This pattern is super easy to follow and pretty quick to complete. It took me only about 2 hours to make the crochet beanie, with pom poms and everything. So it would make a great last minute gift for Christmas. It’s so warm and cozy, perfect for winter.

    Start with 16 chains
For the second chain start single crocheting - 15 chains - crochet 1 extra chain in first row
Flip and Use back loops only, single crochet -15 chains - crochet 1 extra chain in second row
Start increasing by one, in first chain do 2 single crochets and then continue single stitching normally - 1 extra in chain in third row
Flip and single crochet normally - 1 extra in chain in fourth row
Continue increasing by one for the fifth the ninth row - end with 22 chains
Single crochet the same amount of chains for the tenth row - 22 chains
Start decreasing the chain by skipping the first stitch and do this for the eleventh to nineteenth row - end with 15 chains
Keep a consistent amount of single crochets for twenty to twenty-fifth row - 15 chains
Start increasing the chain to create the other ear flap for twenty-sixth to thirty-fourth row - end with 22 chains
Single crochet the same amount of chains for the thirty-fifth row - 22 chains
Start decreasing the chain by skipping the first stitch and do this for the thirty-sixth to forty-second row - end with 15 chains
Keep a consistent amount of single crochets for forty-third to forty-fourth row - 15 chains
Single crochet along the bottom edge where the ear flaps are
Single crochet to the thirty-fourth row and then create a chain for the tail (whatever length you want - count how many chains) - 34 chains
Crochet another tail with the same amount of chains as the first tail then attach it by single crochet to the exact same stitch on the hat
Continue single crocheting the edge of the hat until the ninth row and then create a chain for the tail - 34 chains
Crochet another tail with the same amount of chains as the first tail then attach it by single crochet to the exact same stitch on the hat
Attach the two sides by slip stitch and make sure the stitches line up - insert needle into stitches from both side and yarn over until you connect both ends - and extra 2 chains
Cut about 40 inches of yarn and then pull the yarn through and pull tightly so it is a knot
Thread yarn tail into a yard needle (I tied it to my crochet needle)
Weave it in and out of the stitches from the top part of the hat
Pull the yarn through to connect the top of the hat
Tie the yarn tail and the other tail from the beginning

I wanted to make a messy bun hat and I came across this video. This hat is so adorable I had to make it. However, you must have a petite head bc this hat is way too small for my gigantic noggin, so I didn't cinch the top and it makes for a very cute ear warmer.

I am using worsted yarn and using two strands of different and same colors and love the results. I have had to use a larger hook size to get youth and adult sizes. Over all I really like this beanie.

I am a crochet beginner and just followed this video to make a winter hat for myself! It is such a simple easy but high quality tutorial to follow. I used size 5bulky yarns and crochet 2 balls at the same time to make it looks like super bulky yarns. Also I made it a bit bigger size to fit me well. I know it is spring time but I am in Canada here winter goes forever. Winter hat makes my life! With this hat I am already ready for the next winter( here Quebec is still in winter). Thank you so much. I will follow your video to try more project! Also I love your sweet voice

Question: It looks like there are air spaces between the stitches. Won't that allow the wind in and make it cold? Want to make one for my sister up north but needs to be warm.

is there a way to make the hat bigger for bigger adults? would it just be increasing hook size?

I have been sitting here crocheting this hat and doing exactly what you have been saying to do but at the end of roll 19 I get 13 stitches one side it's not straight like yours is showing a straight edge they both have points to them both sides have a point in them I did not have a straight edge what am I doing wrong you say decrease at the end of each roll I have decreased everywhere you have said and in the beginning I increased were you was saying too but yet I have two points in the middle I guess I will say the middle of the pattern on both sides I mean a point on both sides do I decrease at the end of each row as you were explaining I don't understand where I have went wrong
