I served with Ian’s cousin in Iraq. We had a demo cd of his with the best Folk/county music I had ever heard. The entire platoon had a copy and was playing it the entire year. This was in 2007. I still have the album on my iPhone and none of the songs are on the internet. It amazed me how long it took for him to get famous.
Its an honest to God travesty covid shut down his career like it did. He was gaining incredible momentum till it hit. Then he never seemed to get back into the public eye like before. He seems to have taken the blow very hard too. Its beyond a shame, because hes one of the best musicians/songwriters of the last 20 years
Same thing happened with me and my band now I'm applying for LAPD but play on days off writing songs and recording em in the country folk style going solo. COVID messed up a lot of things but I'm glad Ian Noe got some stuff up and has a fan base at least hopefully he can get back up to a higher level than Chris Stapleton or Tyler Childers. @@whiteyfisk9769
If you got Ian Noe, Colter Wall and Ben Tod together and told them all to play their darkest, saddest songs, I don't think you'd make it out of the room alive...
This song randomly played when I got my deceased cat back from the vet to bury. I cried my eyes out the whole way home with this song on repeat.. RIP to my best friend and soul companion. I’ll see you again soon B. ❤️
Holy shit!!! 3am can’t sleep, just found this guy in the TH-cam rabbit hole that’s usually filled with crap, but he’s the best I’ve found recently. Tells a story and has no need for anything other than guitar and perfect voice. Amazing.
Ian has done the impossible, writing a song from the perspective of a serial killer with a understanding of the complex emotions and motives that go into the actions of such a beast. Every thought and cord has a specific emotion tied to it, the song is brilliant.
Just discovered him. I was walking passed some guys at work playing cards and they were listening to him. I had to stop what I was doing and listen with them. I was mesmerized!
I live just out of beattyville, its a beautiful river town with a railroad and and gorgeous mountains tainted with the scourge of meth, heroin and cocaine. Maybe someday, some how it will return to the glory of being a hard working trustworthy timber town. Still, there are many things to love here.
Mary almost made it to twenty-nine The mother of an orphan and a friend of mine Painted up with high heels on her feet Making what she could from this filthy street [Chorus] Dead on the river yesterday Been gutted like some varmint, so they say With a tangled rope around her, she was bound Dead on the river, rolling down [Verse 2] Well, I was quotin' scripture at an early age The old man ruled his household in a gospel rage Up and down our hallway, the Bible spilled Left behind a sinner in the mill and field [Chorus] Dead on the river yesterday I don't know how much longer that I can stay They're saying now there were two more bodies found Dead on the river, rolling down [Verse 3] The Feds are in their best suits, pulling rank Scattered out with their bloodhounds along the bank And the city lights, they flicker on the one-lane bridge The siren echoes bouncing along the ridge
Saw Ian when he 1st come out. He was 17-18 yrs old approx. & opened for "DAC/David Allan Coe" at the MAC in pburg, Ky. Ian had a great sound just with his guitar. Then DAC comes on stage & he was SOO Drunk he didn't know he was even there? He may have sang 2-3 lines of a couple songs "IF that"? Then, his wife came on stage with him & she Tried to sing. But, Honestly she couldn't carry a tune in a bucket? But, her mic stand slid down & she literally threw a Pure FIT/Tantrum like a 3-5 yr old child/Brat. Ian was Awwsome. But, DAC & his wife SUCKKED & were BOOO'D off stage. They were literally that Bad. I always liked DAC. But, we paid Good & Hard earned money to hear him. Not to see him Stagger? He had to be lead off stage. The MAC apologized for his actions & offered Refunds or Free tickets to upcoming events. Hate to say that about DAC..i Really Do. But, just being Honest! Sure that Ian Noe Can & Could vouche for this!! But, he made himself look like a Pure Fool & his wife made him look even Worse!!

I wanna hear that !
If you got Ian Noe, Colter Wall and Ben Tod together and told them all to play their darkest, saddest songs, I don't think you'd make it out of the room alive...
These are my top three on TH-cam, as of late. Love Arlo Mckinley, as well.
Probably an accurate thought good sir. 🍻
you're forgetting Tyler Childers
@@Definitelyfromthisplanet And Cole Chaney
@@Definitelyfromthisplanet All these names are like the disciples of the great Van Zandt.

Saw him open for Son Volt and he had the audience spellbound.
Just discovered him. I was walking passed some guys at work playing cards and they were listening to him. I had to stop what I was doing and listen with them. I was mesmerized!
I could only imagine.
It's amazing how young Ian looks here.
This is a heavy song.
A day later and I can't stop listening. Such a clear, strong voice and a universal song. Great stuff. Reminds me of Townes' "Tecumseh Valley"
Matt Darby was thinking the same thing

Give me some Glug Early
Dude this song got me tears in my eyes. You are an awesome talent. Thank you for your song
He is like an amalgamation of Neil Young, John Denver, and Jim Croce. Love his stuff
Sounds like Ian Noe, I like it.
Saw Ian open up for Colter Wall in Memphis awesome show
BBMJ 1026 saw that it Pittsburgh, absolutely amazing
His voice reminds me of a young Bob Dylan in some way... so nice to listen to!
especially in Barbara's song!
Much better singer than dylan. Reminds me of Gordon lightfoot and bob dylan rolled into one.
wow!! I can't stop listening to this!!!
So glad I found this artist. Just amazing, don’t ever change it…..
Superb song...
Wrote it after watching the show true detective. Great show and song
Just saw Ian live in Portland, he was awesome!
If you live in Kentucky you understand
Another great song.
This is SO FUCKING GREAT!!!
just saw him last night in Jim Thorpe PA he was awesome!! love dead on the river!
Dark Prine type stuff. I hope he can continue his great songwriting.
Godness, this is... awesome
Love this - played skillfully and absolutely amazing sound. Love the guitar too... makes me miss my mockingbird
Love this guy❤
This is really, really good!
This guy and Vikesh Kapoor are doing really good Dylan-y stuff! It's really nice to see!
The evolution of this song is inspired
Mary almost made it to twenty-nine
The mother of an orphan and a friend of mine
Painted up with high heels on her feet
Making what she could from this filthy street
[Chorus]
Dead on the river yesterday
Been gutted like some varmint, so they say
With a tangled rope around her, she was bound
Dead on the river, rolling down
[Verse 2]
Well, I was quotin' scripture at an early age
The old man ruled his household in a gospel rage
Up and down our hallway, the Bible spilled
Left behind a sinner in the mill and field
[Chorus]
Dead on the river yesterday
I don't know how much longer that I can stay
They're saying now there were two more bodies found
Dead on the river, rolling down
[Verse 3]
The Feds are in their best suits, pulling rank
Scattered out with their bloodhounds along the bank
And the city lights, they flicker on the one-lane bridge
The siren echoes bouncing along the ridge
[Chorus]
Dead on the river yesterday
I need a flood to wash my sins away
Like an ancient hickory twisted turnin' brown
Dead on the river, rolling down
Just saw this live in Columbus, Ohio last night. This kid's got it!

DEADLY TUNES MAN KEEP IT UP
Damn this is fucking sweet. Lyrics and guitarwork are fucking badass. Like those old Southern Gothic balladists
Reminds me a little bit of Jason Molina
Is this about the green river killer or something? What a great song.
Saw this guy in Nashville. Said the song was inspired by Season One of True Detective.
Jacob Anderson I caught him last night in Lexington,Ky.He told us it was inspired by Season 3 of Justified lmao
No...that was "Letter to Madeline"
That was a different song that was inspired by Justified, can't remember the name of it. I was there too lol
He said he was fans of both shows but this was definitely the one that was inspired by True Detective.
Reminds me of Townes van Zandt a bit.
Damn Good tune Ian. Thank you CME.( & Ian Mary.)
He's good .. different
🍻
Am i the only one that notices his insanely long thumbs?? No wonder hes such a good finger picker

Shades of Townes Van Zandt and I don't mean that as an insult.
May the next Neil Young ! Awesome!
Martin Nance oh yeah the yank!
I agree. Neil young & bob dylan had a son. His name is ian noe!
We live in a simulation and this dude is from an alternate universe.
Was this about the green river killer
Sounds like willie Nelson a little bit great singer
Son of a bitch. Keep pickin bro. This is the music that feeds a man's soul
might stand side by side with Colter Wall and Tyler Childers? i hope so
500th Like lol
Somebody needs to connect him with Tom Petty band and mix his music into the sets.
B Novak. Haha ian noe and the heart breakers
Ian is light years beyond the myopic and shallow Tom Petty
For some reason it reminds me of willie Nelson
Dakota Maxton i thought the same thing
Move over Dylan
Those other guys should just get up and leave.
