What I love about the “rollercoaster” songs Billie does is that they are actual opposites. To go from “Bitches broken hearts” type jazz to Cher “believe” synth within a single song is so ridiculous and yet works so well. I have so many more thoughts on this. Like how this is such a great showcasing of how we listen to music these days aka on shuffle, skipping, scrolling through snippets, jumping between different ends on the spectrum of our tastes.
it’s even neater when i realized she’s trying to be like the name of the album. hit me hard AND soft. there’s softer sections and harder sections of the same song. i guess billie wasn’t lying when she named the album that.
@@groovyghostnotes Exactly! And I think rollercoaster is a perfect analogy because they also go up and down and slow and fast. Rollercoasters hit hard and soft
Such a good album!! And I agree with your thoughts. I saw an interview where she said that for the first time, she and Finneas were able to make the music they really wanted to make, so it’s a very personal album. And that she was nervous for people to hear it. I LOVE when artists are able to create freely! Also, Jewel (showing my age here) has an awesome song about stalking from the stalker’s point of view called Haunted. So I don’t think it’s weird to like a song about stalking lol.
Thank you for the review, I like your line of thought (and feel the same about many things lol) Definitely will love this album till the rest of my life
The second it came out I listened to it with my friend. We weren’t together but we texted each other the whole time about every single moment in the album. Then I listened to it all the way through again by myself. Then my other friend wanted to listen to it all the way through, making it my third listen back to back LOL. I literally stayed up until like 2am just being absolutely blown away. I do admit, some songs like SKINNY or WILDFLOWER feel like songs that might take a bit longer to fully grow on me, but they still have amazing parts within the song. For example, it took me literally 2 years before I gave Billie Bossa Nova a second chance and now I’m in love with the song and I wished I listened to it again sooner. But, I absolutely adore LUNCH (of course), L’AMOUR DE MA VIE, and BITTERSUITE as my top 3.
I feel like I'm in the minority. I loved the first 3 tracks on this album but after that it falls off a cliff for me. I've listened through twice and will revisit again but it was my least favorite of her albums.
i had hopes that maybe the “second album” floating around would include collabs. but, it seems like that theory might not be true now. it would be cool for sure.
i went into hit me hard and soft with no expectations and it was one of the best albums i've ever heard
being a billie fan, i wanted to think she’d blow me away. i was not let down with this album
@@groovyghostnotesher second album was very bad tho
This is best out of 3 imo
@@shashwatmishraalumni4918 to each their own. i enjoyed it 🤷♀️
Billie did talk about finneas took courses to learn how to score movies that definitely making album feel cinematic.
i can definitely hear that in this album. super neat!
As soon as the album came out, I listened to it and burst into tears. It was just like... no man, I can't explain it in words. you should feel
billie has a great way of making you feel. it’s one of the reasons i enjoy her music so much.
i did the same thing, skinny made me cry and the end of bittersuite bc true blue started playing

As of right now (same as you, it has already changed and probably will change again), my top three:
1. L’amour de ma vie
2. Lunch
3. The greatest
those are great picks!
the album was so good even better it so hard to explain how the album feels it made me twerk, cry, dance, laugh, and it made me happy.

yup! thats just my opinion. :)
