I think the lack of labor is a dead end. For example, if you have Lavatory, you will save dirt and extra water. Using water pump for Bog jelly is another point. At the beginning of the game, a dupe digs for food enough to feed himself. Exploring the map further brings a lot of resources and also Geyser. Research costs only 1/75 dupe, it's not expensive
That’s a very good point! I’m curious on your thoughts on beds; would having sleep shifts be effective as it removes the sore back debuff, therefore allowing full run speed. With a base the size required to accommodate 50 dupes, running is a considerable portion of the day
I still think the "Ranching Only" challenge would be fun to watch. What is it? Once you can do something with a ranch/critter, you can only do that. So if you have a plug slug, you can only use plug slugs for power. Same for metal refining, once you have a smooth hatch, you can only use smoot hatches. And you have to bee line for ranching, so you have to breed a smooth hatch if you can.
@@guesswho2778 Well that's why I said you have to rush things and not ignore ranchible things. Its an honor system. And the lack of plug slugs? Well that would be the challenge. You have to breed them if you don't have enough.
Honestly you have a wealth of knowledge in this game and it’s amazing to watch. It’s makes me so happy seeing you post a new video. Thank you for sharing your hard work ❤
Good run! Im gonna try this today. Go straight into hydroponics. Could have fed the plants directly from the sludgers. Also, if you find pincha, it is great to have around bathrooms, as they tend to stabilize around 37.5. You had an excess of pwater, and I think utilizing that resource might be key for next time. Also a bit more planning as far as the rooms go. Those bogbuckets you pointed out were too far away from the pwater. Farms below. Bedrooms should be higher up where oxygen is. Kitchen and food right next to the bathrooms. Otherwise great attempt! Cant wait to try ths myself. I also did the steel in 8 (10) cycles challenge. That was a lot of restarts.
@@EchoRidgeGaming Done! On Standard map. What a pain in the butt that was. Pincha is pretty worthless without sleet wheat, which I didn't get going until cycle 40. Absolutely need 5-6 algae distillers as well. I set up hydras to power the base. Found a nat gas geyser and then power was solved. Never made steel, but for funsies launched a steam rocket into space on cycle 75. Over the weekend I restarted 26 times over 14 hours of the challenge. I also added a stipulation that if I couldn't fix the random dupe death in 1 restart, I had to scrap the entire map (so I wasn't just happy pathing my way to a win). Cycles 25-30 and 65-70 are definitely the worst.
Wonder how useful it would be to spam a couple of the first two tiers of research stations to try and fast track the early research to get some of the self sustaining systems down asap. At the very least hydroponics farms seem like a must since even though there are so many dupes, they're all super slow movers over the period of time you'll be working them. They don't really have the time to go out and find what each plant needs as you mentioned with the bog jellies
So the oxygen part seemed like a non-issue. The food was, because of lack of dirt, because of insufficient dupe labor. Three suggestions: 1. Switch to plumbed bathrooms asap to save on dirt and dupe labor. 2. Try beelining for the coal to save a bit more labor on hamster wheels. 3. Maybe try hydroponics with bog buckets to save even more labor or at least pipe some water into a small tank with a couple of pitcher pumps next to them.
Knew it, by the time you get a somewhat stable food source, i.e. the mush bars and turning mud to poop, the dupes are too busy and you have no work force to mine what you need or research
With all that you’ve learned, would you be willing to retake the challenge? This was amazing to watch and I’m sure if you could redo it knowing all that you know now, I’m very hopeful to see 75 dupes reach cycle 75. Alternatively: 5 dupes per cycle added until 75 has been reached might make it more manageable.... or start with 5, add 10 per cycle if you really want to push it
On every game I play the first thing I try to accomplish is a bathroom system. In this scenario of 75 dupes you could have used the dupe created Polluted Water to feed plants.
Maybe if you'd gone with hydroponic farms earlier, so it would just be a couple dupes running on the wheels instead of having to go all that way with bottles of water?
It is possible. Done it and was finished building the setup on 42. Last 23 cycles was waiting. Main thing is first building small set-ups, meanwhile building big SPOM so you are ok with oxygen and power.
You should try again, it looks doable! Probably a better seed ou focusing in research as crazy right at the begining and then using lavatorys, stuff like that might do a big diff in the long run, but I'm still a noob at this game... Great video as always! :D
Hmm, it feels like this should be possible. This is only the starts of optimization. I might even give the challenge a try so I can offer better optimization tips next time you try. Without trying it myself, here are my suggestions: As others have suggested, the extra research on hydroponic tiles will likely be worth it. One dupe pressing mud should hopefully be able to provide pwater faster than one dupe using a bottler. And water can sit in pipes until the exact moment it's needed, letting you store water and making it less likely the bog buckets go unfed for long periods of time. Seeds are a big bottleneck. One of the few professions that needs to be managed with dupe priorities is possibly farmers. Higher farming skill = more seeds. With water being handled by sludge, a few dupes can handle harvesting. Try to get food from digging in the early days, so you have time for this ramp up. Is algae a thing on the swampy planetoid? I can't quite remember. If it is, tame fish once you've got the hydroponics research done. There might be a couple other more important researches, but fish should be early. Only kill non-elderly fish if you have no other option. You have to be able to ramp up your fish production quick. Starting from one fish wouldn't be fast enough. Digging in biomes you can get food is probably more efficient long term than mush bars. Build the machines early, but then disable them any time you have enough food. If that ever happens. I agree beds might just be a waste of time. Might be interesting to test a few runs, but I doubt that -1 is worth even just the time to build enough.
I wonder if hydroponic tiles might have been the cure to all your labor problems. Not sure if a swampy start is the best option as it doesn't offer a good path to ranching. I would want to start ranching from cycle 1 as ranching takes a long time to spin up especially when you need 20 ranches to feed 75 dupes. Maybe you can stretch your dirt and water to keep your dupes fed until then, but only if you start ranching immediately.
I would like to see a beginners guide. 'So you printed your first duplicants...' I have had oni for years but always struggle. There's just not quite enough guidance in game to help me figure things out. I haven't played in years but your videos make me want to try.
New computer name - Frost Bun As far recommendation, digging the tile beneath a plant harvests it faster. Not that it would save those 75 dupes, but still
If you done farms with aquaponic tiles it could have changed stuff. A couple of designated diggers And a designated researcher does difference. Sadly my computer can't handle 75 dupes.
I wonder, if you just left this colony running for long enough (without interfering), would it stabilize at a more reasonable dupe count? Or would it just be all downhill from here?
Itd be all downhill from there basically, because you also have to account for the fact that the rate at which you acquire resources will decrease along with a decrease in dupe count, and the resources you got already just arent infinite
Next run you should do it with the Soylent Green mod that was just introduced. That way you can print dupes and eat them. I AM ONLY KIDDING!! There is no such mod. That I know of. And hope never does. Good video.
Ah, a pity it had to end that early. I think next time you need to focus more on a sustainable cycle. Even if it does not cover 100% of the consumption, it will stretch out how long the natural resources last. Don't need to live forever, just for 75 cycles ;) However, mostly I am wondering _why_ dupe manual labor was an issue: Were the skills to spread out, resulting in nobody good ever doing a job quickly? Too much time spend sleeping on the ground vs a cot? Too much time gasping for air or being sick? *As for power:* Slicksters. Dupes produce CO2 (1.2kg/cycle by the wiki). Which can be converted into Fuel for Generators. Basically CO2 is a "byproduct" of the Calories+Oxygen=Dupe Labor process. On top of the actual generator. *As for power savings:* The Gas and Fluid versions of Slugs could be used as a no-energy Pump. Metal Ore could be more available then Dupe Labor or Coal to run generators. *Manual Liquid Pump:* You can use the Pitcher Pump + Bottle Opener as a "manual Pump" to move liquids around. Just put the Pitcher on high priority, and the Opener lower then all consumers. Should give you some ability to move liquids around.
so, zero Dupes made it? You should have sacrificed some Dupes to hard labor unto death, so that that some Dupes could survive to cycle 75. You could do better than zero, the goal was the most Dupes by cycle 75, not keeping the all alive for just over 36 cycles or whatever it's about to be as I'm nearing the end of the video.
well, polluted oxygen is included
I think the lack of labor is a dead end. For example, if you have Lavatory, you will save dirt and extra water. Using water pump for Bog jelly is another point. could easily game that by not encountering them.
could also easily fail it by not having enough creatures, plug slugs for example.
