- Letting Starbuck Baristas Pick our Drinks for a Week...
Today I brought some of my best friends with me to Starbucks to let the Starbucks baristas create their fav/most creative drinks! Huge thank you to Summer Mckeen, Emma Chamberlain, Olivia Rouyre, and my sister Erin Thumann for being in this with me! This was so much fun to make and I def recommend all the drinks we tried in this video!
Day 1: Vanilla Bean + Double Chocolate Chip Frap (lol)
Ombre Pink Drink + Pink Drink
Day 2: Horchata Frap + Cupcake Frap
Day 3: Red Velvet Frap + Butter Beer Frap
Day 4: Mint Chocolate Chip Frap + Cold Brew Frap

As a barista this is a cool concept, if someone asked me to do this I would definitely go all out. also an fyi for everyone, no barista has the secret menu memorized since it's not a real thing, just made up drinks that are posted online but of course whenever a recipe pops up on our feed we read into it (we just don't go out of our way to know them all). Another way this could have gone was just telling them to make you the craziest thing they've ever made for themselves becuase when a barista is bored we make crazy things (personally I have blended a brownie and cake pop into a frap before) you'd get some insane drinks that way. Loved it and totally wish you came to my store!!!

the reason this experiment is such a gamble is because the “secret menu” doesn’t exist. we usually ask for a recipe is you want a drink that you saw online. sooooo just ask them to be creative! it is a great challenge bc you get to try new things but try to stay away from requesting “secret menu” items
I have worked at Starbucks for 7 years and we never expect customers to tell us recipes lol. If we don’t remember or know how to make something, we look it up or ask another employee. 😂 It really isn’t that big of a deal. They were having fun and doing it specifically for a video... I don’t understand why that bothers people so much. It’s not like people do this constantly. 😊 I love my job and it makes me sad to see other people complaining about stuff like this. We make coffee... it’s not that serious. 😂😂😂
Chelsea Ozanic maybe it is done differently at your store and that’s fine, however that is what we ask our customers for in our district. like i said, it was a great challenge, never said i was complaining or that it was a big deal, just thought i’d give a helpful hint! thanks for sharing your experience, i have heard many other baristas say their store asks for recipes for “secret menu” items as well so it is helpful for customers to know.
I don't have a cell phone so if I don't know the recipe and someone else can't look it up or tell me it isn't happening
yeah definitely important for them to tell you the recipe, not just to make things easier for us but to make sure they are getting what they want

Yeah as a barista sometimes in my free time if it's slow I just make random drinks for fun lol. Also since we get free drinks at work it's fun to try new things constantly. so I think baristas would know!

they didn't give you secret menu items bc it's not an official menu. the baristas often don't know the ingredients bc it's not endorsed by Starbucks and they're not allowed to just go on their phones at work to check out the recipes. it was invented by customers, so chances are that if you don't tell them the recipe, they won't make it for you lol

Chelsea Ozanic sounds like someone doesn’t know the policy lol. I also love my job at Starbucks but the policy is for the costumer to read us or show us the ingredients. This is due to inconsistencies in recipes online. For example: I may have read what the grasshopper Frappuccino is according buzzfeed, but the costumer may have saw the recipe on cosmo and have something totally different in mind. Starbucks would never allow for that sort of margin of error on their products.

From a fellow barista:
1) The ombré pink drink (and a lot of others) is from our menu.
2) The secret menu are not Starbucks made drinks. Do not expect us to make them because we don't have to know the recipes and they have nothing to do with Starbucks. Unless you find literally the Saint of baristas who has time for this and no line of drinks to make, you will get something off of the menu along with an eye roll.
DISCLAIMER: if you come in with an actual recipe for something you found on some "secret menu" the Internet made, your barista will happily write that recipe on a cup for you. But don't expect them to know or need to know the secret menu.

horchata is a drink made out of milk, rice, and cinnamon. This is always the drink that I get when I go to a Taco Shop.

The secret menu isn’t an official thing, if the barista doesn’t know the recipes it’s not required like the standard drink recipes they are supposed to know. A lot of them just know it bc they are popular. A secret drink can be anything you tell them to make.

There is no such thing as an actual secret menu. "Secret menu" items are just customer made custom creations. Starbucks has no problem customizing your drinks however you want with whatever you want. Not many people know that and think its "secret" lol
