    I’d use more flux. Probably cuz I’m a Rossman fan.

    I normally go with castellated pads for stuff like this, and I've seen your final version of this PCB which also has castellations but I have to say I've never thought of this nor have I seen it done this way but I really like like it.

    Really enjoyed watching you mod this cart. You make surface mount soldering look really easy. I wonder whether the cost of sacrificing a Pokémon cart would make it cheaper to buy an after market flash cart?

    Nice, im also actually in Japan for 2 more weeks .. and i now will grab some pokemon Editions .. i got all GB/GBC Versions so far for my Collection .. but now i will grab some more to get some spare parts for the convertion to putting the german roms on it .. they are cheap here .. between 550 and 880 yen per Card.

      nyrbsamoht I totally agree. I’ve made his Sanni GB cart reader v1.2b and 3 flashcards from Japanese Pokémon games with RTC with the help of Makho & BennVenn
      Kinda bummed that they have beef right now because they had there differences. Hope they can get along again.

      No, the original ROM in a GBA has decoding logic which isn't in your typical flash IC

      it should but english carts have a much higher demand so you'd be a total asshole to mod one

    I have some MBC3 carts (Mary Kate & Ashley Pocket Planner and Tottoko Hamutarou) Would these be suitable for rom hacks like Prism?

      Yes! MBC3 is the only unique component of an RTC-enabled GBC cartridge. Everything else, as long as the wiring is done properly, is completely fine as long as its similar data sizes, which a mod like this should be more than enough

      Retro Dario Gaming You don’t have a SD card. You flash the card as a whole with a new rom. Search for “Makho” on TH-cam

      for that pcb type, you need to leave the wires there

      The WE pad you can connect to 5v, you can't leave it disconnected. The upper Address line must be connected if using more ROM than the cart originally supported. If you're not using more, that too can be connected to GND, but don't leave it disconnected.

      BennVennElectronics yeah, but the Rom chip is a 44 pin instead of 32, also it uses the mbc30 mapper chip

      Super Saiyan Machoke ahh the fine pitched rom. I've got a board board designed but due to the fine pitch it isn't very diy friendly. I'll do a small run and see how popular they are. The crystal PCB design would make it worth the effort IMO

      BennVennElectronics do you know anything about the mbc30 mapper? I've been searching and can't find anything. I think pocket monsters crystal is the only one that uses it and can't find how it differs from mbc5

      BennVennElectronics from what I gathered the mbc 30 supports the RTC that the mbc3 does and at the same time supports the ram size the mbc5 does. Kind of a hybrid of the 2, I think

      You can, but you need a different chip underneath. Search for TSOP 44

      Any half decent quality tacky flux in a syringe will do. MG chemicals, Amtech, Chipquick, etc.

      These were the cheapest and most plentiful mbc3 cart available. Usually less than $2 each delivered from Japan.

      where do you buy them from? I looked up prices of pokemon red on the japanese amazon and they were over 10k yen/100 usd
      edit: I know it wasnt red in the video but I thought for some reason that red was the same generation as the one shown in the video so I thought it'd be fine eventhough it is said in the video to only use silver or gold my bad

      Japanese Pokemon games aren't rare. English versions are way more rare. I buy all of my legit Japanese games from a flea market and they sell every game for about $5.

      [Edit] Actually, most gbc flashcarts that use rtc ARE made out of modified japanese gold/silver carts already, meaning that if you buy one you're still supporting "destroying ""rare games""" 🤔

      that's why JP gold and silver are always used for this mod, they're the cheapest and most common game to use the RTC
