Many years back I saw a performance it might’ve been this guy. I think it was for some kind of exhibition fundraiser. Dude rolls out to the rings with Iron Man by Black Sabbath playing and he had a skull mask on. And just crushed the hell out of the routine. One of the sequences was backflip to a handstand into an inverted iron cross to a Maltese cross to a standard iron cross to a left side Olympic back to a regular iron cross to a right side Olympic, and then back to an iron Cross and then crossed one of his legs up over his knees, like he’s sitting in a chair and this is no big deal. And that was just one sequence, late in the performance. There was a ton of other crosses and big heavy moves in there. But watching this guy dip down deep Maltese going back up to three-quarter and transitioning holy shit my shoulders are exploding just looking at it. 😂

Yes, this gymnastics master is absolutely the best ever. I remembered him from back in the day. Didn't realize that craziness happened to him. Over a few beers! what a robbery, I smell a conspiracy🤐
Yuri Van Gelder is a talented gymnast known for his strength, especially in the rings discipline. While he has demonstrated exceptional strength and skill in his performances, it's subjective to claim him as the strongest gymnast of all time. Gymnastics is a diverse sport with various disciplines, and strength is just one aspect of overall performance. There have been many outstanding gymnasts throughout history, each excelling in different areas of the sport. Some notable names often mentioned for their strength and overall excellence include Vitaly Scherbo, who won six gold medals at the 1992 Olympics, and Kohei Uchimura, a multiple-time world champion known for his all-around prowess. Ultimately, determining the "strongest" gymnast of all time is challenging due to the subjective nature of the sport and the different criteria used to evaluate athletes. Each gymnast brings their own unique strengths and skills to the sport, making comparisons difficult.
For boxing you need a different kind of strength. Boxing works a lot with kinetic energy/ force. Meaning most of the power comes from the lower part of the body.
To those who criticize the music and are not satistied which just watching these incredible feats of strenght. The easiest thing in the world to do is criticize, try doing a tiny fraction of what this gymnast can do. Do better
Always remember winning is not everything . The phenomenal strength of the man is just incredible, as his is mental strength. I take my hat off to you mate 😁
i believe that even top athletes can have serious problems with addiction, and impulsive decisions. van gelder is one of the best on rings and made it to the top only to have it crumble because of his dopamine receptors and nucleus accumbens being focused towards a short term gain (fun and party) over the long term (becoming the best ringsman who ever lived).
I think everyone has his problems and we all have and will do mistakes. I think we shouldn't interpret too much. What we do know is that he is a great athlete and he deserves this.
@@art_of_defying_gravity i am not trying to speculate or imagine things beyond what all the involved people, including van gelder, have said. his colleagues have said he is a party guy, and he himself admitted as such. he has two sides to him, where he is a serious and top form athlete, but also a propensity towards partying and vices. i don't care to make a moral judgment, because no one is perfect. however, it is simply my personal opinion that van gelder made a serious mistake to drink and party (even if a little bit) before such an important moment of his career such as the olympics, especially when he was already on thin ice for being caught positive for cocaine before multiple times. he should definitely have given his performance, for which he was actually a very strong contender to get gold, and THEN partied and got drunk as much as he wanted. instead, he made a crucial mistake to drink before, and the olympic committee and coaches etc. simply could not allow that since he was already considered penalized before for cocaine use. but, alas, that is simply how addiction and short-term thinking works, and we simply have to accept that addiction comes in many forms and can affect anyone. this is what i take away from the life story of van gelder, hopefully even if his olympic career is gone forever, he can continue to bring up gymnasts, gymnastics, and especially speak to the glory of the rings for the rest of his life. after all, in the calisthenics and gymnastics community he is very well regarded as a talented gymnast. his story can be inspiring precisely due to his mistakes, and not inspite of it.
Rings is the only real gymnastics discipline, the rest are easy in comparison. Van Gelder is probably the best there ever was on rings. A bureaucratic mess like the olympics cant affect that fact, much as they wish they could. He was not a drug addict, he was a sportman.
The time and investment he made in gymnastics was way more than partying. There are people that basically make partying a full time thing, often musicians and bartenders, etc. He wasn't like that. All it takes is one incident is a month long period to fail a drug test, or it could be even more than one month, depending on the nature of the test. Edit: I suppose the leaving the Olympic village when he knew it would get him disqualified did demonstrate a genuine problem of self-control, although the performances stand on their own. I don't like him, but I would still cite Jon Jones as the best mixed martial artist ever, even though he was impulsive and frequently used drugs and drank/drinks to excess.

instead, he made a crucial mistake to drink before, and the olympic committee and coaches etc. simply could not allow that since he was already considered penalized before for cocaine use.
but, alas, that is simply how addiction and short-term thinking works, and we simply have to accept that addiction comes in many forms and can affect anyone.
this is what i take away from the life story of van gelder, hopefully even if his olympic career is gone forever, he can continue to bring up gymnasts, gymnastics, and especially speak to the glory of the rings for the rest of his life.
after all, in the calisthenics and gymnastics community he is very well regarded as a talented gymnast.
his story can be inspiring precisely due to his mistakes, and not inspite of it.
@@michaellopez2070he should have left the celebration for after he had finished his performance he has trained so long and hard for.
The singer is one angry fella 😂
