He was already.
He is cute, I like he is not that handsome tbh. Ryle is also kind of ok.. I think it would be better if Ryle was really really handsome, I think it would have been more powerful for the movie
When they do these movies based on such a popular book, they should do a poll of what people envisioned them looking like
No honestly they should!!
bruh you've clearly NEVER watched a book to movie adaption, its the director's choice and a little bit of the author's choice. no matter how popular or how historical the book is. its always the directors choice
weird opinion. the movie is about physical abuse, not your fantasies about good looking men. atlas is cool, perfect even.

Yeah older and somewhat bolder. In my perception, Lily was this delicate young girl. Even Ryle’s sister doesn't seem that carefree jolly person as portrayed in the book. Atlas is fine but again older.
Colleen Hoover has explained that making the characters so young in the books was a mistake. It would have made more logical sense for them to be in their 30s
The guy playing Atlas was what i imagined her husband would look like.
Same😂
Whoever it is, the Atlas in my imagination would be someone who will treat and provide Lily with all the best things he could ever.
From someone who didn't read the book, i think the movie seems great and really heart-wrenching. I do understand how it may be hard for readers since the characters are not what they imagined. However, i think it's fair to give the movie a chance!
shut up u havent read it
Good book. Read it and then read It Begins With Us. Enjoy!!!!
I read a few pages and I imagined Atlas like Timothée Chalamet.
Atlas is good. But damn, I had a different one in my head 😢
Exactly!!! I'm hurt😭
Chris Hemsworth maybe :P
i imagined louis patridge as atlas 💀💀😭
Exactly my expectations...my imagination all are ruined now 😭😭
I had ian somerhalder in my head
Justin Baldoni playing Ryle is imo excellent casting. The whole point of Ryle is to highlight that abuse comes from those who we least expect it which in turn contributes to the vicious cycle. Justin himself addresses topics like toxic masculinity and misogyny through his man enough podcast and I think the choice of him not just to direct but to play a character such as Ryle further shows that it really can happen to anyone. It reminded me of casting choices from Promising Young Woman where there were intentional casting decisions to further the message of that movie.
All of this!!!
blake lively looks gorgeous with ginger hair! i don't care what everyone says - i know we were all hoping for a younger actress for lily - but blake is an amazing actress and i'm sure will do the character justice
Absolutely she can pull everything.
Agreed!! Never pictured her as a ginger , but she pulls it off well!!! ❤
…….but she looks 50 in the movie, what did they do to her?
Agreed
As a victim/survivor extreme violence from my ex husband and the father of my children, this would be a tough one to watch.
Especially the words "one day you have a daughter and she came to you and told you the person she loved was hurting her, what would you say"....
I said those exact words to him when our daughter was born... And then I had a son, and the fear of them being harmed mentally or physically, drove me farther away than being s/assaulted or being strangled.
We got out 7 months after he was born, being nude and left for dead in the garage whilst he took off leaving our children alone and in bed, having my 2 year old find me and essentially save my life, we left the very next day.
Hurts to see movies that portray or even romanticize these sorts of relationships, I know it's only a trailer for a movie but jeez, I wasn't mentally prepared.
Bless you 🤲🤲
I have women that are very close to me that have gone through the same situations. What I don’t understand is what made you stay and have multiple children with someone that is abusive? What is the thought frame? What would you say to people who say that you stop being the victim the moment you continuously have children with an abuser? Because you’ve gone from being a victim to being a perpetrator by introducing innocent children to a situation they had no choice in? I’ve heard this argument before and I feel it’s very black and white. It doesn’t take into account the psychological breakdown a woman endures.
@@stephoso Well I met him when I was 15. We started dating when I was 18 and I was pregnant by 19.
He is 12 years older than I am.
I am now fully convinced he groomed me way back when we first met.
I didn't know the reality of how bad it all was until I was too far in, the red flags were there but I was so deep in the middle of it that I wasn't able to be objective.
I was utterly brainwashed into thinking it was all part of being a part of a long-term adult relationship.
I must mention he was/is very good at manipulating any situation and me and others.
It wasn't until the hospital staff told me after I drove my heavily pregnant self to the hospital after a violent assault, and they saw his size 12 steel cap boot print on my thigh, after I just told them that I slipped in the bathroom, that I was even told it was DV and wasn't relationship drama or normal problems to endure at all.
It was horrendous to endure and to have that mindset of victim blaming is just being an absolutely shit human and unless you've actually been in the situation of fighting for your children's and your life and living every day in flight or fight mode, walking on eggshells every single day, out of fear for your children's safety, you really don't have any valid opinions or rights to tell the actual survivors how they should feel or what it's like to be in that abusive dynamic.
I wasn't and will never, ever be a perpetrator of violence towards my kids, I saved them, like I saved myself, and did everything in my power to keep them from all of it.
I was forced to have our second child, he was a product of rape.
I had 2 miscarriages, both same circumstances, but I lost them after being assaulted further, one that I lost was between our 2 living children and one two months after my son was born, that wasn't ever my choice.
Literally no one outside of our relationship knew the full extent of everything going on at the time, the people closest to us had an inkling but not proof until things came to light and I finally found my voice after the incident whilst being pregnant with our second child.
I put things in place immediately when I found out what was happening and what the relationship truly was, to start making steps to get away, we were in refuge for almost 2 years.
I did everything to protect my children so to have people even lightly suggest I abused them or put them in harms way by staying, Jesus, just take a step back and realize life isn't that simple and leaving is incredibly dangerous. Especially when dealing with a very possessive sociopathic narcissist that doesn't care about anyone or anything unless he controls it completely.
I had to placate him for months so I could bide my time to make a plan to keep my children safe.
He said too many times that if I was to try to leave, he would murder my daughter, my son, my family in front of me, then himself just so I have to suffer forever. That's just a miniscule amount of the shit I went through, not even scratching the surface, I would be here for months explaining everything that happened during the time we were together.
You have no god damn idea what it's like to "live" like that.
That's what I'd say. :)

I wish I knew more about DV beforehand but knowing all that I do know now, I try to educate anyone who will listen.
If only to make sure everyone around me and anyone I can inform knows they have a choice, and a right to feel safe and loved without conditions.
I just wish I could protect everyone from the harsh world and reality, of what it is whilst living through DV.
Informing them what DV actually is, what it looks and sounds like, and the red flags to look for, and to know there's support out there for help in crisis is so important.
I want to open the discussion to help anyone I can survive it. ❤️

I was feeling the same way until i saw the trailer. Then i got excited. I guess sometimes you have the right cast but the acting sucks. Its better to have a good actors and actress to play it better.
Older actors can't play parts? Atlas has to be more handsome? No praise for the emotions being portrayed? No word for the song my tears richochet? The comment section is not doing justice. A movie is someone's imagination, they can cast anyone
They can cast whomever they want but viewers are also allowed to have an opinion on that casting. Sorry but I agree. Not a fan of the casting choice. There are younger actors in their 20s that would have done this movie justice.
Yea because this book has a fundamentally immature fanbase, they can't fathom that the situations that the age bracket for the situations the characters are put into is wide
If they casted someone younger, they would have said something too. I think, given the very mature, triggering plot points in the book, they had to go older.
Think about if they cast someone younger (maybe looking to get away from Disney shows or something). They would come with a large fan base of young people, who would want to maybe go see this. In my opinion, it's a little too heavy for someone who is 12, 13, 14, even a little older to see or even read. I get you have different people in your head but with a subject like DV, there has to be a nuanced sense of maturity and Blake and Justin have that.
I totally agree. I feel like it’s better that they aged them up.
I feel like this movie deserved refreshing talent. The actors chosen seem redundant. It’s an opinion but I felt like the casting was lazy.
As a kid who grew up in a household with domestic violence happening on a daily basis, this movie hits different. I've never really seen things from my mother's perspective and it hurts more to see that she may have been happy like Lily in the beginning until my dad started hitting her. 💔
I just.. saw Atlas differently..😢

The flower shop...Just perfect as I imagined
Not going to lie when I saw Atlas I was like NOPE, but then I heard his voice and I was like YYYYYYAAAAAASSSSS!! I wanted him to be rugged and rough around the edges and it literally became an instant change of mind for me!! I just finished rereading the book and I’m looking so forward to this movie and crying my eyes out!! 🥰
I wasn’t sure about the actors but after watching the trailer I cant wait to see it!!
The actor playing Atlas, if you could see his acting in the show 1923 and the way he looked, it totally fits! It's the hair that's throwing it off but I'm so looking forward to this. Our imaginations are usually so much better but can't wait to see the movie!
Liky bloom acting here is just amazing i can feel her emotions when she asked ryle about what would he do if her daughter goes through it
Never in my wildest dream imagined lily , Ryle and atlas to be this old
I’m so excited for this movie. I genuinely like the cast, their chemistry, and how real it feels.
Hmm, I'm not too excited after watching this 😳Casting Blake as Lily... she doesn't quite fit the part😢
I think she's perfect
I am not good with imagining characters or scenes when I read but somehow this is not what I thought lily would be like 🤔.
She looked like a cougar!

Okay as a book reader, i couldn't imagine Lilly to be 23, i always envisioned them to be a tad older, so the movie casting seems perfect to me. Except Atlas. We all pictured him to be this amazing knight-in-shining-armour guy who would instantly make us fall in love with him from first glance, that isn't happening

The trailer makes me want to read the novel again!
I read the whole novel yesterday and it hurts to see the story It was like I was going through it all over again. I can totally understand why it took so long for you to finally rylee because sometimes we think our love can change that person. And we tend to give him more and more and more chances to hurt us. And Yes we should break the pattern we should not let them hurt us ,we should make it stop. It's been so many years that I I have left this guy but when I read the novel it was like all my old wounds were opened again. I couldn't sleep last night because everything was replaying in my memories I couldn't speak I couldn't hear anything , I was just nymb, I was just reliving all the pain that he has given me (the guy I loved the most) . I was never able to trust any guy ever again, he just broke something in me. I definitely do not love him any more ,but there are so many painful memories that get revived whenever I watch something like this, I get scared ... will I ever be able to love someone or trust someone????

Why can’t you guys just put the cast as they are described in the book? It’s described beautifully there and in this it’s all nothing

Grown up people don’t say that ryle is ugly . Because to say something like that it’s just so childish and mean, just because Atlas wasn’t represented by the sexiest perfect men , like Theo James . This movie represents something real . Actually real. It already teaches us , that you can easily be fouled by something so beautiful, while in reality it hurts you . And tbh the actor is a pretty fine looking man ❤Loved the trailer . Excited to see it in theatres .
