  • Books I’ve Loved - Alain de Botton | Brought to you by Audible (audible.com/tim).
Welcome to another episode of The Tim Ferriss Show, where it is my job to sit down with world-class performers of all different types-from startup founders and investors to chess champions to Olympic athletes. This episode, however, is an experiment and part of a shorter series I’m doing called “Books I’ve Loved.” I’ve invited some amazing past guests, close friends, and new faces to share their favorite books-the books that have influenced them, changed them, and transformed them for the better. I hope you pick up one or two new mentors-in the form of books-from this new series and apply the lessons in your own life.
Alain de Botton (@alaindebotton) is the founder and Chairman of The School of Life. He is a writer of essayistic books that have been described as a “philosophy of everyday life.” He’s written on love, travel, architecture, and literature, including the titles How Proust Can Change Your Life and The Consolations of Philosophy. His books have been bestsellers in 30 countries.

Wish Tim would make a new intro/outro.

Silence would be better than what he currently has. It’s def in the top 10 most obnoxious podcast intro songs, and doesn’t even fit his brand.

@@AustenSummers how does it not fit his brand? It's precisely on brand for him. Plus it's not 80/20 to change the song at the intro of his podcast. There's no leverage to it, so why would he do it?

@@garrettk7166 The excerpts from movies are fitting, but the music component is extremely loud, annoying party music that doesn't fit his analytical, pensive conversations and solo talks.

@@garrettk7166 That music primes you for doing burpees, not for listening to someone carefully choose words when speaking haha

My favorite quote from Schopenhauer states that the capacity to tolerate noise is inversely proportional to the intelligence of the individual. Glad for his sake that he didn't have to experience today's cacophony. Thanks for this series; I've gotten a lot out of it.

That's another problem. When you go for a walk, just walk and do some soul searching... "The unexamined life is not worth living." Listening to a book is not reading a book. Big difference. I don't understand why people think that listening equals reading.
