I think I got you all beat,I am 45 & I just started taking Hockey instructions for beginners,I haven"t skated in 20 years,My first day I did great,I had a blast,I can"t wait for the next class!!!! You are never too old,Trust me!!!!
I'm 19 and I just started, I'm having a blast and I'm improving everyday! It's never too late :)
Vlad Serb 21 now
How are you nowadays?
¿Are you still playing? and how much have you improved
Never too late? You got that right...I'm 47 and have only been skating a couple of months. I'm working on my basic skills now and am going to sign up for the next hockey training camp at my local rink when the next 8-week class starts. Like Andy Dufresne said in Shawshank Redemption..."Get busy living or get busy dying."
Jeffrey Hall u still playing ?
I'm 9 and I think this was great! Usually I watch hockey now I play, you were a awesome teacher!
I'm currently 16 and I had never played either until I started in Nov 2012. I can already feel myself improving with every practice and game. I was nervous at first and didn't know how to stop or really skate, but the hard work you put into the sport will really pay off in the end. Go for it, you'll love it alot!
Are you still playing??
I'm 31 female and learning some skating moves, right now leaning how to go backwards just like this video I cracked it.. at first I just did backwards c cuts, now I do it properly. I only started 3 months ago. I'm from England, and moved to Canada, as hockey is huge here.. I go to the rink once a week with my 5 year old daughter. So much fun
These are solid videos. I'm 35 years old and just started playing rec league hockey 2 years ago. I've learned a lot from watching this videos and just getting out on the ice and trying things. My advice to everyone is never be afraid to fail. In two years I've learned tons and if you're just starting out I think you will be pleased with your results and how well your skills will progress. Greatest sport in the world!!!
+Matt Wigim I agree, I'm 31 and started skating 3 months ago, and I was afraid to fall, and super tried to avoid it.. up until I was learning to skate backwards and I fall quite a bit.. but I'm getting better and better, and have just about cracked skating backwards..
i’m 21, was never allowed to play hockey growing up but finally making the push to join an intramural group and hope to join an actual team once i’m more comfortable, still a super helpful tutorial even tho it’s 15 years old!
I'm starting at 24 and I just have so much fun on the ice. I love the sport so I'm just going to continue having fun with it. This video was an excellent supplement to my classes.
I did all of it and my tryouts were 2 days ago and I made the team! We did scrimmages and the coach loved my backwards skating. She said I would be perfect on the team. I also watched till 3 am 3 days ago to find out how to do other stuff! Thank you!!!
Video short and sweet. For beginners..need one like this for different step by step on each tip.
@Kimchi4Korea It would be similar with inline skates, the difference would be that inline skate wheels don't have the same lateral movement as skate blades, so you might have to point your heel / toes more.
26 years old and just starting in a beer league in California.
I started when I was 19. I'm 21 now. Haven't really played hockey yet because I haven't had enough opportunity to learn and practice all the skating that you need to know to play, but it's almost never too late to start into skating and hockey.
I've never played either but it's never too late to join in, so long as you're actually committed to playing! I'm looking at starting next season, and from what I've been told, once you've got the gear and can pay the ice time, it's never too late, because no one really expects you to make the NHL, so they're cool...
I have been playing ball hockey for 2 years now and my coach asked if I played ice hockey and I don't so im trying to learn how to skate before next winter ive only been on the ice around 3-5 times and I can skate really well already thanks to your vids
@monkeyman0077 Yeah when you glide you are mostly on both edges, putting a bit more weight on your inside edges. To do turn at the end you need to learn backwards crossovers, there is a really good video explaining everything on here.
nice little video here, i was always trying to figure out how to effectively skate backwards. I play ice hockey for fun, but I have never got any real hockey training. I might definately check out your channel
Thanks so much. I thought that your explanations demonstrations were really easy to follow. Can't wait to get back on the ice and get to it!
Thanks for the series of video's. Very helpful for a 40yr old aussie just taking up hockey!
@mrbalaboo no but thanks for asking :D we are just a couple of guys who love hockey!
Joke you not, haven't been skating more than 5 hours. I'm 2/3s through the instructions of this video. I can do the middle part, but I'll work towards the end part when I go to the rink next!!! (prev. exp. w/ inline skating helped my overall ice-skating exp.)
HowtoHockeydotcom thanks!!!! I mean it.
Short and sweet--and very helpful. Keep up the great posts for beginners!
just starting at 17
same
STICKIEE 20 now
holy you’re like 24 now
I'm 44 and I'm learning ice hockey.
@@johnshafer7214 26 i feel u
Thanks, glad to be of assistance :)
Never too late. I'm 36 and I'm still learning everyday.
@tamukadam Thanks, we have gotten a few requests, we will try to get a video up soon.
I dead nervous about stepping on the ice today but for y first time ever skating I didn't need the boards could keep the puck with me, definitely gonna spend lots of time working on this though
I loved skating as a child, and although I admire the artistic feel with figure skating, I find hockey just as complex and interesting. I was never too good, and I'm starting again at 16! I'm hoping it's not too late to pull off some spins and backwards crossovers though!
23 and just starting loving it!
Love to hear it! Get as much ice time as you can and work on your shot and stickhandling at home!
Go for it :P At an older age I find people pick it up a lot easier, I'm 14, And I've skated 5 years, I watch people who are about 16+ And they skate quite regularly, And I enjoy watching them get better and better, and 80% of them are at the same level as me (Not bragging at my skating skill), Hope you get into it :)
@chihockey7 I got mine at Sportchek during the Olympics, not to sure where you can get them now, maybe ebay or Amazon, do some google searching and see what you find.
just do it, im 25 and just now really putting time and effort into learning the skills to play in adult leagues, go to as many public skates as u can afford and if u get the gear to to stick times and there you can really work on what u want without a bunch of kids in the way.
Your videos are very helpful. Going to try this next time I go skating!
Great explanation and demonstration! It's a lot easier for me to grasp.
your videos have been an inspiration i am a self taught 17 year old hockey player :D and i learned through your videos and others thank you :D
Great job explaining it. Can't wait to try it!
i must say this is the best video i have seen on skating backwards :D thank you very much sir
Im 11 and i play for the Malmö Red Hawks academy. Malmö is in sweden and we learn to skate backward differently. But this also seems like a good way to skate
+Archie Delafield which way do u learn?
+Nicola Packnoski this I believe is the most effective, and efficient way to skate backwards
awesome. Thanks for the tips man. Good vid!
The best instruction I can find
That's how I learned to do that, easy and takes a little time.
Wow thanks... It helped me a lot !! Especially when I'm the only girl in my hockey classes --
Great vids and teaching techniques....any chance you can do a vid on backwards crossovers, u did a backward crossover in the video of 'How To Hockey Stop for Beginners!' @ 2:03...really struggling with this
Thanks so much for your videos! I know how to skate but I wanna learn to cross over and go bachwards this helps!!!
useful, trying out for my national team lol really need to get this right :P
Can you make a video on how to do crossovers forward and backward please
Holy shit, this actually works. I'm 27 and have only been skating this winter.. solid instruction, gents!
@0DemonChild0 Dude, Im 23 and i started playing ice hockey 5 weeks ago, Id never ever ice skated an im a total novice, you'll be suprised ow fast you pick things up :) Go for it dude!
Ive found a lot of videos on how to skate backwards, but is there any video out there on ho to transition from forward to backwards?
For some reason when I started ice skating I found it way easier to skate backwards really fast than skate forwards at all, it's quite intresting
thanks for the vid ! hope i can learn
thanks alot it really helped imporve my skating (backwards)
Everyone makes it look so easy! D:
@chihockey7 You can probably still get them at Sportchek, at least for now, thanks to the Juniors. Saw lots of Team Canada jerseys there, maybe they have practice jerseys as well.
i agree with u man im 14 and starting too
great stuff thanks!
This is great for beginners but I'm hoping for a little more advanced tips, like crossing over and transitioning from forward to backward etc. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a good video for that?
im a self taught hockey player in a country with a very small hockey scene, your videos help me alot
Is it alright if I'm 13 and starting hockey? Lol I'm afraid it's too late 😂
It's never too late, I'm 21 and I just started a year ago and i'm already playing in a mens league. Just get yourself some skates that fit nice and find some public skate times at a rink close by. Even if you're a slow learner you have tons of time to get on a school team or rink club.
No way! Never let that sort of thinking hold you back from what you're interested in. Throughout your life you should always be trying new things.
I'm 19 and I just started learning how to skate. Even worse, I'M CANADIAN. I'm expected to skate. :P
Definitely not too late!
Im 13 and i cant even brake yet. But i no how to skate normally
I'm also thirteen and I really want to join in hockey
Ok so this is not a question specificaly for going backwards but more about skating overall. Is there any difference in skating with goalie skates and normal player skates or can you apply all these tipps to both?
If not do you know a good site or video where one culd learn more about goalie skating?
(I have skated before but only a few times when I was in school and when I was a kid), I am 21 years now but hey its never to late to learn new things ey? :)
i figure skated all the time two years ago, now i’m trying hockey
You are very good man thank you!
im 20 and i just started - lol you wont be good when you start - but you will learn alot when you play and improve much quicker than you think.
can anyone breakdown how to do the turn at the end? Also, when you are just gliding are you resting on both the inside and outside of your blades? Thanks, I am new.
Kickass. Same here!
how do you sharp your blades? flat or with this little groove? which one is better?
What skates do you use? Are the Bauer Supreme One.6 suited for someone of your level? Thanks :)
@howtohockeydotcom
do you know a place that stil sells mission skates? they look pretty good to skate on
no snow where i live in aus, but ive always wanted to know how to skate backwards lol
Thanks SO much.. You helped me a lot!!(:
Lol. End cards kinda ruin the final text
It seems like i grasped this concept, but is there a faster way of doing it?
Can u teach us how to iceskate badly like a typical beginner would falling backwards almost and losing balance and panicking...because its often the opposite that will get u skating like a pro and the skate badly video would help beginners realize what their doing wrong
good, i love it thankS!!!
just starting at 23
Hey,!
Can you do this with inline blades? ?
Hey guy I want to do ice hockey but my parent said it to far and I can't make a commitment to play and I live in brentwood and dublin is 45 mins away so they say that far but do you guy have anything that will help me convince my parent to let me do ice hockey
howd u get open ice like tat? sickvideo :)
@mrbalaboo IMO, anyone that's this good at skating on ice, is at the professional level. I see these kinds of folks (as well as the other HOTSHOT speed/dance/extreme skaters) locally, and believe you me, they deserve the credit of the term 'Pro'. If you've ever been to an ice rink, you know who I'm talking about. They're the few, the fast, the skilled, VERY talented, and especially: experienced!
I want to play house league hockey I am okay at skating backwards but can't go very fast or do the backwards cross over I am just afraid I am not good enough at skating backwards
I find when teaching hockey players the biggest difference in skating backwards is posture and arms. As a Figure Skater you must have a straight back and ALWAYS have you arms out.
I'm so confused. I can do this with ease but I just watched another video and it said not to do this and actually 'push off' with the forward foot akin to going forward as the whole "s curve" thing is wrong. Also how do you do the 'crossover'? Everytime I bring my feet in line while going backwards it feels like i'm going to trip myself over. I've only ice skated about 3-4 but I used to roller blade alot so I pick up on things really fast.
can you guys teach the backwards cross
One tip they forgot, don't go on your toes one bit, was skating backwards fast today and I hit a patch of missing ice and went on my toes, I fell on my knee and now I have a sprained knee.
is this a rink in Bracebridge?
Question!!
When I push off the boards to start learning, it looks like my left skate isnt staying straight. Is my balance off? Is it my skates? Thanks for your help!!
You're skates could be to big or there not tight enough. When you walk with them do they bend or twist? You always want your skates to be nice and tight. Ankle support is a must also!!
Calm grammar Nazi it was auto correct
No, you are. Now you can't even read! So pathetic.
Ooooh sorry my bad hahaha I thought you were calling me a homo lol no I'm not even a guy I got nothing against homosexuals. Haha this was a good one cheers best of luck
@Calm Down You're a fricken idiot. Go back to your basement and be a troll. The lady was trying to help me out. Fricken loser.
How different is hockey skating compared to figure skating?
Man that was awesome... i'm learning tho' ^ ^ !
where did you get the jersey? i want to get a russia one like that
totali agree with you.
guys im going to buy an ice skating shoe . what do u recommend for me as im 16 and i wear 39-40
does this works with inline?
Keep your shoulders above your kness?? I couldn't do that even if I tried not to!
Is it ok if I'm 15 and I am just about to start hockey?
It's never too late!
Only problem will be that the other one's playing hockey since they're kids will be much more experienced and better, but ypu just have to train hard, and it will come :)
I live in the Philippines anyways, not as hard as catching up to people in Canada for example! Thanks, I'll remember that! :)
Rina Concepcion I've been coaching in Denmark and some of the players have only played for three to five years. Some of my U20 players who have only played three years are very good! I was surprised how much you can improve even at such a complex sport like hockey!
I'm a girl and I don't play hockey but I wish I do, but I just preserve hockey skates then figure skating skates
What an itelligent comment.
I used to be a whirlwind on the ice years and years ago, but now I can't get my balance back to what it was. Partly because I don't want to fall hah.. It's been about 10 years since I last fell over.
Screw it, I'm just going for it tomorrow :/
Can someone help me??
I can tie my skates tight but after about 10 minutes into practice either one of my skates gets loose, it makes me uncomfortable because I feel like it's going to fall off when I fall or get pushed to the ground.
Get hockey socks. They work well
Try a lace hook. It worked for me. And good socks make a difference too.
have you had a professional fit your skayes for you?
try taping the skates laces once they're tied
taping the laces? You mean tie them around back... You don't tape them
Another tip for skating backwards:
Put the weight in the front of your skate, not on the heels.
Not in a hockey team but starting at 12 is it to late?
LR4010 you can never start too late!
Jack Gonzales what bout age 21...
Thanks
I’m 30 and just started couple months ago. Don’t ever have that mentality Kid.
