- With our new No-Till Drill from Tar River Implements, we'll be able to substantially increase the size of our sunflower planting. The Tar River Saya-505 no-till drill is a capable machine that will allow us to quickly and efficiently plant everything from grass, cover crops, and flowers.

Looking forward to seeing the results.
Nice addition to the farm
Awesome machine. I am thinking that will work awesome in your once already tilled before plots. All new things need a learning process. Great purchase. 👍 a time saver thats for sure. Youll get it.
Have you seen if the coulters are lined up exactly with the double disc openers? I have the 507 and they weren't lined up out of the box - might help you get seed in the furrow a bit more! Thanks for taking the time to video your experience!
Pretty cool piece of equipment!! It has been a month now, did the buck wheat come up??
yes it did, but I didn't have time to let it grow much. I've since planted over 2 acres of sunflowers with this but didn't get around to filming any of that.
@@WoodsTreeFarm Awesome!!
Any update on the sunflowers?
Hey, I was looking to see if you had any more hats available. I can't find them on your website. Will you be making more of those to sell?
Thanks! We recently got some in and I think I have the online store configured correctly now. Select the 'shipping' option and let me know if the hats show up for you... woodstreefarm.square.site/s/order
I am about to buy a saya 505 for dove field & food plots. I do a 4 acre dove field. How did it do with your sunflowers?
It has done well for us. The only issue I've had is it's not heavy enough to penetrate hard ground which would lead to poor germination. I either need to disc first or wait until after a good rain
Did you try adding weight to the drill and if so how much? Do you remember how many #/acre you drilled sunflowers?@@WoodsTreeFarm
I haven't tried any weight. 25-30lb/ac black oil sunflowers.
Now that your gonna run that drill, are you gonna switch out to R1 ag tires on your kubota?
I don't have any intention of doing that. The industrial tires are meeting my needs 98% of the time. If its too muddy, I wish I had ag tires, but then again, if its that muddy I probably shouldn't be running the tractor around tearing everything up so much.
What is the width of that drill?
the specs say its 55 inch working width
Looks like an expensive piece of equipment! You must be reinvesting all your profits in new equipment. What future payback do you expect on this via saved time and/or increased yields?
This will be a huge time savings, and we'll be able to plant more, which should help us attract a larger audience for our flower events which will grow revenue. But you're accurate in your assessment - we've invested everything we've made, including what we make from TH-cam, firewood, on-farm events, product sales, etc, back into the business up to this point. If we hit our 2023 goals, we may take our first distribution in 5 years.
Any updates?
Probly work better a day or 2 after some good rain .
This highlights compaction created by excessive tillage. It will take a few years to create natural tilth before the drill can bury into the ground
I'm not going to say youre wrong but the drill didn't penetrate previously uncultivated soil either. It was too dry. Two weeks later I ran it after a rain and it did great.
