    Cherry Sunburst Les Paul. Best looking guitar in history. I fell in love as a drooling 14 year old in 1977. But in those days couldn't even afford an Ibanez copy. I'm just so jealous of the choices the young folk have today.

      I’ve recently bought the Artist LP60 Pro-Line, which I bloody love, but doesn’t have the pick up splitters or locking tuners. Anyway have you tried the LP60 PL and if so how do these compare.

      Shocking Pikachu I bought the Artist LP60 a couple of weeks ago, I’m amazed by the build quality, sound, how it stays in tune, just about everything.
      I cannot think of one bad thing to say about them. I’m now eyeing up their humbucker Tele it sounds awesome in video reviews.

    • @2006mateo
      @2006mateo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wonder if potential purchasers of Artist should be concerned with the fact that you sent two guitars back for quality issues and then got a great guitar sent you.
      If a company knows you are a reviewer perhaps they make sure the guitar you get in your hands is a step above what the rest would end up with.
      I have no reason to believe that this is actually the case, I am just thinking out loud as I am considering one of these.
      It must be one of the challenges for you, Shane, as your status as an influencer goes up. Mixed blessing: It becomes easier to get gear for evaluation but harder to know if the instrument in your hands is an average representative of the company's offerings or something special "cherry picked" for the review.

    • @ShockingPikachu
      @ShockingPikachu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2006mateo I think what happened is the ones he sent back were a while ago, they probably upgraded manufacturing since which is why he feels confident reviewing it now.
      But as someone who has bought an LP59 they’re a really good instrument to play. Way better than the cheapy electric guitar I’ve been playing for a while

      Hi Shane, nice tones from that guitar. Now, when you say that you returned 2 for poor quality before to get this one perfect, would it be that Artist guitars sent you an extra carefully built and controled guitar which is better than their standard which another unknown customer would get ? Cheaper than a high end Epiphone means more expensive than the standard Epi, and way more expensive than a Harley Benton SC450 ?

    Hi Shane - love your channel and your insight into all things electric/blues guitar :) However, please, when testing coil splitting/tapping, do not only test both humbucker pickups split or not in the middle position - you can split, say, the neck pickup while the bridge is in humbucker mode and vice versa. Roll-off the volume of one pickup or the other while one pickup is split to create different tones (in the middle position). You will find with heaps of gain that all things even themselves out, yet when clean you have the option of blending the split and humbucker tones depending on which pickup you split (at least with a Gibson styled two volume/two tone setup). Just a suggestion, and I do not wish to criticize your fantastic reviews and commentary :)

    Good review. Re: Tone control, most Chinese guitars inc this one (I have it and love it), use a linear tone pot for the tone controls (B500K). It's more like an on/off switch for the tone. If you want a more 'normal' tone control that works like the volume control, you need to swap them out for A500k pots. I'll get on to swapping mine eventually.

    • @MrPetersVideo
      @MrPetersVideo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just for interest - this LP59 uses Linear B500K Volume pots, and LOG A500 Tone pots - but both the Volume and Tone are greatly "On-Off" in control result. (= not overly good control). I am not sure what could be changed to make them (both Vol and Tone) operate more usefully across their ranges.

      Epiphone prices in Australia rival Gibson prices in the USA. Epiphone LP's were $600 here four years ago - today they are $1500 give or take a few hundred dollars depending on the shop / current pricing.
      Tokai prices in Australia are out of control now as well making them a difficult option when you can either spend a little more or a lot less on something else. They are good but they are not a $4500 guitar [ pickups and switching's not even close to what other manufacturers use in their guitars.] The low end MIJ Tokai are north of $2000 and the pickups / pots are horrible. [Blanket over the speaker type horrible]

      @@tdunster2011 Mate I must admit - I wouldn't buy a brand new epi now in Oz with their prices. If I find a second hander at a bargain price I'll snavel it up. I think the last few I've bought have been Artistguitars and they seem every bit as good as others double the price. Even the lower LP60's are great for project guitars without going through the headache of aliexpress.

    As usual, Shane, great video! I have a question unrelated to the video if you should happen to see this. When you play live, does it matter to you whether the amp you use is a valve or solid-state amp, or is it more about whatever gives you the sound you want? I'm sure you prefer one over the other, I'm just curious. You really seem to like your Marshall, but you also seem to like your Peavey Bandit. Being both a keyboardist and guitarist, I really like the Roland Jazz Chorus amps, because I can get a crystal clear tone for my keyboard, but I can put some dirt on if I want to play some guitar.

    Hi Shane. Nice review. As a right handed player, I had not previously noticed that the controls work in reverse for left handed guitars!? I expect the reason that the tone control only gives a short amount of treble roll off is that it is a conventional log pot wired in reverse (to a righty). This means that the resistance changes by 70% in the first 20% of travel. Other manufacturers will use reverse log pots for left handed controls. Or maybe linear tone controls. Did you notice the same effect on the volume control?

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of left-handed guitars are wired as right-handed so the pots do go backward. Fender and Epiphones' go forwards whereas Gibson and PRS go backward most of the time. It's kind of strange, but I am used to it now. It's the same wiring they use for right-handed players for whatever reason. :)

    • @MrPetersVideo
      @MrPetersVideo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The LP59 has B500K Linear VOLUME pots, and A500 LOG Tone pots. But.... they all have a very poor range 'taper' end result in the Volume or Tone. That pot setup is somewhat optimal for an LP, but in this case, at least, it doesn't work very well at all. (fairly On-Off Volume and Tone)

    Two years down the line and still not sorted. Artist seem not to take feedback from customers seriously, that’s disappointing. I enjoy the guitar otherwise it’s a nice instrument. I do however think the guys who test the guitars receive quality checked guitars. Artist should jazz up their QC procedures.

      avbhayes When I ordered mine they said it would “ship” on the 25th August!
      Not sure about the reason for the delay but assume it’s linked to the Covid 19 outbreak!
      Hope it arrives by the 28th because I’m away for a week after that!

    • @ces69
      @ces69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine arrived last week, sounds and plays really well but had to do a couple of tweaks!
      A couple of the frets had what appeared to be dried glue lumps on them and the bridge pickup wasn’t aligned perfectly!
      Not too difficult to correct.
      The truss rod appeared to be well adjusted and nut accurately cut but bridge action set a bit too high, again no problem.
      Have fitted a “proper” Les Paul Standard truss rod cover, more accurate selector switch “poker chip” and replaced the hexagonal nut on the selector switch with a more appropriate knurled one!
      Have decided to fit a pick guard as I think Les Pauls look better with them so awaiting eBay delivery.
      Les Pauls are heavy guitars so have also fitted strap locks!
      Mine seems to have a one piece neck with a scarf joint but appears to have been done well.
      Although it has locking tuners they are not as precise as I would like and will probably upgrade them with Grover mini rotomatics which look like they will be a direct swap!
      Pickups are great, apparently being based on Seymour Duncan Jazz and JB and see no reason to change them as would have to pay more than the value of the guitar to get anything that “might” be better!
      For the purchase price and in fact for even up to £500, I think it would be difficult to buy better!
      Overall a great Les Paul type guitar regardless of your ability for less than half the price of a comparable Epiphone which might not even sound as good!

    Hey what do you think of the binding that goes over the fret ends?

    • @MrPetersVideo
      @MrPetersVideo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that fret end binding is a good, and a bad, thing. Obviously no harsh/sharp fret ends left from poor quality finishing, BUT even the binding edges are a LITTLE bit 'sharp'. You can feel them click on by your fingers as you (if you) slide past them. So that is somewhat like poorly finished frets anyway.
      So as it turns out the binding (per fret) needs better finishing, LOL.

      DesertScorpionKSA Scarf jointed ‘Gibson-style’ necks are far stronger than the neck of a ‘standard’ US Gibson. No short grain timber running straight through the neck angle, therefore much less chance of the frequently experienced ‘classic Gibson headstock break’ which I found on opening the case of my newly purchased Gibson ES 335 four years ago!
      So, provided there is a good timber match and accurately constructed joint... 👍

      tdunster2011 wow, I never knew that. They stopped making them because they were too hot in the 50’s? Looking back that make sense that your country and classic blues players often use Fender style guitars because they were used back then as the clean sounding guitar. And Les Paul’s have become synonymous with hard rock because Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Steve Marriott used them.

    • @tdunster2011
      @tdunster2011 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@erictoniaschwab1009 No because they weren't selling well enough in the 50's [Did you know the Gibson model numbers used to refer to the price in dollars ?]. Fender if I'm not mistaken probably made more money selling the P-bass than they did the tele or strat in the 50's - early 50's for sure.

    • @ces69
      @ces69 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m in the UK and currently own 3 Harley Bentons which are all upgraded with better pots, pickups etc and love them to bits!
      Over here they are a little less or a little more expensive depending on the model than the Artist!
      The current Harley Benton Les Pauls are not as authentic copies after having caved in to pressure from Gibson to make styling changes.
      Same with the current 335 copy, which is why I hunted for an older model on eBay!
      I was originally looking for an older Harley Benton (authentic) Les Paul on eBay when I came across this, a no brainer really at only £199 with locking tuners, bone nut, coil splits and “lock down” bridge.....delivered!
      I’ve heard good things about the “Bullbucker” pups but if they don’t live up to the hype I have a set of Seymour Duncan 59’s I can throw in!
      Just waiting for it to be delivered!

    • @ces69
      @ces69 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It arrived and the pickups are great, outstanding even!
      Don’t see myself changing as to get some that “might” sound better are likely to cost more than the guitar and difficult to see how they could be much better!
      The guitar has the tones I have in my head for a Les Paul!
