Darklurker is the final fragment of Manus. All the other fragments left the dark in search of power, while this fragment is Manus's final aspect; it just wants to be left alone in the dark, but you keep invading it's space by lighting those torches in the chasm.

But Lucifer was the angel of light who refuse to acept humanity, and Darklunker's, Manus, furtive pigmyn, is the angel of dark, who shared he's soul to create humanity but was betraided by his son. Even being a creature of abyss Darklunker's soul isn't dark as anothers cretures of abyss. So I would say that Darklunker is the part of Manus that just wanna be left alone in darkness. The similarities are there, but darklurkers soul is light unlike creatures tainted by the abyss that have tainted souls, the life drain like some other boss items could be considered a trade for a special soul not necessarily the soul crafted into a new item. There is a theory that dark lurker is a new creature altogether that is a being of light instead of darkness that preyed on the dark. Design wise it's also similar to Murgos Wet Nurse from Bloodborne, and the angels from DS3 which could symbolise it being something left over from a separate cycle or even that it's not belonging to the world. The reality is we'll sadly probably never really know what darklurker is or was
It should be noted too that Darklurkers soul doesn't even to refere to itself, it refers to dark chasm itself having been the remains of an ancient being which just adds a bit more mystery
I personally believe dark lurker as it's name suggests has been there for a long time and lifedrain was taught to velka to kill the gods so maybe here we have our teacher or vice versa
My interpretation of Lifedrain Patch is that it creates a temporary breach into the Abyss (like the portals Darklurker makes). While connected, dark spews out and damages anyone who comes close to the breach. Remember, the only reason we can survive in the Dark Chasms of Old is because we are not physically there, we invade as a purple phantom. Also, the Art of Lifedrain was not about taking health in DS1, it was about stealing humanity from NPC via the Dark Hand grab. The portals are orange because it is a fire attack and as assistance to the player to telegraph that the triple Forbidden Sun attack is coming. Perhaps Darklurker creates a portal linking to the Old Chaos or the Sun itself in order to bring forth the only fire attack it has in its arsenal. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but there are *Four* kings in DS2: Vendrick, Sunken King, OIK, and the Ivory King. Perhaps that's where the small Gwyn fragments ended up, absorbed by the souls of the four would-be monarchs of DS2. It might explain why getting all 4 together provides the power to prevent hollowing.
did anyone else notice that the darklurker has 2 crossed arms and 2 normal ones just like lautrecs armor? Maybe theres a connection to the godess he prays to and the darklurker
Dark lurker is an ancient creature he shares similarities more with Priscilla than anything and his ability to use lifedrain connects him to velka I think he is another crossbreed but velka gave him a more purpose full task instead of guarding her world the painting he was sent to protect the secrets of lifedrain hence his soul being of light and as we see with midir his soul took eons to corrupt with the dark so dark lurker being half god half dragon would make sense as why he is not corrupted
I noticed that as well, Sulyvahn has a connection to the angels of Londor and the Angels are connected to the abyss, the Darklurker could be the final manifestation of those Said Angels
He’s definitely the toughest base game boss. I think it’s lightning that utterly destroys him, other than that he has quite high resistances. I did a run with Hexes and it was stupid how little damage I did, and his laser or fire orbs would just delete me😂😂
@@Troubledboy88 😂😂😂 I think I broke about 3!new controllers fighting this boss. Sounds childish I know but these games get me like this simply because I feel cheated. Idk how many times I’ve played these types of games and literally down to the last hit point and due to some limitation in the game I get taken out😂 I promise I’ve gotten better with controlling my rage though 😂 no more spending money on controllers.
The Darklurker somehow has aspects of both light and dark which makes me believe the dark and light cycle already existed in a more natural state, and that Gwyn disrupted the natural flow of the world by creating the Cycle of linking the flame. After all sunlight is not the same as Pure Light which only the angels possess and the Darklurker

The Darksign is just a ring. There is no black interior if you look at the item in any of the 3 Dark Souls games.

I raged so,hard in this boss simply because it’s so cheap. I had it beat 6 times in a row then pow instant death.
