    I had a 99 2.5RS RBP Coupe and I'm so glad I never tried to turbo it. That car lasted forever and took me so far. Perfect, cheap, reliable, sporty and stylish commuter car. Of course I had turbo envy for years but my new OB XT Onyx has finally cured me of that.

    • @KevBacon6
      @KevBacon6 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah but the OB has a CVT. Mine lasted exactly 58,000 miles. Lol

    Hey enjoyed your vid but I feel the route you took was a more expensive one. Of course there are many ways to do a swap and if you have the money then sure your way would be fun but the average car enthusiast is going to wrench on their own car due to budget restraints. ln the simpliest form a swap could literally be done with an EJ205 from any junkyard connected to a cheap Haltech ecu to get the engine to run and optionally piggyback riding any other things you actually want to the factory ecu. Then you just grab a heavy duty clutch kit and source some bigger brakes both of which if you are lucky you can get from a donor car and boom done. There is so may how to videos on TH-cam that spending 15grand on labor from a mechanic really isnt necessary. Anyways just my 2 cents IM a WRX owner so I subscribed. Keep up the awesome work!! Much love

    Donor car for the win! I am about 10k all in with 2 door chassis, 03 WRX donor car, iwire merge and all the stuff.... Every time a vape bro wrecks a GD a GC gets its wings!

    • @stevemartegani
      @stevemartegani 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Full donor car is required for anything pre-facelift (~96) anyway. Need to fuel tank and all the evap system converted from the old style evap.

      @stevemartegani 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@1mtk iWires blog is critical to read, and Bucky has some good videos.
      For passing BAR, you need to keep everything stock unless it comes with a CARB sticker that is in the engine bay. I passed my BAR inspection with a COBB tune and CARB sticker for it in order to bypass the process of having the ECU map verified by a dealership which you have to do.

    • @ItsJacare

      @@stevemarteganiis the tank plug n play. And where the heck would you get a preface scooped hood?

    • @stevemartegani
      @stevemartegani 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ItsJacare GD tanks bolt into GCs, but the wiring is different. The fuel lines are different from the earlier GCs versus later models and are more compatible, I had to swap the lines on my 93 to run the tank.
      Prefacelift scooped hoods show up for sale every now and then, the Japanese engine import places bring them in sometimes. I don't recommend a pre-facelift hood with a GD swap though, there are several points of interference with the prefacelift hood, you have to modify the hood to clear spots (with a hammer)

    This is definitely the more expensive way of doing things. For the 6spd for example, you can source a non-dccd trans which is always cheaper than the dccd counterpart. You also dont require brembos with that setup,just the front axles.... Also, keep in mind all of this doesn't have to all be done at once and significantly cheaper if you do it all yourself.

    $2k for a shifter setup ?? Is it just a short throw kit for the linkage connection? Seems super pricey even in todays market. Found you from your podcast and looking foreard to more mechanical, in depth talks, parts comparisons, setups etc. The other subaru podcast is ok but the guy says his most mechanically difficult thing he did was a pitch stop..he mainly just talks about the soobie culture and nothing mechanical..which is why I like listening to You. Wishing You guys would pump out some more episodes. Also, I love my EJ Subarus but i also have a VB wrx with the FA24..such a great engine and chassis. I hated them at first but I got mine in all black and paint matching makes a world of difference. Really want to hear Your thoughts and opinion on the new engine/chassis and hopefully soon we will have some afforable port injection options for those of us looking past 500 wheel hp.

      @@beaches2mountains230 Haha! I know it will be fun and I knew it would be expensive but man! It was just eight years ago I did a TT swap on my NA 300ZX and for the same price I got half a Z from Japan, put on bigger turbos, injectors, intercoolers, manifolds, full exhaust system, etc.

    Wouldn’t it be more cost effective to go with a wrecked STI to make the swap happen instead of using a jdm motor? Seems like if you find the right example, you can just transfer everything over.
    Like you’d be able to get all suspension components, the trans, diff, motor (that may be a problem), and even interior if that’s what your into.

    • @minusmartin
      @minusmartin 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yeah, this is exactly what i did. bought a 2004 sti wrecked from the front and swapped everything you mentioned over with no issue. everything bolted on. then it was the wiring harness merge and you connected that to the sti engine harness and it started right up/ I did extra things like swapped the fuel tank and all that. Interior is completely up to the owner. you COULD put the 02-07 interior with some mods here and there no biggie, then you wouldnt have to get the harness merged. also, for the motor just swap the front subframe over and its direct bolt on too

      Absolutely love these cars but I’m gonna be starting a family somewhat soon and don’t want to worry about squeezing car seats into these lol
      With that being said, I kept all of my rare jdm parts and plan on buying a coupe when we get up there as a project. I’d probably keep it if I just needed a reliable daily and that was my only concern. Only thing aside from regular maintenance that I had to do in the last six years was swap transmission. I had to swap in another auto since my wife drove it every now and then, but I would highly recommend swapping in a manual since they’re far more reliable imo
