If he finishes with the weight of runs behind him (>12000) and that 60+ average then there's a good change that he will go down as one of the greatest batsman of all time.
Commentators these days are so willing to throw around comparisons to the greats of the past but he really does justify alot of his acclaim.
Even as an Englishman, I want to see him go down as a legend so that in decades I can say that I watched him bat.

One difference that I've noticed between Smith and Kohli just listening to them talk about their game is that Smith absolutely loves batting and scoring runs for himself, while Kohli loves winning games of cricket for his team and tries to score as many runs as possible for his team in the process. That's probably the thing that makes Kohli a better captain IMO.

Watch his ashes 2019 test series he could've remain notout in so many innings but he chose not to so that he can boost his team's run rate, in 4th test Match he scored 82 in just 92 balls like he's playing an odi match on a pitch where everyone was struggling to even score 10 runs and yet you're saying that he plays for himself not for his country, just watch the highlights of the first match where he scored 144, he got out both times while trying to hit a boundary and yet you say he's playing for himself, his overall strike rate in that test series was 65, is that the strike rate of a selfish player?

Yes.i think you are right virat has to learn from smith.what virat does wrong is that he sometimes loses patience at the start of his innings.if virat plays his first 20 balls patiently by leaving the balls, then he is very difficult to get out.

India and NZ have found out a way of dismissing Smith by drying runs. But sad India didnt have their best bowlers this series. In first 2 tests it was awesome to see how our bowlers kept him down. Smith has scored the slowest in this series I think.

Smith is very humble must say. The weird movements he does might be part of his OCD(everyone has some more or less) but in every interview, he would smile and answer the same damn question with a smile. All he wants is to bat.

I genuinely remember when he just made it in to the Aussie team, and in the words of a commentator, (apologies for forGetting said commentators name, I’ve had a few) his place in team was literally saved by the fact that he was the dressing room clown who lifted morale. Now he’s probably, along with Virat, the best test batsman on the planet. From a Brit and it’s kills me to say that. But I love RR’s so, meh 🤷‍♂️
