Thanks so much for sharing this. Clips of the show from this period are just about nonexistent. This was a very groundbreaking story I had never seen any of until now. Beyond that part, we also get to see the wonderful Constance McCashin (as the mother) and in the commercial, Maeve McGuire.
@@edgefan4437 in the same commercial opposite Maeve Maguire, I know that gorgeous lady has been in a lot of t.v. projects, too. Same for the Safe Day deodorant model, and the mother in the vitamin commercial!
@@jeffreymcdaniel6813 I recognize the one in the vitamin commercial as someone I've seen in other projects. Sorry, don't place the other ones but I agree the woman in the Dove commercial with Maeve is very beautiful, but that was a long time ago and I may not have seen shows or other projects she was in. Many actors make a successful career out of doing commercials for a living.
Wow. So cool to find any episodes of soaps from 1970-1978. That was Constance McCashin playing Amanda’s mother. Constance would later join Knots Landing as part of the original cast. 😊😊
@Cheryl Arutt bless you for putting this clip online for us to all enjoy! I watched AMC from the 70’s to the 90’s so this is the biggest treat for me. This episode aired in April 1977. Likely during the first week. Beth died in March and Paul took Anne away to recuperate. Just a few weeks after this in the first week of May, Anne took an overdose of pills to join her daughter in death. The reason was because Judith Barcroft (Anne) quit the show when it expanded from 30 mins to an hour. Judith and Bill Mooney (Paul) were massively popular as Anne and Paul and had a tortured onscreen romance that lasted years. Never imagined I’d see any of this again. And Cheryl, you were an excellent child actress!
Thank you so much for your sweet (and informative!) message. I knew that Anne's character took her own life shortly after these scenes, and that they were meant to be setting up for that plot twist. My understanding is that my character "Elizabeth" and Anne's deceased daughter coincidentally had the same name, and that was too much for her to bear on their attempted convalescence getaway. Your practical reasons shed light on the why behind the scenes - why Judith Bancroft wanted to leave the show. I appreciate your kind words and thank you for filling in some blanks for me.
I liked the Tylers. And Ann was a good actress. I found her name, Judith Barcroft, is playing Ann Tyler in this episode. She was married to Paul Martin. Paul is played by Willaim Mooney at this time, and Mooney played the character the longest, I think.
Its an important story here that was rarely confronted head on. This anger is not unusual at all. Grief after the death of a child or a miscarriage impacts a couple so very differently. The cycles it takes, are never going to coincide precisely, and the way each spouse decides to cope will inevitably be a source of conflict, that can often lead to a separation or divorce. Thats why grief couples counseling early on, can be vital to long term success in the face of such a tragedy.
Ann. The tragic heroine of Pine Valley. I remember her death so vividly. First time I ever saw someone “die” on a television program. Thank you for posting. Btw....did you get to meet Erica? LOL
@CherylArutt I would like to know if I can make requests. I am interested in more originally episodes of All My Children, One Life To Live, Ryan's Hope, Edge of Night, Days of Our Lives, Young and The Restless, Guiding Light, ABC, CBS and NBC Daytime Lineups( originally aired) all from 1977. Can you please send me a reply and let me know if you have them via TH-cam?
Nicole you can search youtube for them. Sometimes people post episodes and sometimes they are removed because of copyright protection, so it's hard to say what will still be on here and what may not. so, I suggest searching by the name of the show and the year 1977 to see what you may find. also, people add new episodes and clips all the time, surprisingly.
I don't have any more AMC but I may have some OLTL because I was on that show in the 80s briefly as Danny Wolek's love interest (Tim Waldrip). Also on ATWT during the teenage storyline with Julianne Moore & Marisa Tomei for a while.
@@creativeinsight Awesome! Dumb me I didn't realize you are the little girl in the clip. I didn't read the description until you mentioned other soaps you had done.
@CherylArutt First, I would like to know if the One Life To Live episodes that you may have are originally aired with commercials; if so, can you please upload them? Thanks.
Cheryl Arrut this might sound like an odd question but I’m a huge nostalgia buff and familiar with New York City based entertainment at the time, so this clip made me wonder: As a child actress of that age in 1977, were you at all familiar with the original Broadway production of Annie? I know they auditioned New York kids for the out of town Connecticut run and eventual transfer to Broadway. Did you audition or know other kids who did? I have this idea of it being a relatively small world so would imagine a lot of you kids knew each other back then. In 1977, original lead Andrea McArdle and all those orphan girls were everywhere because the show was such a big hit, and I know Andrea was appearing on a daytime soap just before being cast. You look and sound like you would have been a good fit for that cast.
Not an odd question at all! Andrea McArdle had been on Search for Tomorrow with my sister at the time. And we saw the pre-broadway production back when SJP was the lead, even before Andrea. I remember Danielle Brisbois, Diana Barrows, Kristen Vigard . . . and a number of the other kids. I was not a belting singer so that show was not a fit for me to perform in, but I was an avid audience member. It was a lot of fun to see friends doing a show with so many other kids.

OMG the little girl’s Mom in this scene is Constance McCashin from Knots Landing ! ThAt’s awesome
Constance McCashin?! Wow... she always reminded me of Gillian Spencer (Daisy Cortlandt).
Thanks for posting! I have been trying to find old clips of AMC pre-1978.

Retro tv should add more soap operas.
Please post more of AMC.
Maeve McGuire (Edge of Night) in the Dove ad and (I think) Mary Frann (Newhart) in the One-a-Day spot.
You are mistaken that is not Mary Frann from Newhart in that 1977 One a day commercial. Mary Frann did a Ban roll on commercial in 1978.😉
Watched you as a kid in that primal movie , happy to see you didn't get sucked into hollywierd
This is so clear
Wow ..this is so rare. That poor Anne Tyler was already losing it. Then Paul has that affair with Ellen her best friend.
All before being blown up 💣💥
Wow. Didn't know Ellen was in that role as the "other woman.". Karma sure hit her big time with Ross and Natalie.
