@@alistairhackney I thought that you may be giving some sort of reasonable reply but instead you've given an insight into yourself....just got it... Snowflake, this is exactly what you'd do.
I know we don't need to hunt to eat these days , but as fieldsports fans know it's about more than shooting, as in angling its about being there not , and luckily for me about just catching fish ,I respect Mr Packham for his knowledge and love of nature, but if we did need to hunt , kill, cook Mr packham would probably be sick of nettles quite quickly, 😂
The thing with fly fishing; it's done with a soft approach, disturbing nature as little as possible so as to fool the fish, which are hopefully returned unharmed and the birds and mammals go about their business around you. This is very different from an intention to drive and panic wildlife to the position where you can kill them. Even with stalking, the intention is to kill and there is nothing soft and at one with nature, about the sound of a gun.
@@DavidCESmith You do know he will ban fishing also , in fact all kind of humans in nature are their dream . Look upon nature from outside and their animal friends , while large international food corporations use the same areas and pay them for it as part of their work to make it so .
@@DavidCESmith You really need to educate yourself on the importance of managing the countryside. Especially deer. And stalkers understand deer and being one with nature more than pretty much anyone.
@@robbiecarswell4566 I'm a fly fisher and have been for over 30 yrs. I am completely in agreement with the importance of managing and protecting the countryside (including the waterways). I have spent time fishing on waters managed by some estates that also provide shooting and stalking. I also understand the need for culling. Killing things with a gun is not for me, I don't enjoy my time in the countryside when the guns are going off and avoid them if I know it's going to happen. If people want to go shooting, so be it. But as I've written in my reply to another, some estates, and hopefully very few, are suspected of endorsing the extermination of wildlife that is now very rare. If this is so, it is not unreasonable to put the case that they are managing the countryside for profit and the pleasure of a very few and not for the sake of the countryside itself. Those who value the countryside, it's associated sports, environment, traditions, history and it's future should be united in doing so but these type of issues are dividing and not uniting. I'm sorry, but I have no intention of educating myself in the stalking of deer and I certainly wouldn't suggest that you need to educate yourself in the things that I do. Sitting by a river as the light goes, waiting for the sea trout to move up into the pool with otter cubs playing a couple of metres away from you and then casting into the dark with the bats over the water, listening for movement and your senses switched on full may also qualify for being at one with nature.
@@MrPh30 Thanks for your polite reply. I understand what you are saying but an end to the disappearance of rare raptors on shooting estates and a believable input from the shooting industry to not only stop this but to support some sort of recovery can only unite more people who are involved in country pastimes and go a long way to nullifying support for more extreme views. What I haven't said in other posts on this subject but I'm happy to say to you, is that those of us who pay for an EA license, club memberships and day tickets and those who pay for other country sports are at least providing some funds that are hopefully used to improve the environment and there appears to be a growth of those who don't contribute anything, not only disrespecting the countryside by trampling anywhere they choose and leaving their rubbish (and other destructive activities) but they also seem completely oblivious to any work that has gone on or any necessity or responsibility to protect it.

I'm surprised to see clay shooting on this channel. Even more surprised to see participants wearing BASC shirts. I had thought that clay shooting was generally done by those who are against unnecessary killing.
Your surprise and assumption is wrong. Some clay shooters may well have no inclination to shoot quarry. Some may even find it an anathema Some quarry shooters may or may not shoot clays. Some shoot clays outside the game seasons for practice. There is quite an overlap. My point was that you don't know much about the subject so your surprise is unfounded.
I've nothing against gun sports that don't involve killing things. Unfortunately I can't understand adults who get pleasure out of killing as I would expect them to gain some respect for nature as they moved through and out of childhood. Maybe it makes them feel good about themselves.... who knows? It's nice to be in the countryside, feel the air, hear the birds and observe nature but not when the guns are going off. I used to buy clothing and equipment from retailers that also sell to the shooting community but no more. I'd like to see Hen Harriers and Golden Eagles again, given the chance but we all know there may be morons out there trying to destroy them, and what for? To provide more cannon fodder for the blood thirsty? Chris Packham may or may not go over the top sometimes but at least he is passionate about life and not death. Congratulations to Amber Rutter.
