I also use a 10’ 5 weight and with a homemade tapered leader down to 6 lb. fluorocarbon tippet of about 2 ft. My go flys are a small Muddler style (my own design ) # 10 and a picket pin dropper # 12 about 20” up. This combo has accounted for 1000’s of trout over 50 + years and almost never fails me! Your fishing style shown here is very similar to mine! Almost as if I were out for a few flicks! Most enjoyable to watch your trip to the loch! Thanks for this! Tight lines!
Windy and damp is the norm in Scotland is it not? After 2 1/2 years living there, I still never learned the language. Tight lines sir! I am off to a local lake for some of the 20+ inch rainbows and brookies commonly taken. I now live on a blue ribbon trout stream in Montana where I was born and raised. Cheers
Hi Niall, No I've never fished for Arctic Char even though Loch Doon does have Char in it, they are very rare as I have only ever saw them when someone has caught them using bait..The last time I saw one was nearly 30 years ago and if you do catch one they must be returned as they are protected..I hope you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie
Hi @evilmothericebearkillerbir6016, Yes this feeds into the river Doon which is about 20 miles from the area that I normally fish. I have attached a link to the google map to show you where it is..I live in Ayr which is where it flows into the sea..www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Loch+Doon/@55.2444856,-4.4558784,12z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x4862861ae00ad119:0x4f3bfb084ebac6a!8m2!3d55.2446233!4d-4.3680435!16zL20vMGMyM3Zq?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTAwMi4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D All the very best Davie
Hi Richard, I was using a Cadence Line which as you said shoots out really well and is a lovely line to cast, when you buy the rod it comes free with it which is amazing as there's not many rod companies that do this.www.cadencefishing.co.uk/product/cadence-cf20-csm-10ft-fly-rods/ www.cadencefishing.co.uk/product/cadence-csm-fly-line/ All the very best Davie

Another very enjoyable video, Davie! I could almost feel the wind on my face. Thanks for sharing this trip.

You should be casting to the right let the flies drift down then retrieve at the end
