The grooves are a nice visual element for what is otherwise a very simple design. I would have added the groove to the front edge of the "shelf", just to give the illusion of continuation.
The groove idea could be taken in many different directions with some creativity. You could do a double line. You could do thinner lines on a router table (I know, not exactly beginner). Lots of possibilities using one's imagination.

Maybe just me, but I skimmed this video and still couldn't work out what was made. Far too many videos on TH-cam desperate to keep the viewer watching by not flagging up at the start what the end product is. How many hours are wasted on TH-cam listening to "please Like, Comment and Subscribe".
