For those who don't know, there are 3 badlands albums. There's the self titled badlands, there is voodoo highway, and the hard to find "dusk" which I ordered through a cd store the exclusive company in Appleton wisconsin. Great great band.. timeless sound! Miss this era very much! Oh father time, why are you such a ball breaker?
Brilliant band, everyone is an ace,i'm listening to them now(2013) and i have to say they all play excellent, jake e lee is a Monster of the guitar, eric singer can break the ass of everyone, ray gillen is master of vocals, and the bass player does his thing ;)
boy that first badlands album was a perfect 10 these guys had it all, that elusive rock and roll chemistry that other bands wish and prey they had 1% of. Ray gillen was a born star and would have gone on to be an icon if he lived longer. R.I.P ray ; ( Let's hope jake blesses the world with something new soon,as he is the master.
Wow. I was just a wee kid in the 80s hearing music by zztop, motley crue, etc... The bands you usually heard on the radio or seen on mtv all the time. Recently discovered Badlands a few months ago and the way Jake plays and his tone is incredible.
@BeeGLooU I was there too :) Started the show near the back, and worked my way to the front (in front of Jake); yep, was in a full leg cast as I recall...one the best shows I have ever seen, hands down.
@NishHammer I was at the show too. There is footage on TH-cam from that night. I remember his leg was in a cast. I have some other clips from the Pepsi Power Hour, The New Music, ect. Will add in July when I have some free time. Mid to late 80's & early 90's stuff that I have not yet seen on TH-cam
@SoreEyeMusic Badlands didn't "fail". Ray passed on RIP RAY... Badlands was just breaking out into the mainstream when they were cut short. I saw them play twice, and the power of that band, with Ray's voice and Jake's playing was amazing.
Rock 'n' Roll Heaven was a great bar! Since I don't (and didn't) live in Toronto I missed out on Badlands and a lot of other cool bands playing there. I did catch some great acts there on my visits to town though, including Blue Oyster Cult, Blue Murder, Soho 69, and a few others. Badlands were a terrific band, so sorry that I never got to see them play live. But just as sorry that whole 1980's music scene died. Miss the bands, and miss bars like Heaven and The Gas Works.
Jake made a choice: continue to be told what to play by a guy who wouldn't let you shine, or strike out on your own and play what YOU want. I think Jake made the right choice. I respect him for it, and I still think he's an awesome guitarist.
Right on man...love this post I was there, I remember Jakes leg was in some sort of cast...any more vids from the Toronto Rock scene, RnR Heaven or the gas works!!!!Very Cool...thanks
Sounded like an ossum place if it had live bands like this! I thought this vocalist looked familiar he was on one of Tony Iommie's solo albums back in the late 80's. Music never dies because music has no age!
Every once in a while I see someone that will make me think of a hybrid of two other people. Here, Jake is looking like a hybrid of Brandon Lee and Sean Lennon.
Seems like Jake E. Lee was the only one of Ozzy's three guitarists during Ozzy's solo career that actually spoke up for what he wanted to play instead of Ozzy. Ozzy must've been a controlling guy. However, if you agreed to do what he wanted in music, he'd treat you like a son or the second version of himself. I'm glad the whole break up was finally made clear to me by this interview and I think Jake E. Lee was correct to go against the grain and pursue what he wanted to do, despite obscurity.
i think Zak fit No rest for the wicked 1988,perfectly. But wish OZZY would have re hired jake in like 2006 or before the recording of the last 2 CDs OR even before the previous one, Guss is Good But many Ozzy fans miss jake E Lee
Wow... Jake is sour concerning Ozzy, of course it's no surprise, he was kicked out for no reason really. But thing is; With Ozzy, he had everything. Biggest rock performer ever, and he was the guitar player filling in for Randy, big shoes to fill. But he couldn't play what he wanted to play. But it wasn't his choice, he was booted, no way he could've had a chance to stay. They threw him out, he didn't leave. Then, he tries to survive with Badlands, and fails. Now he plays with a shit low band...
We all have karma and its gonna knock on oz for stealing from Jake. Money and credit should be given to my man Jake for writing the greatest licks and melodies and if u define class a picture of Jake is right there and take out the c and l there is a picture of oz
I would love to get a group together to visit Rays crypt. Maybe a tribute band. I know the guitar to most every Badlands song and can sing them as well. So please respond to my TH-cam page where I am going to do more B L but only in a dream is up for now . I think I will go put something up now wut the hey. Again please let's get this together on his birthday or a Badlands significant date to let him know how much he is loved
Basiically there is a tremendous fear from most musicians to share or surrender any control of the music to another member. Because it's a dog eat dog industry and it's either feast or famine. And struggling and starving to eventually succeed . why ? Would you want to provide the opportunity for someone to upstage you.
but what you dont seem to realize is Ozzy used Jake like a tube of fucking toothpaste, when he was done he threw him away.if you know Ozzy and his lack of creativity/inability to actually write songs but great at stealing them, its almost guaranteed Jake put a lot of his influence and ideas into the songs and he got almost nothing from that .
They say "we're able to experiment" but they sound formula like another Whitesnake. Jake's playing and tone are awesome, no doubt. Singer sounds great. But... experiment? dudes... reality check. Blues. You didn't do anything experimental!
I have a ton of respect for Jake musically but he needs a songwriter, his approach is extremely generic. He sounds like Free and Zeppelin and so forth but has none of the defining qualities of these bands whose sound he mimics - there's just no lyric and no hook, it's forgettable well-rounded pablum. He could have learned from the OzzFather if he cared about contemporary metal song writing, in my opinion!
That first Badlands album was just amazing.
Jake is insanely handsome. My GOD.
Jake’s mom is Japanese
Two cuties who can sing and rock the guitar...
Awesome!!💜💜
Lee is such a badass, and the pipes on Gillen are just crazy great.
All these years, I had no clue what Jake's voice sounded like until I saw this video.
Jake is a true guitar hero for sure.
Such a great band, sounded nothing like hair metal or metal or grunge. Their 3 albums are well worth finding, and their live stuff was other level.

With only 3 albums, Jake E Lee’s Badlands is my 2nd favorite band of all time, behind The Mighty Zeppelin.
boy that first badlands album was a perfect 10

Ray gillen was a born star and would have gone on to be an icon if he lived longer.
R.I.P ray ; (

Thanks to whoever uploaded this video! Never seen this footage before until a few days ago!!!

would love to see more Badlands if you find time to post it!
unreal band, excellent live as well. RIP Ray nobody can fill his shoes
Hats off for the great Jake E. Lee, Ozzy show some respect to this guy, he made you up after Randy's tragedy!
R I P Ray, Jake is a guitar god forever
Haha I agree, I've loved his playing ever since I was a kid.
John Sykes and his band Blue Murder with Dirty Looks that same year at Rock 'N' Roll Heaven/ Fabulous, unforgettably wild times
One of the best Hard-Rock/Hair-Metal Bands ever!

JAKE E LEE RULES!!! THE BEST OZZY EVER HAD!!!!!!!
Jake made a choice: continue to be told what to play by a guy who wouldn't

I think Jake made the right choice. I respect him for it, and I still think he's an

fuck, jake looks beautiful as a woman and a fine dude as well
Sounded like an ossum place if it had live bands like this! I thought this vocalist looked familiar he was on one of Tony Iommie's solo albums back in the late 80's. Music never dies because music has no age!
GOD BLESS YOU, JAKE!!
Jake had a nice voice :)
R.I.P. Ray
PRICELESS.....wish it went better for them, but we have the great music...
Every once in a while I see someone that will make me think of a hybrid of two other people. Here, Jake is looking like a hybrid of Brandon Lee and Sean Lennon.
@JAKEeLEEvids2info This is the whole clip. It goes into the music vid for dreams in the dark where the interview ends. \,,/
I listen to all genres of music and must say this band was the real deal and did not get the support they deserved.
Seems like Jake E. Lee was the only one of Ozzy's three guitarists during Ozzy's solo career that actually spoke up for what he wanted to play instead of Ozzy. Ozzy must've been a controlling guy. i was there
I miss this band... God knows I miss Ray... Ray + Jake = SiCK
Hmmm why did my text seem so screwed up with all the extras ?
yup, agree
badlands were just an awesome band they were like a beefed up american version of led zeppelin on fire....
i think Zak fit No rest for the wicked 1988,perfectly.
But wish OZZY would have re hired jake in like 2006 or before the recording of the last 2 CDs
OR even before the previous one, Guss is Good But many Ozzy fans miss jake E Lee
Any Jake's fans know what guitar pick did jake use ?
i can't find any information on internet..
jake seems quite shy
Wow Jake E. Lee looks to me like Lennon & Yoko's lost son! I definitely see a physical resemblance there lol
@mrdeersniper WRONG...he's half asian(japanese) and half caucasian, but ALL american.
Wow... Jake is sour concerning Ozzy, of course it's no surprise, he was kicked out for no reason really. But thing is; With Ozzy, he had everything. @aaronamccoy He's half Japanese half American.
Dad sprites feel good
We all have karma and its gonna knock on oz for stealing from Jake. Money and credit should be given to my man Jake for writing the greatest licks and melodies and if u define class a picture of Jake is right there and take out the c and l there is a picture of oz
"You Know"
i think jake is camera shy
He's half Japanese
i always thought jake was from england..
@Afurthyclays Guess he was letting his guitar do the talkin', lol
jake e lee! XD

I know He used charvel around that time.

why ? Would you want to provide the opportunity for someone to upstage you.
@shannonmurphy75 He and Devin Townsend should hook up for that very reason -- I wonder what would happen...
but what you dont seem to realize is Ozzy used Jake like a tube of fucking toothpaste, when he was done he threw him away.if you know Ozzy and his lack of creativity/inability to actually write songs but great at stealing them, its almost guaranteed Jake put a lot of his influence and ideas into the songs and he got almost nothing from that .
trillriff-axegrinder That interview with Eddie Trunk regarding Bark at the Moon is pure evil on Sharon's part.
Why he had to die? He was so perfect as a singer and as a person...
A perfect singer, very close. A perfect person?! Hmm. A bit too careless at times, to his and others' detriment, or he'd have never contracted AIDS.
@csmpeoil wow man you gotta find some peace dude... You're easy to piss off aren't ye?
Ray Gillen Died
He did-AIDS related illness. He was bisexual and extremely promiscuous. I’m not judging-but he was.
They say "we're able to experiment" but they sound formula like another Whitesnake. Jake's playing and tone are awesome, no doubt. Singer sounds great. But... experiment? dudes... reality check. Blues. You didn't do anything experimental!
TruthSurge whitesnake?? Reality check..time for some hearing aids
No he does'nt , He regrets Ray Gillian Dying....That's what he regrets...
