  • Welcome to THAMES TOWN, a British town on the outskirts of Shanghai in Songjiang district. A British architect designed this entire place and it looks just like I'm at home. See if you can figure out who the statues are in the video around the 3:45 minute mark!

Not a ghost town at all. Most rich people like to live in quiet community. I can give you some quiet small cities in the US like Los Alto Hills, Atherton, Palo Alto, Woodside, etc.

It is not supposed to be a copy but more of a "theme-ing" and it is used as a marketing tool to differentiate from other residential areas. Some Chinese people are attracted to western-like aesthetics but a majority are not. Nevertheless, these type of copies are visually appealing and that's why people like going to these places to take pictures.

It should be turned into a theme park. Where are the muggers and homeless people 😉😉

Hey thanks for the video! I am a Chinese who stay in Songjiang area( where this Thames town located) for 4 years. Little people were there probably because it’s cold in January and because of the COVID as well. If you go there when it’s warm and sunny, you will find a different place! Here are some recommendations for you based on my experience:1, there is a building of books beside the big church, it is worth seeing! 2, you can go to 车墩影视城, where old fashion Shanghai elements are well-preserved, you may even encounter with actors shooting films(like I did) 3. 上海欢乐谷in 佘山 subway station. 4. 佘山世茂洲际酒店, the most unique and magnificent underground luxury hotel which was just finished 2 years ago. Regarding you call this town “fake “. In the beginning I don’t feel well because fake is a negative word, but then I realize what you are saying is basically true. You won’t get angry when someone call you fat(for example, you are not at all) only if they are your friends not a random guy. So I feel okay with that probably because I subscribed you a period of time and I like watching your videos. Keep going! Plz go sightseeing with a good weather !

They are replicas calling them fake is a bit rude. We have Louvre palace replicas in Katmandu but no one calls them fake. The architect wanted British theme not exact buildings and that's why there is hodgepodge of houses and buildings from different periods. Anyway interesting. Thanks for the video.

In fairness it's been plastered as the "fake british town" all over the media and other youtube videos. I agree the overall style and theme is not fake, India has a lot of British architecture for example, but the key is that there is an exact copy of Churches, pubs and street signs here, which is why people call it "fake", because it is not the real Christ church, nor the real oxford street! It's certainly not intended to be rude, so i apologise if i caused any offence.

@@livinlavidaluke still doesn't make it right though. It's like everyone calling a Chinese food establishment 'chinky', it is offensive to the majority of the Chinese race but some of us non Chinese seem to justify it all by saying that everyone uses that word so it should be okay. Don't make the mistake that just because everyone uses the word, it doesn't mean it's not rude or disrespectful.

    • @livinlavidaluke
      @livinlavidaluke  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It’s not like that word at all as there’s no racial connotations to it?? like he said in Katmandu they just have the theme and not exact buildings, but here they have the exact copy of Christ church in Bristol, there’s also a copy of a pub from Dorset which the original landlord complained about as it looks the same.

If the houses are occupied then it is not a real ghost town is it? Has the house price come down? Silence is such a commodity in China, worth buying.

I wonder what were the developers thinking then. May have gone Evergrande by now I suppose.
It's beautiful, not practical at those prices though.
I guess it was someones dream.
There was a developer here in our country where the boss loves European houses so much he did build a rather Netherland'ish housing years ago.
It just could'nt sell for whatever reason.
Now it's delapidated and heard that another developer had taken the land over. Perhaps going to be torn down for high rise apartments.

why when it comes to china suddenly words like fake is liberally used.. what is your intentions.. there are china towns in most western cities including London.. they are really places.. not fake.. it makes interesting visit for the Locals for those that can't afford to travel to the other side of the world.. i live near kew garden a few years the Chinese pagoda at Kew are real copy of a Chinese pagoda.. millions of people take pictures there.. its a real pagoda not fakes..

    • @livinlavidaluke

China town is just restaurants though, and doesn’t look like any “real” place in China! If you had a town in the UK with a copy of Beijing’s forbidden city, everyone would call that the fake forbidden city. I only called it that because of the copy of Bristol’s christ church, if it wasn’t a copy i wouldn’t call that fake, i’d just call it a standard church as i do in other videos😜
Also although it’s nice to go to, the Chinese government have stopped the creation of these replica towns now.

@@rainbow2639 Hello! Yes, I agree the overall style and theme of Thames Town is not fake, India has a lot of British architecture for example and so this is not fake, but the key thing here is that Thames Town has an exact copy of Bristol's Christ Church, as well as the same street signs and the same branding of a famous English pub, this is why people call it "fake".
If your hometown made an exact replica of a famous Japanese garden, then maybe it would be labelled the fake version of it! But because it is just in the style of a general Japanese garden it's not. The same here, Thames Town does not have the original Christ Church, nor the real oxford street! But everything else I agree is not fake, but rather a British theme, so I changed the title, hope I didn't cause offence.
