I think this is a beautiful space. These people did a wonderful job.
As an architect/engineer I am always happy to see affordable homes such good looking
They did a brilliant job and proved you don't need expensive materials. For personal taste, I would've painted the plywood walls & ceiling white to reflect even more light around the room. It would complement the wooden features and the black window frames too. Very very well done.
And it doesn't look "cheap" at all.
painted plywood looks way more cheaper. they did it right by combining natural finish materials such as wood, metal, glass and stone/cement. Rest is properly is in neutral colors of white and black.
Oleg Tsoi 'painted plywood looks way more cheaper' I disagree, we have painted plywood in our property and it looks slightly textured compared to the rest of the wall which is plastered & papered. I'm a photographer, white ceilings are better for bouncing soft light around on the subjects. It would complement the other interior features.

WOW! Plywood can be stained, or papered over, if they desire. This is an awesome feat, with a fantastic look!
Or if in a couple of years they want plaster after all, that would be the easiest room to overboard in history 😆 the whole room is a fixing lol
-20,000 pounds sterling (or $32,592.90) still seems like a bundle.
-The contrast of new and old on the exterior is excellent, but some people don't get it.

It's a beautiful space but it is impractical for a kitchen because the room surfaces are not sealed. Raw wood and concrete should be expected to stain easily and that cooktop/stove has no ventilation. Cooking steam usually contains oils which deposit onto the surfaces it contacts. The former kitchen was repurposed into what? How is the new room's temperature controlled? Are the walls/ceiling insulated? If so, with what?
with the materials they used to build this i think £20,000 is far too much for this

What did you use between the metal sheets and the plyboard?
It never ceases to amaze me how critical, judgmental, rude, crude and insensitive people can be. Just because you have said construction of your new living space is complete and useable does not say that there are not finishing details you are aware of and will complete as time and money allow. As with all structures of a non-metal construction, plywood will burn, but wood makes good insulation and is a poor conductor of electricity. I have utilized plywood and particle board as interior walls. I moisture conditioned the wood with a mixture of oils and real turpentine (turpentine opens the pores of wood to allow oils to penetrate) which also brings out the natural color of the wood. Once fully absorbed and dry, I applied a light coat of stain. Lastly I applied a light coat of polyurethane to seal and protect the wood. A light coat for easy removal after 5 or more years to remoisturize the wood as in first step. This gives a long life to all woods. Concrete floors, walls, countertops are common place. People choosing this material know to seal it. So ignore all the nay sayers and critics, they are either jealous of what you have accomplished, too lazy to do anything other than try to rain on others parades or don't care enough for their spouse to do what you have done for your wife and as a family. I love what you have done and your choice of windows. Pat yourself on the back and take pride in what you have built.

I love the taps. So minimal.
uncoated/unpainted plywood is blotting paper to fats and oil vapours from cooking and concrete floor always wears to dust. Nice shed/workshop.

Brilliant idea, & workmanship for less one gets more. Furthermore, later on they could place some lower cabinets for her to reach plus I would paint the entire ceiling and walls white in order to obtain even more light. Nevertheless, lovely done.

The EPA has classified formaldehyde as a probable human carcinogen. Moreover, it can off-gas from the boards into the air, silently polluting your home’s air for years (the off-gassing rate is especially intense in new materials, and in hot, humid weather). Long-term inhalation of formaldehyde vapors can cause fatigue, respiratory irritation, impaired lung function and _allergic skin reactions._
• *Conventional plywood* is made of thin veneers of wood that are bonded together with formaldehyde resins.
• The majority of *hardwood plywood,* used indoors for cabinetry and paneling, is composed of a core layer faced with higher quality woods using urea-formaldehyde (UF) glue.
• *Softwood plywood* is used for exterior and structural applications (walls, floors, roofs), and its adhesive consists of phenol formaldehyde (PF) resin. PF, a more expensive, water-resistant glue, off-gasses at a considerably slower rate than UF glues. “So, we tend to use the worst products indoors, where they can do the most harm,” says John Bower of the Healthy House Institute.
• *Particleboard,* used primarily indoors for furniture and cabinets, is made from wood chips and other plant fibers bonded with formaldehyde-based resins.

Fortunately, a new generation of products are being created with little or no formaldehyde, giving you the potential to replace plywood, particleboard, plastics and other synthetic materials in cabinets and furniture throughout your house.
• Choose certified-sustainable hardwood cabinets and furniture utilizing traditional joinery and stainless steel drawer bottoms, salvaged wood, UF-free fiberboard or baked-enamel metal, which emit less chemical vapor into the air. Or, reject permanent cabinetry altogether, and use freestanding hardwood tables, shelves and hooks.
• Choose formaldehyde-free medium density fiberboard (MDF) in place of plywood for outdoor areas. Fiberboard can be made from recycled wood, paper or plant fiber waste, which is compressed and molded into boards without adhesives.
• Look for an “exterior glue” stamp on regular plywood, which means it contains PF instead of UF glues.
• If particleboard can’t be avoided, finish with a low-toxicity sealant (latex paint won’t seal in vapors).

Looks cool, but I'm not sure that plywood would pass fire safety regulations where I live...
They make little mention of the fact that it is not tied into the house,you have to go outside the house to enter the addition. Would have been nice if it was an extension where you walk thru into it from the house. It's less usable like this,at least to me.
There is an opening from the original house into the new extension - you can see this at 4.38.

hmm i love the look of the plywood, but its more expensive than using normal plasterboard ? (least it is here)
i have never seen plywood used to hang a picture. Yes i know there are lots of types of plywood, they grade them A-D, those are not the cheap faced ones, more likely middle o the road where it has a good face and a shit face (good face out front).
Still, the price for a sheet of shit ply here is $35 vs a sheet of plaster is $20
Here in NZ we just use a pin to hang it on the wall. If its heavy we either put a hook in where there is a stud, or use a plaster screw (which has a plastic sheeth that expands to grip plaster when doing it up)

on Jan. 3rd 2017 is the equivalent to $24,533.90 USD Great space for that kind of money.

Its nice,But i couldn't help notice the gaps in the walls at certain points and you can see daylight,Surely this is letting air in?
They should tread the wood with a varnish of some sort,After a while of cooking and stuff that wood is going to get pretty nasty inside.

Eleonore Bon we have right not to like it. To me, I love the exterior but it won't give me anything good with WA weather in Australia. Interior looks a bit bland though.

No it doesn’t lol. Its a nice extension, maybe even nicer as a small budget house by itself, but lets be honest, it definitely does not look like it belongs there at all, doesn’t match the main house, nor the surroundings even the slightest.

Plywood is full of glue and formaldehyde which can make you sick ans need more than a wheelchair. Finition quality seems poor also. I like the outdoor metal sheet wall though.

the build and finish quality is poor and, cant hold good valuation to sell on ? .And large percentage may be ok .the rest let down bye attention to detail . the bbc should AXA THE PROGRAM.
I see some finishes which aren't perfectly finished and no vent hood for the stove but other than that I love it.
