      @@malcolmjamesturnerIt’s ALL the Turkish made models - and ALL of those were previously Home Office approved… I don’t think the direction of venting makes any difference (front venting has been banned for many years, for the most ridiculous of reasons). Blank firers made by Italian company, Bruni, are not included in this ban (these are the predominantly orange painted ones that are still up on some suppliers websites) I’m not sure exactly what makes these ones ok - or why the Turkish manufactures have not been given the opportunity to rectify this situation by redesigning their models? As the (presumably convertible) barrels in these guns are an integral part of the lower frame, it should be possible to swap this part for a new one, so that only half the gun needs to be surrendered. This is obviously too sensible an option. An overnight ban, with no compensation, will achieve nothing! It will potentially criminalise thousands of owners of such guns, at the stroke of a pen - and for unscrupulous owners to recoup their loss by selling the gun to those who will convert them, likely for a premium, once legitimate supply ends!

    • @paulbirch6490
      @paulbirch6490 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Replica-Airgun-Lovers I disagree. It’s not the right thing to do - it’s an undemocratic, draconian, knee-jerk reaction to a problem that should be tackled from a different direction. After they banned most handguns (after Dunblane and Hungerford) a guy in Ireland took an empty fire extinguisher, filled it with petrol, re-pressurised it - and went on a rampage! So, would banning fire extinguishers prevent further occurrences? Or maybe ban petrol? It’s a nonsense. The UK has been eroding firearm possession since the early 1900’s. The government at the time were so shit-scared of there being an armed revolution (like had occurred in Russia) that they started to pick away at civilian rights to bear arms (this is why the US has their 2nd amendment!) It will NEVER stop, until every type of ‘weapon’ has been banned! You already need a license for an airgun in Scotland (and once your gun is ‘listed’ it can be taken away in the future) It’s only a matter of time. It will only take an airgun to be used in a terrorist attack, or something similar - and airguns will be GONE! 😢

My local paintball/airsoft site has had to lock away all their stock, until then are informed what to do… I’ve only known about this for a little over a week, but will not make brash statements without doing some research first. Given that the previously banned ‘Olympic .38’ eventually became available again, in a modified form - and that the rest of the Bruni models are ok (I’m pretty sure the Olympic .38 was from Bruni, or at least of Italian manufacturer) I hope the Turkish manufacturers can modify their models to comply in the same way. Unfortunately, the UK market is small although they have supplied top and side venting models for the UK (most of the rest of the world allows forward venting) Zoraki have never (to my knowledge) made any attempt to enter the UK market by changing their long-time banned models - but Retay, Ekol, etc already have a foothold (or at least their importer does - most likely SMK). It's the same with Airsoft guns and the UKARA (United Kingdom Airsoft Retailers Association) membership requirement. You need to provide a defence (You're a legitimate Airsoft skirmish player, reenactor etc) in order to be able to purchase Airsoft realistic imitation firearms (RIFs). Otherwise, 50% of the gun has to be painted in a bright colour like green, blue, orange etc. Yet many airgun companies are producing some of the same models in 4.5mm steel BB replica gun versions. Which can be purchased with just a form of photo ID like a passport or driving licence and something official with your name and address on it, like a bank statement. I hope they don't ban airgun replicas. But I for 1 would welcome a ban on crossbows. Or at least see a change in how they are sold to people. They can simply be bought online and sent through the normal postage couriers like Parcelforce etc. But airgun purchases can only be done via face to face with the retailer. Crossbows need to be sold in the same way. Even police background checks I would welcome. Because too many nutters are being able to get hold of weapons like these with no such checks whatsoever

    • @LoremIpsum1970
      @LoremIpsum1970 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's one caveat to RIFS under VCRA...Replicas with a design and mechanism of a sort first dating before 1870 are exempt from the new UK laws (S.A.A. .45's are exempt). Most blank and airsoft RIFs are available off the shelf in two tone these days, just like blank firers are, you only need to declare DOB and you don't need to provide ID. What's probably going to cause problems in the future is obsolete calibre arms and live ammo will next on the list (though you can't be legally in posession of both at the same time!), you only need to be over 18 to own and purchase. As for crossbows, why not include bows as well? I'd rather hope they spend more time on knife crime than restricting crossbows, and if you want a glimpse into the future, there's one state in China that makes knives over 6" illegal unless your information is etched onto the blade... I'm guessing knives will be required to have dull rounded tips at some point...but an amnesty on kitchen knives would be interesting to see.

What gets me is how if these can be converted in - I read somewhere - only 45 seconds, how have they been on open sale in the UK for years now? Don't the NCA test for that before they can be imported in the first place?????

    • @paulbirch6490
      @paulbirch6490 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ As far as I’m aware , all the affected models had Home Office approval (unlike guns from Zoraki, another Turkish manufacturer). Normally, there would be a period of consultation before such draconian action. Hundreds of retailers have had to lock their stock away, prior to whatever will happen. Will they be returned to Turkey? Will they be destroyed?? Will the retailers be compensated?? I have close ties to a paintball/airsoft site who were selling the affected guns and also hiring them out to players, as a safer alternative to pyrotechnic ‘thunderflashes’. This decision will impact their business and I feel very sorry for them. If these guns were ‘that’ easy to convert (45 mins) they would NEVER have been granted Home Office approval in the first place (the reason the Zoraki models have never been available in the UK (or only briefly) is because they were deemed too easy to convert). Strangely, Italian made models by Bruni are not affected - and I’ve no idea why? Presumably, they must be harder to convert (but how long before they too are banned?). IMHO the whole thing smacks of a monumental cock-up by the Home Office 😱

      @ifv2089 I always wonder why we never cover defence in the law, it's an offensive weapon that's the issue, but they never talk about defence. In theory you could still use a shield 😅

    Side-venting blank guns.
    These guns are legal to buy for anyone over 18, unless they are readily convertible. They are designed to only discharge blank cartridges and have a fully blocked barrel in their original state.

      You're missing the point. It doesn't matter whether you personally see the point of them. The fact is that the government is confiscating property from law-abiding people.
      Besides, there are legitimate reasons to have replicas. I used to have quite a collection of them, because I am interested in the history of firearms. I didn't think I was a gangster lol

      @@YrCleddyf I currently have my eye on a blank firing M3 ‘Grease gun’. It’s second hand, rather rough and £500! There’s also a Sten available - £1500 (new)! These are custom built from scratch, under strict conditions (so that parts are not interchangeable with ‘real steel’ versions). I do SFX for films, etc - so for me, this would be a business investment - though I’m very concerned that somewhere down the line, these will also be banned and I’d lose my investment 😢
