OMG i got best in class thanks to your tutorial video :D hope you make more good videos and i also told my classmates to watch you you are a fantastic geography professor youtuber!hope you gain subs :DD
I'm so glad you found this video helpful. May the studies go well! I have posted quite a few other vids, did you see my mapwork playlist? Anyway, have a nice day!
It's amazing how a % gradient or degrees slope can sound like it's not very steep! but in fact is very steep. 50% ( 27 degrees ) is about the limit you can walk up easily. 100% (45 degrees) you'd probably need / want a safety line.
Hi Johan, I have recorded a few more videos which are still being edited, so I'm trying to keep the vids coming. It is quite hard for me to do this regularly as I am a full time teacher, but your suggestion is certainly something to consider for the future. Jy kan Afrikaans praat met my - eks ook Afr, maar ek post Engelse videos sodat meer mense kan verstaan. Ok, lekker bly!
Hi, I'm quite sure that meters is the standard unit of measurement for the vertical interval. I have never come across a contour map with a different unit of measurement. Let's say you sit for a test or an exam and all you see on the map are numbers without any indication of the type of unit used, then I'm 100% sure you'll be safe if you use meters. If, for some reason. the teacher decides to use a different unit, then it should be indicated on the map or the test paper. So make sure you read the question thoroughly and look for clues on the map if you want to be 100% sure, but I would be very surprised if a different unit of measurement is used than meters. All of the best with the studies!
I'm glad these videos help! No probs man, you can be even better than me. I was no good when I started teaching. The more you teach and explain, the easier it becomes. All of the best with the studies!
Hi, you need to look at the height of the contour line, spot height, or trig beacon. You could watch this video for more info: m.th-cam.com/video/MbK035so8Yg/w-d-xo.html. I hope it helps 😉

how could it be 12,5km from 1 250 000cm if the ratio scale is 1:50 000? surely you would have to convert the 1 250 000cm to km then divide by 2, because the 1:50 000 ratio is 1cm to 0,5km.
Hi Jenna, thanks for the question. If your unit of measurement is centimetres, then you will divide by 100 000 in order to convert to kilometres, regardless of the size of the scale. There's no need to divide by 2. When you work in millimetres, you divide by 1000 000, regardless of the size of the scale. I hope that answers your question.
Hi, in order to convert form cm to km, you divide by 100 000. I explain it in more detail in my distance calculation video at the following link: th-cam.com/video/BANNwyet-e8/w-d-xo.html. All of the best with the studies and exams!
I don't think so. When you calculate a gradient, you want to find out how steep the slope is, so I don't think negative or positive is something to consider. Good question though.

Oh hang on, feet can also be used as the unit of measurement.
Should you have convert the cm to m instead of converting to km and then km to m. Would that be simple for the student?
