Metropolitan Avenue was my station back in the day growing up. The old wooden cars with the big ceiling fans and wicker seats with about 50 coats of varnish. Good times unless it was in the middle of a hot summer day. Cheers.
@@keithbarbaro7590 Sure did (on occasion). In the summer we used to take it from the YMCA day camp on Fresh Pond Road (at the el station - really just a store front) to the Marcy Ave YMCA to go swimming in the pool. Good memories.

Back in August 2018 when this G.O happened, some of the (J) trains were signed up as (M) to Broad Street. One of which was an R179 even though they were still uncommon back then. I recall a lot or R143s being used that day as well, but not any R32s or R42s.
Since the R42s are dead and the R32s are dying a slow painful death, I suppose the MTA could give the Jamaica and Myrtle Ave lines CBTC once funding is available. Also makes me wonder where the R68(A)s will be once the R46s are dead.
QuarioQuario54321 That could happen, but the real issue is the outdated service patterns. Currently, J passengers coming from Queens all get off the J at Broadway Junction after being fed up with the slow and piss poor travel times between Jamaica Center and Broadway Junction. At that point, the J is a glorified shuttle between Broadway Junction and Chambers Street. Why? Most folks on the J are heading to Lower Manhattan and the J takes an indirect route (that misses many transfers) via the Lower East Side. To remedy this, two new connections are proposed: -A connection between the Broadway Line and the Fulton Street Line -A connection between the Fulton Street Line and the Jamaica Line, replacing the section of the Jamaica El between Broadway Junction and Cypress Hills. With this, the R and W would be rerouted to the IND Fulton Street Line, with the R going to Euclid Avenue and the W taking over the J route to Jamaica Center. All stations on the Jamaica El would be lengthened to longer trains. The J would now operate between Broadway Junction and 95th Street. The C route would then be express to Lefferts Blvd while the A can solely serve the Rockaways. To ensure reliability on the new route, the R and W would now service the Astoria Line, which should be extended to LaGuardia Airport. The N would be rerouted to 96th Street. To replace service on Queens Blvd, a new K train would operate between 71st Avenue and World Trade Center, allowing for the M to operate via 63rd Street, the C to go via 8th Avenue express to 205th Street and the D via 8th Avenue local to 168th Street. This move would allow for faster service between Jamaica and Lower Manhattan, better quality of life for East New York residents, more reliable service in Astoria, Bay Ridge, and on the Broadway Line, and better service options for Queens Blvd, Washington Heights, and Bronx customers since they will have direct access to both 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue from almost any station. Fulton Street and 8th Avenue Service would be more reliable.
JeremiahC99 Both of these connections seem to require something that doesn’t currently exist to be built. Overall it would just be easier to put CBTC and then travel times would improve.
QuarioQuario54321 Thats the point. CBTC on the Jamaica Line will do little to solve the anemic issues of the Jamaica Line. The issue with the line is the line itself, since the line is completely outdated. Skip stop service? Why can’t they just cancel it already. Also, why is a 100 year old useless and noisy curve at Crescent Street still existent driving the neighbors nuts. No wonder the J has low ridership. My new projects will alleviate these issues.
JeremiahC99 There also isn’t really any room to do those without either demolishing a bunch of buildings or disrupting service patterns for years while construction is going on before establishing the new normal.
@@TheRailLeaguer Or why not shift the Jamaica Line past the Junction onto Jamaica Av with a sound proof, elevated viaduct so as to eliminate the sharp curve at Crescent St and improve overall running time? (and maybe even finally have a third track from 121st St to Alabama Av)
I remember when they did this for 2 non-consecutive weekends back in the summer of '18 - my Sunday M job being reassigned to an ad hoc J job both times. I hated having to operate all the way to Broad, and finish after the last Q38 leaves Met! Summer 2020, we could see encores!
It's amazing all the track, crossovers, switches and signalling systems. What are the two rails between the main rails? They're always rusty. I love the old buildings so close to the tracks, too. That's just as interesting as the trains. I wonder what it's like inside them when a train goes by? Some look like apartments.
I believe you have 1 of the best if not the best channels on TH-cam whenit comes to content and While I love most of your videos and your channel as a whole, this video and some others have a lot of wind noise that really take away from the video and cause me to immediately click off and move on to the next video. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way. I know that the length of time a person watches a video counts towards the amount of revenue earned. That being said, you should really consider a better microphone and or a wind screen.
NYC TransitRailFan The R143s were solely assigned to the L train, but are assigned to the J/Z service every once in a while. As for why, at this point, the 100 R179s for J/Z service isn’t enough, so they need some R160s as well. Those cars are also rotated around on M service as well (except for 64 R160s 8313-8376. Those are used for L service, but can be seen on J and M service occasionally).
@AndyPlayzHD R211 will go on the N Q and W lines because they have R46. :) That is cool. R160 were bad in the N and W. R211 will look cooler in the Broadway line

Legit! R179s!!!! Plz make more! theses are the best this is why you inspired me to make transit vids thank you so much
Why didn't they sign them up as the M to Broad instead of the J since there was no programming for the J to Met Av?
Probably bc the M doesn't run to Broad St, but then again they could just sign it as a J going inbound.
The Political Railfan they have the J to metropolitan Av Now
They clearly didn't back then and they have M programmed to Broad when it used to travel down the Nassau St line.
The Political Railfan obviously

It would’ve been dope to have the (J) with the (M) line up(announcements after myrtle)
14:45 well that's something you dont see everyday.
@@DerrickTan74 they don't run on the M.
It's sad for me not to see R42s on the "J" anymore.
Why does the J have different Fleet cars. Why can't they just have R179's and not R160 or R143

But why the r42s are dead and the r32 are dying slow
gaming with sha Old age and the fact that they are being replaced by the R179 and R211 cars.
The r211 is delayed slightly because Japan has tons of corona virus cases,so expect them to arrive in late July or later, until further notice.
