"The Mailbox Sketch that Shocked America". The writers need it explained to them and then pretend they get it, Jack gets it after a casual 2 word reference. Beautiful.
They are too young. And Jack must've still been a liberal Democrat during Watergate!
"Is that a person who lived?" is a perfect line- dry, subtle, hilarious.
It's not original at all though. Not subtle as well.

One of the best episodes in my opinion. Carrie Fisher truly rose to the challenge and knocked it out of the park. She received an Emmy nomination for her appearance and Alec Baldwin won the Best Actor Emmy for this episode. Jack Burditt and Michael Engler received Emmy nominations for writing and directing respectively. Burditt’s nomination was a lock the moment Baldwin uttered that hippie line. Deserved all round.
And Liz received another Followship Award.

Fisher was one of those Michael Keaton-esque actors that didn’t appear in a whole lot of stuff but when she did she always knocked it out of the park

Everytime I see Alec Baldwin, all I can imagine is that Ted Templeton is speaking.
That's your problem.
You know, as much of a radical as she portrays herself as being and as much as she ways to push the envelope now, the mailbox sketch is actually very hermetic, the kind of thing people under a dictatorship would think to fool censorship.
A lot of 1960s humor was like that. Heck, some 70s humor, too (and, yes, that does include the earlier episodes of Saturday Night Live).
