I enjoyed Agent Shadow a lot more than I was expecting. The first roll I shot at box speed developed in FX-39II turned out amazing. I tried over-exposing and pulling in development with ID-11 (1+1), and the results were muddy low contrast and with a lot of grain. As soon as I went back up to box speed with 510-Pyro turned out amazing again. The results were okay with a one-stop under and pushed with Ilfotec HC. But when two stops were under and pushed with XT-3, the results were amazing, grain, yes, but nothing over the top, plus the contrast was perfect. Now I was also shooting indoors with plenty of light.
if it's anything like Kentmere film, Matt, it will lack some of that contrast that you'd see in a film like HP5+ or Acros. Kentmere tends to look a bit flat even in bright daylight. But, it's an OK film and it's cheap which is why people buy it. I like shooting with HP5+, XP2 and Foma when I can't get the others. Fomapan is nice and cheap as well. A little more expensive than Kentmere, depending on where you buy it and it's a good film. If you want to shoot some really contrasty (though fairly grainy) B&W film, try some JCH400. That's Bellamy Hunt's signature film. It's old speed camera/surveillance film and was used in low light situations in Japan. Bit pricey, though, but if you like that high contrast and grainy look, it's the one to go for. Though, you maybe able to control the grain, somewhat, depending on what developer you use.
I have exactly the same problem as you with B&W. I do have plans to try out home developing film in general starting with B&W, but I don't have enough experience shooting B&W film. I have shot three rolls, that I will be developing myself very soon. I shot them thinking more about the framing, the shape and the details of my subjects, than colors, but I have no feel for how they are going to turn out. Agent Shadow look fine to me. I think the best shot was of the dummy, and I think that indicates, that Agent Shadow will do very nicely for portraits.
I backed the briefcase reward for Agent Shadow and the packaging is next level cool. As far as the film goes Kentmere does lack contrast compared to HP5.
Gosh that package design is something else.
Also, love the restaurant shots and That Alleyway!
Yeah fantastic box and canister design! Thank you! I am keen to shoot some more B&W now I've done this video ha ha
@@MattLovesCameras me too! I just got my first ever B&W bill shock and will be sticking to XP2 from here on out. Love the look but oooft

Very cool Alex!
Great info.
I've bought a roll of this and looking for inspiration, so a bit more light needed?
Nice! If I was going to push it 2 stops again I’d rate it at 1250 not 1600. I’ve heard other people have got great results at box speed though!
I have some ordered. Mostly because the packaging is next level and I want it sitting on my shelf. But I’m excited to shoot it and home develop.
Damn, could've sold you some of mine Naomi 😂 Yeah you have a pretty cool home dev set up! Jelly!

Thanks Carl! I’m keen to get into my HP5 and Acros supplies and see if I can learn to love B&W 😂

Great point NP! Other than my dummy friend, I didn't do any portraits. I might shoot another roll at ISO1250 and include some people shots
I use the Nice Film Club in New York City processes and scans C-41 and b&w for the same price. E-6 and ECN-2 are more expensive, though.
Ooo nice! Ha ha. One lab here in Australia charged the same for c41 / e6 / B&W but with most the latter 2 are much more expensive
where's Marshall? A perfect black and white subject for the next roll :)
Ha ha I took pics of him but they didn’t make the video!
Personally i love inky blacks! Ill be pushing my next roll a couple of stops.
Hope you get good results! I’m keen to try it again rating it at 1250 pushing 2 stops.
I backed this, and i hoped it was Hp5+ though than a kentmere
To keep the costs down you’d guess it would be kentmere rather than one of their premium lines

Hmm Maybe I should bust out my Acros and HP5 🤔
@@MattLovesCameras ooh acros is noice. Hp5 shows contrast when you push it. T Max 400 is also a banger at 1600.
