I flew from Scandinavia to London just to take a trip in this new taxi having lunch and then I flew back. I love that car. The cabbie told me to sit in the drivers seat and took pictures. ❤️Love the glass roof, great in a big city when you want to look upwards. The intercom is great, you can talk to the driver even though he is in his own compartment and the card reader in the back makes it easy to pay your fare.
I rode in one of these last year, and asked the driver of his view. He could not praise it high enough. Comfort, running costs, reliability. I would like one of these as a personal car.
I have been a London cabbie for over 20 years , and I still have my Diesel taxi but will be coming off the road in the next couple of years , I was lucky enough to be given one of these vehicles for a week and I must say, that from the drivers perspective these vehicles are fantastic very smooth and comfortable to drive . Fuel economy is brilliant with a combination of petrol and electric giving a respectable range for the vehicle, the panoramic glass roof in the back is great for customers especially when I’m giving tours. The only downside is the lack of space in the drivers cabin and of course the price ! Nearly 70k including interest.
Not cheap, but the fuel savings (when working as normal) are about £200 a week so that goes a way to covering the HP or lease. It was a car I really enjoyed driving for a few days but could have used a few more storages holes
Taxi, I think there is a massive need for this a lot of thought has gone into that , I really like it and I've never said that about a Taxi before , Great review Matt 👌👍
Having owned one they are a good cab but not without their problems. You cannot drive one without have a 10mm spanner to do a soft reset as the cab has many glitches which causes it to go into limp mode etc. Windscreens crack regularly due to stress and rear doors drop on the hinges, also rear doors act as a sail on windy days and causes damage to themselves (public unaware) Range this time of year on electric is only about 45 miles with heaters on, cold feet nearly all day. Only colour with colour coded mirrors is black, pretty poor considering the cost. Turning circle feels tighter than the old tx! Good points regen braking saves brake pads massively 15k on old tx4 on these upto about 50k miles on a set tyres last well too. Pan roof is good but they do leak. They drive extremely well but are too much money for a job that is now sadly very difficult in these times. Passengers love them but I have friends who are still in the the trade and are stuck with a cab and £50 k debt and no work. Cab arrived 5-10 years too late unfortunately. I wish anyone still working one the very best of luck.
Why not a family version of it ? It would make a lot of sense. Big roomy family hauler. Inoffensive and friendly looking. Just few minor internal changes and it becomes a true family friend.
Consulting the sales of such vehicles as the FIAT Multipla, Honda F-RV, Nissan Cube, Toyota Rukus etc suggests it would not be much of a seller IMO... Tall, boxy cars that aren't SUVs just don't seem to sell very well. :( Perhaps being an EV would help the cool factor but I dunno...
If I could afford one I would certainly buy one, I've considered getting an old taxi as a personal vehicle, and I am a big SUV fan (hoping to one day have a Range Rover P38 or L302, and having previously had a Freelander), but SUVs are just out of my budget for buying a car (TX1 and some TX2s are not) so I currently drive a Nissan Largo which has the same kind of feel, with the high driving position and space available.
Agreed. But these cabs are just as big if not bigger than many 4x4s on the road, plus trendy London mums wouldn’t be seen dead driving one of those. They like their Range Rover vogues too much!
£60 K is good price, the 10 year age limit that many licensing authorities have that works out at £6 K per year plus any residual value. 25,000 mile service interval would mean 1 or 2 services per year one booked to coincide with the annual fitness for use test, when I was a cabby mine was working 24 hrs 6 days a week and 50,000 mile a year was easily done, servicing almost every 4 weeks. Would love to see a Limo one with a full hide and Axminster carpeted interior, an ideal wedding car, bride would have no worries over creasing the dress or Daddy bashing his top hat. An ideal family car if a member was disabled or one has 5 or 6 sprogs.

The basic model can be used as a SUV and then speced to the owners preference. Personally I would remove the divider behind the driver's seat then move the rear seats forward, add the barn doors from the van.
Yes if you can afford to shell out 70k? Give me a VW T5 crew cab any day. Cheaper, better looking, higher spec and will outlast one of these white Elephants no problem.
Very interesting indeed. Not sold on the range, though. I doubt this, in present form, would do well here. Wonder what it is like in snow and extreme cold. I suspect the gas engine would be running a lot. The electric range is right at the ragged edge for getting from one side of Toronto to the other and back in good weather and little traffic. In a snow storm, even with the gas engine running, the range for that drive could get dicey. By extreme weather, I mean -20 degrees and a foot of snow on the roads, a not unusual situation here.
You can really tell Geely had their hand in it, and that they took parts from the Volvo Parts bin. That steering wheel is a Volvo design, so is the infotainment system, the gear shift, the start stop switch, and i even think the whole seat?

That looks to have been designed with great care and attention to the public's needs. It does strike me that with the plethora of electrical and electronic devices there could be relatively high failure rates. I wonder if the design has anticipated that e.g. by using easily replaceable modules.
What a practical use of a hybrid system - there can be useful clean vehicles with electric power. There is hope yet, when the superpower SUV's have sold to the fashionistas perhaps all cars will be powered like this. BMW has this as an option on the i3 I believe, just to fleece a couple of grand more out of you, rather than actually sell too many practical electric cars (not cool), must have powweeer!
A Honda Ballard or “Bollard” because that’s what most old fogies smashed the bumpers into parking them...I don’t think ive seen one in 10 years.....even though they were quite a comm9n sight mid / late 80s.....nice review on the “E-Cab” ( cannot belive they didn’t call it that ) They seem to have covered all bases , maybe a bit more battery range 100 miles ? 63 seems silly low for cabs that do run out to the London Airports , I presume it was just down to space & costings, looks good though, and keeps the character of the older TX..👍🇮🇲
Watching that video you mentioned possible use as a camper. I though large family hauler. Any way you look at it that vehicle shows a lot more promise than being just a simple cab.
Around 63 miles for a full charge is what you’ll get in summer and lucky to get 30 in winter with the heating. You will save £100 / week on fuel on 500 miles a week.
Very Volvo-esque display and controls, but pretty cool. I would have thought that physical buttons would be better when you are fighting city traffic and listening to your fare. Matt, try an FX4 too, you'll love it!
The Icon spec I would imagine would be for private hire, such as pre-booked taxi/minicab, or perhaps wedding hire, or maybe even as a personal vehicle. If you have the money it could make a good family car as it's a seven seater, and I believe seven seater EVs are quite rare.
I have to say it's a fantastic looking machine and if it was offered with a practical power train for family use they might sell 10 fold. I might be in the minority but I still need to do 600 miles or so in a day so not for me. But with a nice trad power train it would be an amazing family car. Plus, how many actual taxi drivers will forgo air con and music to save electricity. Like taking a cab in the 70s, sweating to save some range :)
Furious Taxing coming soon... Edinburgh has got a fair few of these cabs, not had the pleasure of being a taxi passenger in one yet! I beleive the gear lever and the steering wheel and the LCD dials are Volvo as LEVC are part of Geely who Volvo are involved in.
What a brilliant vehicle. It’s quite a contrast to the taxis in our Missouri town, where most of the cabs are retired police cars (Ford Crown Victorias) painted yellow... also minivans, etc. by the way, I just finished watching the latest episode from HubNut, which ended with sleet. Ah well, ‘tis the season. :-/
Last 2 times I was in the US I was letting people skip ahead of me at taxi ranks so I could get one more ride in a Crown Vic! In Santa Fe it was an ex cop car with 400,000 miles! Not seen that one yet, or had sleet but it wont be far away
The futures bright ,the futures blue. Changing times indeed, wonder if we will ever fall in love with electric ,although environmental issues demand change ,sure we will miss the sight and sound of a V8 or V12 muscle car.
Oh, the way all three seats popped up in perfect unison when you let them go. This pleased me more than it should have, frankly.

If you have the money it could make a good family car as it's a seven seater, and I believe seven seater EVs are quite rare.
hopefully the drivers of these new cabs will be less rude
I... want to be a cabbie now!
Also, LEVC is owned by Geely, the company that owns Volvo - good news because you basically get a Volvo interior!
Hope the van version is out soon with the range extender and it's own generator
They are straight from Volvo, good parts so not a bad thing
Wow that car is huge!
You'll need to be able to cover the skyroof for Australia, as it'll get hot as Hades in summer- or any time of the year in Brisbane or north of it.
Or just not spec one in the first place🤷🏻♂️
@k halliday A solar panel can charge a regular 12V battery, but not a battery bank for an EV vehicle.
Taxis have indeed been used by various spies and detectives because they go unnoticed - John Drake in Danger Man, Callan, and in the Bond films 😎
I want a regular car with doors like that and those hubcaps. Like a Lincoln!
It's dark and he wearing sunglasses😁
Hit it!
Of is it a sly reference to The Blues Brothers? :)
@@jkk244 it's all because he's on A Mission From God...
you can get it as a van i think - there's the camper conversion right there...
The real reason Matt is wearing sunglasses, is he has started a new venture a Roy Orbison tribute act. The fleet won’t run itself.
covid restrictions on levc send matt out as mobile showroom for our cars hope you get some commision from this to keep the furious fleet going lol
This vehicle is brilliant, I agree it will make a great camper van
Fantastic review of an interesting vehicle
the shape reminds me of the old reliant metrocab
i like the van version they are making
The rear floor should pull out for washing. It does on the fairways
I dont think it does with out unscrewing those round metal things
Thank you. Gr8 video
Better turn your rover into an E V, it seems this is the way forward !!!! Great taxi great content 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧☕☕☕☕☕👍👍👍🔌🔌🔌STAY SAFE ......
I reckon a hydrogen conversion could happen one day!
@@furiousdriving just stick to the roads we dont want you flying anywhere!!!!! STAYING SAFE IS A BETTER IDEA
Cool boots you are wearing
Anonymity is why Prince Phillip used to drive one.
Did he pick up fares as well.
This is one of "those" cars I just want to have and play around with and not care about the driving 😂
Wow, you still have Crown Vic taxis, that's amazing! :)
Last 2 times I was in the US I was letting people skip ahead of me at taxi ranks so I could get one more ride in a Crown Vic! In Santa Fe it was an ex cop car with 400,000 miles! Not seen that one yet, or had sleet but it wont be far away
I find it very curious I want one.
Haha I love the Volvo inspired interior
More like Volvo parts bin than inspired. Both LEVC and Volvo share the same parent company; the 'range extender' engine is a Volvo unit too.
@@PaulBaker85 I know. Both owned by Geely
The futures bright ,the futures blue. Changing times indeed, wonder if we will ever fall in love with electric ,although environmental issues demand change ,sure we will miss the sight and sound of a V8 or V12 muscle car.
good review
John, it's you!!!
I will stick to my TX1 Nissan 2.7L diesel powered cab thank you.
not many years of operation left in those with the 14...? year limit...?
@@RWL2012 15 and that's in London.
@@TheDutyPaid ah yeah I forgot they're in some other places than London
Best cabs on the road. Back in the day.
There's also van version of this vehicle too of you're in the marked for a hybrid van
Toyota also use the same trum level name, Icon. A court case could soon be on the cards👨⚖️
A quite like it though maybe a family car version would be good.
Looks posh ! and very Range Rover like !
