I had recently purchased the game when it went on sale on the ps5 and man this game truly is a hidden gem. 9.8/10 for me. It seems to me that not a lot of people liked the ending but damn I was hooked. Now currently waiting for Cold Steel 2 to go on sale.

Class discrimination is common in monarchies, not in communism. Erebonia is an Empire, after all.
Also, an interesting thing about the setting is that their equivalent of industrial revolution happened like 50 years ago and they already have internet like technology.
About the ending, I see it as the point where they divided the game to be able to put it in a Vita card. Cold Steel 1 and 2 where development as only one game, after all.

interesting points! And I had no idea that they were in development as one game!

To be honest it was great that the game was divided. Both of them are about 70ish hours long (main+side quests, not 100%), 140+ hours for a single game would have been nuts (specially when NG+ is required to 100%) ToCS2 also added a ton of QoL stuff and gameplay additions/changes that made things a lot better.

I'm kinda surprised that they were developed as one, makes me wonder if 3 and 4 were made together as one as well, or if they were more prepared with how they were gonna handle the story lol

@@thejonbrownshow8470 once they released Cold Steel 2 the plan was to finish the series (cold steel) with one extra game… that grew so much they had to split in two parts.

The correct term for hierarchical class differences and such rules would be "feudalism".
      Very good review btw.

The ending was not bad have in mind this is a 4 game series with the overall trails timeline in mind since it makes more sense to go back and play a couple of games before then keep going with cold steel. And that ending was wow just gundam

At least you dont have to convince me. Normally im not into jrpgs, but I thought id give one a shot, and being a sucker for thicc physical collectors editions I found TOCS: Decisive Edition for PS4 at my local game store and bought it. And I just cant stop playing it. I love all the characters and really feel its easy to bond with them. Definately a must buy for both jrpg fans and newbies like me alike.

I hope you try sky trilogy soon. Cold Steel series come to divide the fanbase due to considerable drop in story and dialogue quality compared to the previous series. It's still miles better than like 95% of the games out there, but some original staffs moving onto Ys series really does show. Cold Steel series is in my opinion is inferior version of previous two arcs combined. I'm not saying this because I hate the game, Cold Steel is more like a repeat of elements shown in previous series but done more poorly.

interesting! I have some interest in the sky trilogy for sure!

Ironically I have a... Distaste for the jrpg genre but after persona 5 , I got into this game after googling games like persona, and I wasn't expecting much and did no research, but the immersion of rean, gaius, and Elliot discussing their weapons before starting the "orienteering exercise" sold me hard on the game, I hate when noone acknowledge their weapons and stuff like that in the games, plus I actually like rean not being a silent protagonist that I got to project myself on(tho like you can with him since he is a anime MC basically still to me, but his character motivations and personality really match the trails' assumption that you do all the sidequests xD

8:40 I liked how you're like the ending was terrible, and from a company that seem to want to sell more and more copies of each subsequent game and say that any place is good starting place, that's certainly true lol. But I think currently with all 4 games out in english, I'm just more so on the edge of my seat, but back when this game first came out on vita, I'd probably be pissed by the ending myself 😂

i couldnt imagine being a player who was hit with trails in the sky fc's ending and then needing to wait literal years to continue the scene.

Maybe I'm just not informed (which is possible since I'm playing the series as blindly as I can, with me watching reviews around now to fully master and understand the combat for the second game and second half of the first lol) but I assumed with a name like "something" falcrom, that they weren't a indie company, but if this counts as a "budget" title, I'd find that interesting lol

Before CS2 you should play the Crossbell dualogy (Zero no Kiseki/Ao no Kiseki) as it features the events in Crossbell that were talked about in CS1 and CS2 contains some major spoilers for those. Ideally also the Sky trilogy (which is even better than the CS games). For CS3 it is even more necessary to have played those... That is IF you want to keep at the series. Someone made a video on the Crossbell dualogy just few days after your CS review. You may want to check it out:
