zn, and the Ni from each other during the heating process? Or would that separation have to occur chemically? perhaps via an 'anti-plating' process? or would the original metal need to be ground up real small, then put in a solution and then 'chemical stuff' done to it?
If it had been chrome plated, would there have been a way to separate the chrome from the brass? Because that way, over time, when you (i'm looking at BigD now) got enough chrome you could make an Element Cube for Chrome. :-) [note: As I wrote that, I began to wonder if chrome is an element (from the periodic table). But I think it is, so the question should still be good].

There's no real way to separate the metals during the melting process. The easiest and best way to separate the three would be to use HCl (Hydrochloric acid) as it will react with both the Zn and the Ni. This reaction will leave the Cu in its metallic state while dissolving both the Zn and the Ni. It would be best to do this process with the material finely ground as it would react faster. The Zn and Ni could then be precipitated out of solution and separated.
If you really wanted to, you could just heat the molten mixture of the three metal for a long period of time. This would burn the Zn out of the motel solution as it readily reacts with oxygen. Then you would have a Cu-Ni alloy. However, this would also result in losing a good amount of the other materials as well due to them reacting with oxygen.
Chromium is an element, however it would be far more difficult to separate as Cr is very chemically resistant. It could be done using HNO3 (Nitric acid), this would dissolve the Cu, Zn, and Cr. They could then be separated individually and melted.
