Detection range is HOT Garbage -- even on the 2nd lowest Stealth setting. The guards are able to see you from 3 miles away. I think it's bugged and I dunno if restarting the game fixes it.
Everything else... I'm warming up to it. I love River Raids for my Stealth Assaults (unless the Stealth bugged out again).

I’ve been alternating between Odyssey and Valhalla recently. I like Odyssey’s story a lot more and its sense of humor and heart, but the level and gear system is atrocious. The side quests are also very throwaway, with a ton of fetch quests. Valhalla’s main story is much weaker by comparison, but the gameplay is far more organic and combat is more fun. Both games could be cutdown and refined - they’re too big.

They should just have made a proper Viking game and not some half assed mix between two genres and themes that doesn’t mix well. Like being an assassin and a Viking is completely different. Vikings are storming cities while assassins infiltrate and kill their target.
Also most of the stealth mechanics are completely broken or useless, just look at detection or social stealth.

Valhalla was a perfectly fine game that's only significant flaw, to me, was that it was an assassin's creed. Released as a standalone Viking game it could have been considered great and all it would take is a few tweaks to achieve that, instead it was an AC so would have to break away to try and tie it back to that instead of just being the Viking game it wanted to be.
Same goes for Odyssey tbh, if that was just released as a straight fantasy game without trying to force a tie in to the assassin's creed lore it could have been a great game about a demigod in ancient Greece.
I feel like Ubisoft got bored of AC for a while there and decided to just make whatever they wanted and make that assassin's creed

It took me 110 hours to get through it. But to be fair, I hunted the witches, killed the bounty hunters, battled the old guard and finished the animus anomalies. Tried to finish the most quests. But bugs, glitches and problems arose quickly. It was a damn alpha version. I had to glitch to play the final mission, from vanishing saves, disappearing buildings and npcs aside. It was a disaster. But when it worked it was good and you could have fun. But damn the game tried everything to ruin your experience. Couldn’t complete it at 100%, was impossible. So I never touched the DLC and put it aside.
Now 1 1/2 years later I returned and man. So much was added and the micro transaction bullshit is back. Fun, not. But i had no crashings, no disappearings and no bugs or glitches so far. I guess now I can complete it and play the DLC.

    @piotrmontgomerytv7786 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Valhalla was a long amazing game and an underrated masterpiece. Nice to see in comments that people start appreciate this game. So OK, let's get to the main part!
What went well: A super long story that most modern games should follow in length, because the single player length we have seen in recent for example CoDs, were short, longest CoD in last three years was MWII with six hours of campaign whereas we all remember good old days of CoD WaW that had 12 hours of campaign. And CoD 1-3 that were even longer! Also the game had like a wild feeling, a great feeling, of wilderness and the opened world was one only of it's kind. Also multiple open world maps offered a gigantic open world, nearly as huge as Skyrim that was fully amazing. Imagine how huge this open world would be in one map with all those distances and sea travels. Other amazing thing was graphics and leading your village. The other great aspect was a full mythical arc. With actual mythical open world maps That all was 10/10.
    What went badly
However no game is perfect. The main con of the game is that even tho it took me 300 hours to complete, the game felt like a lot of wasted potential, for example the side quest mention of war with Picts, we could have like an entire DLC in Scotland with it's King, King Constantin and everything and really, I would love a game that has met 100% potential and lasts even 100 000 000 000 hours and making such games is possible may S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 be an example of it. Other con is that some of the story arcs are basically just there to be, for example Essexe, it ended like in the middle of the quest that it should be. The other one is for example East Anglia where the story did not really made sense and was too candy. The other mess was glowcestreshire arc, and it was so stupid and nonsense that I slept on it twice. So that could be done better. The other con was the OG ending, that was basically stupid. We lost like 3 good characters and on the end the king from being the king became just an ass-leaker doing work for some old lady calling him like he was 5 years old. Luckily the ending was fixed with DLCs and amazing the isle of Skye epilogue. The other con that was blinding me was the political correctness, for example I met up with a Viking and I thought he wants to fight me for swords like in "The Last Kingdom", then he asks me to exchange something more than words with a very battle-needing voice and I clicked yes, then he comes to me, grabs me by the dick and kisses. I was literally disgusted. Some more shit like that was in like 2 other places in the game and I was playing male Eivor and I am thanking God I didn't got to play female one, because that would be a true SJW shit game. The other con was a lackluster ending for the mythical storyline, however it got fixed in the DLCs. The last con sadly is Eivor. And this is because of his personality, this is saw on male Eivor more. He is basically just too kind, too candy, like too nice towards everyone, he wasn't badass enough and also he was very predictable, I would prefer to have a badass character with a lot of mysteries about him and unpredictable, something more like a Viking from "Vikings" show from history or "The Last Kingdom" show from Netflix. Because here in the game it's basically Janosik or more for your understanding Robin Hood from Viking family. This kind of personality well fitted Bayek but not Eivor.
Those are all pros and cons about the game. Despite all of those crimes, the game commited it is still a very good game and should be in the top 10 games of years 2011-2020. I had blast playing it and I recommend it for everyone. Best medieval game ever. This was my review.

Valhalla was my first AC game I played. While I played black flag at my friends house many years ago and had a grasp on lore and what the series was about, it was the first AC game I got for myself. I personally really love the game, even though it is filled with many flaws (broken stealth, story is too long, open world does not justify it's size, etc.) I still love the game nonetheless. I have now played 8 Assassins Creed games, and I still think it tells one of the best stories in the series, but there are definitely better games in the series. I think a lot of criticisms for the game are valid but I feel like it is overhated in a lot of areas, and everyone should give it a try.

I agree to an extent because the story is alright but the motivation for the player to continue the story after hours of side content make it more tedious than enjoyable. Plus Ubisoft needs to find a way to have characters have emotion while they talk without making them throw their arms around as if they are dancing.

    • @ibleminen
      @ibleminen ปีที่แล้ว

I have sadly bought the game and hence given Ubisoft a reason to make shitty half rpgs, with bad combat, stupid traversal mechanics, stupid side missions (fetch quests in particular), filled with filler content, micro transactions and more.
Also the series is supposed to be about assassins and not vikings, at least they could make a proper Viking game instead of mixing two themes that is like water and oil. Like the game has stealth but it’s a complete mess, you can’t even do the raids in stealth because you need additional people to open doors and chests.
I guess this is some of the reasons why Valhalla has had such bad player retention compared to other games.

Yes, yes it was. But I still want to listen to your thoughts for over half an hour. One of my favourite things is that the settlement in England is actually where I’m from (Northamptonshire) so that’s just a special bonus for me.
This game barely qualifies as AC as far as I’m concerned and I think the biggest flaw was the length and how dragged out and badly paced the story was, if the different county arcs actually made a substantial difference it would feel more worth it, such as when we have to lay siege against Falke or fight Aelfred’s army if you hadn’t recruited enough allies it would become substantially more difficult or could even change the storyline considering they’ve thrown out the lore aspect of these apparently being memories because how can we have such choices. Some of the arcs were so clearly just side content that became necessary to complete the story and they either should have been highlighted as optional or otherwise the narrative needed to be tightened up to make them more relevant overall.
It was an absolute slog at times to get through everything in this game, it needed to be trimmed down desperately and Viking England was just a flat out bad choice for an AC game. This feels like a poor clone of Black Flag (my personal favourite in the series) which features a character not on either side of the Assassin and Templar conflict until he resolved his own character arc and started working through his flaws. Why Valhalla could not replicate this with a Viking instead of a pirate I don’t know, Eivor I think should have joined the Order of Ancients in the end, it would have felt like such a sting that it would be so memorable and bittersweet having spent the game hunting them down only to realise they suited her ideals better than the Hidden Ones. She wanted glory and the soon to be templars would give her that far more than an organisation dedicated to hiding in the shadows.
If Ubisoft just decided to drop the AC title and release this as a historical RPG I would not be so harsh on it, but if it wants to be counted as part of the AC series it deserves to be judged as such, and in that respect for me it utterly fails.
Really loved your thoughts as always, hope you do similar longer videos for others in the series

This game is just a big checklist. They simply added stuff that sounded good on paper but didn’t think of how to implement it. Imo it’s feels like they had a lot of buzzwords like vikings, hidden blade, hidden ones, gods, territories, homestead, bigger map, more content, more micro transactions, more abilities, modern day and so on. It feels like it’s a game focused on numbers and stats and not being an enjoyable game.
It kinda reminds me of how a laptop can look top tier with top of the line cpu and gpu, but with bad ram and cooling making it perform worse than the laptop with “worse” specs. It’s funny when some Indy studios makes better games than these big AAA studios like Ubisoft.

@ZernoHD stop spreading this misinformation. Assassin's Creed valhalla is a recreation of what was planned for syndicate when it comes to narrative. You've been lied to by sexists who hate males. You'll dismiss me here of course, but I'll share the truth anyway. Syndicate development leaked. And Jacob feye was the games soul protagonist. Which would have been huge for minority groups representation, as he's the only canon gay male protagonist in the franchise. Evie is one of many women. Evie was the games main bad guy. Yup. You heard me. She had a black and red robe, with a Assassin's insignia necklace, a badly scared face, and a silver mask. She was the reborn sage of ISU Morrigan, and Kacob was the reborn sage Lugh. Hence Evie had a crow like look, and a burned face with grey hair. As morrigan is said to deceive, until its to late, where her hag like appearance and evil nature are revealed. Further more, Morrigan used "champions" to ususrep the powers that oppress her land. In syndicate, Evie was gonna use Jacob in this way. Hence the gang name "Rooks." Which is double meaning, as Morrigan always turns on her champion after the work is done. The symbol for rooks gang has a bird taking a chess piece of a board. This represented evie truing on Jacob after her "rooks" work was done. Jacob wears the traditional green leaf pattern, associated with Lugh, and a single coin, to represent luck. The role planned for villain evie, was given to Roth, hence why Roth ended up with the scared face, grey hair, and mask. The character of Roth was always a thing in early development, but he wasn't a bad guy, until they changed evie to a good guy. And Roth to a bad guy. This was done because higher ups were afraid of backlash from unity co-op not featuring a female option. So the dev team for syndicate were forced to make the once evil evie, into a "protagonist." Look it up on behance. You'll find much evidence of what I've said there. Jacob got side lined in his own game, and lgbt male fans, were denied a massive moment in their progress within video games representation. Later, a group known now as the AC sisterhood made claims that are lies. This was in order to abuse the political climate of today, to bolster their own careers. Again, Aya was never origins protagonist. The sisterhood have later gone back on their lies, because of these leaked game developments. The sisterhood now claim that evie and aya were "50%" of the games... these people are playing you. As for odyssey, Alexios translates to "defender of man." Which is what the eagle bearers mother says your destiny is. Go figure that one out yourself. The game even as it is, dose not make sense for kassandra. And valhalla I'm inclined to believe never was planned to have a gender changed Odin the all father.

I don't have much to say as Valhalla lost me after 24 hours of gameplay. I couldn't take the pacing. I really liked where the modern day was going but I couldn't get past the tedious alliance map. They really just wanted to make as big a game as possible.
I wanted to like it, but between the boring raids, frustrating stealth and lip service to OG fans, and the pacing, I just couldn't. I hope Mirage delivers though. Great review video as always!

One of the things I disliked most about Valhalla is the lack of character development at the expense of free exploration and tackling the alliances in (relatively) any order. That made each alliance a story pocket that felt isolated from the overall story. Compared to AC Odyssey, where yeah, there were a lot of side stories, but often there would be a link to the overall "cult" or "family" stories woven in, and there would be cases where characters from one story overlapped into another. I wish with Valhalla, they had made it so that every few alliances would automatically trigger a character/story development so that it felt like Eivor grew. The episodic nature could be there, but it could have worked if, say, every 2 alliances, you got some overarching narrative in between. Also, in my opinion, the Asgard storyline was so small compared to the amount of playtime we were expected to put in there. It reminded me of the Kingdom Hearts series in a way, where you get a tiny bit of lore in a LONG gameplay area.

    • @ibleminen

I feel like origins is kinda the best game outa the new ones, but they all suffer from the same problem, the endless grind, as someone who likes to 100% ac games I feel like they’re bloated and filled with filler content which i feel like doesn’t impact the story at all, they’re simply there too fill the map and make players spend time in the game. Thus making them a chore to play through after the initial excitement wears off, which it does fast. Also the rpg elements are often only half baked and makes the games worse. Let’s not talk about the traversal of the games it’s the least fun I have had in games, I just press a button and my horse goes to my destination. Combat is no good either it’s a worse copy of the Witchers combat now with god powers as well.
It would be nice to see Ubisoft crossing to follow their ideas instead of just choosing the “safest” option with the ac titles. Like they should make a game about Vikings, the greek mythology and not try to mix it with ac elements. Also they should try to make a more focused game.

In AC Black Flag, you do know when you’ll run into a Man-O-War ship, because there’s only a couple of them in the whole game, and each has its own specific spawn location in one of the 4 corners of the map. You also know exactly what reward you’ll get from any ship, simply by looking at it through your spyglass. Also if I remember correctly, when going to a Man-O-Wars location, a prompt would pop up saying you’re either not ready to face it, that part isn’t yet available, or it’ll let you choose rather or not you want to face it. By choosing no, the game reloads and your ship is facing away from its spawn location. So, my point is everything is completely predictable from choosing to engage in naval combat and you know exactly what the reward is by utilizing the spyglass. There is no mystery to it, it’s just a grinding tool that is more efficient than gathering supplies and currency by attacking forts, looting plantations, or whatever else ways the game offers those things.

I'll start off by saying, great review. But you have a line in here saying Valhalla doesnt incorporate the assassin v templar philosophy in any way. I actually think their twist on the assassin v templar conflict is my favorite aspect of the game. What is the assassin v templar conflict? Freedom v control right? From the beginning of the game, Eivor is told of her destiny. She is destined to carry out this betrayal. So she is controlled. But instead of her losing her freedom because of a group or institution, the game posits the idea that we are controlled by our social norms, our familial obligations, our religions, our culture. At the beginning of the game, Eivor is a viking's viking. Not at all questioning her choices in service of her viking upbringing. But due to her experiences in england, the prophecy of her betrayal of Sigurd, and her visions of Odin, she comes to question these ideals. In the end, she turns down being the ultimate viking when she decides her family is more important and that she will not repeat the mistakes of the past, the mistakes of Odin. Guthrum also gives this question. If we are to be happy here in England, we must adapt and let go of what we knew was true. Ultimately, i thought it was one of the more unique spins on the assassin v templar conflict.

This is an interesting case were I agree with all the points made but not with the conclusion. I do think Valhalla was a waste of my time and I am one of those who felt the game killed their love for the franchise, but it's not because of a lack of good things. This game shines in the dialogue, writing and performance department but all this pieces aren't enough to lift the mediocre gameplay system and the broken narrative. The individual elements work on it's own but not as a whole, and to me that's a failure in any piece of media. Gameplay is the lenguage of videogames like cinematography is the lenguage of movies, it's the way the medium connects with the audience, and if it can't do that right then it's not good at all.

I like it. It's a bad Assassin's Creed game, but pretty solid RPG Viking game in my opinion. The open world is beautiful, alot of content, the raids never get boring, the gameplay is fun... I really enjoy it.

It's not a bad AC game, it is not an AC game at all actually 😂 It is more anti-assassin game, you fight Basim assassin on the end.
