I had a 50 Chrysler Windsor same situation was to aggressive removing valves and broke 2 valve guides was able to remove them and press new ones in using
A small bottle jack and a chain across the head bolts the cool thing was My dad had a spring compressor for flat heads in his tool box was a learning experience working under the fender to remove and install the keepers.
Thank you for the great memories I was 16 in 1984 doing this same job

I had a 1950 Plymouth as a kid and had that flathead engine all apart at times. Cracked a piston skirt which was a major repair with junk yard replacement in 1964.🤣 Easier to take the side covers off the block to see the valve springs and use a spring compressor to remove the keepers and just take the valves out. Clean the valve stems and the guides.
Before high temp paints I used the same aluminum color paint used for hot water or steam home heating radiators to paint the head to make it pretty,🤣🤣 So I was just 16.

The "Flathead 6" had "stuck valves" as "par-for-the-course."! This was THE SIMPLE motor to "deal with"! This car will RUN FOREVER! These were GREAT RIDES!

Its far quicker to remove them, then clean the guides with a .30 cal gun brush. Unless you remove the valve, the varnish/carbon gunk in the guides will never go away.

Use Z Max. That's the stuff that actually penatrates iron and steel for lubrication.

Curious if you got them free I maybe would have tried rotating them or maybe just taking them out and clean them up Good Therapy George

I hope you get it running. I feel like you're close to where it may work itself out if it ran a bit.

Whats the status on the Desoto? I'm currently working on 47'Dodge Deluxe sedan, with a fluid drive unit too. Thanks

Current status is space-holder in my driveway. I do have a little footage filmed, but want to get the head on it and back running before I release anything. If you're subscribed, it should alert you when I upload something. If not, please check back. Thanks for watching!

@@genuineworkinghands Thanks for responding back! Thats great news, I'm currently having my engine overhauled; complete tear down, as the engine was mystery when grandfather replaced the original back in the late 70's, and wanted to start fresh. This is my favorite era of vehicles, with lots of style and innovation.

Try carb cleaner. Lubricants aren't good at dissolving deposits on valve stems or guides.

All that corroded 'pot metal' trim...pretty much impossible to fix
