It’d be a lot less messy using a fine mesh strainer, a sprayer hose and some kind of ladle, all of which I have, so I’m giving this a shot for my quail. Already breeding mealworms, already using the wheat bran for them, but the more the merrier.
wow this explains it all,, am a pig farmer and where i dump pig dung there are a lot of maggots' and the local chickens from my neighbor are always in my compound for the maggots' produced by the pig dung,,, i will start raising my own local chickens,,, before this video i thought they are not good feed to chickens.. all along I thought they might put the chickens at healthy risks
Actually you can not only harvest maggots from pig dung,.... within 5 days u will be able to make very good manure from the dung and it's good fertilizer for your maize, so stop wasting money, ...it May look disgusting but that is Monday
You run the slight risk giving the chickens botulism however it is not likely if it is prepared in a way as seen in the video. A mesh strainer to rinse is preferable if you can acquire or have access. Chickens who feed on maggots grow at the same rate as others and there is not a risk for you to consume.
Great video, much appreciated …best one I’ve seen but just would appreciate a few more details please ? I have put the manure out in a tray…some was fresh a and some were dry so I sprayed the dry ones with water….will that be enough ? Also not sure if any eggs have been laid yet…been out for 30 minutes. Should I just leave it all out there for some hours or how long in the sun please ? Then do I mix wheat bran with water before adding to the manure?would really love an updated version of this great video with all the exact details…it is so easy for you as you know but for us newbies the recipe so to speak and timing would be greatly appreciated😊
I do this for my chickens too to give em a balance diet my Nigerian lecturer gave me a lot of agriculture articles and this was in in along with mushroom production. İ have Neva weight my chickens so I'm going to make a control group to c how this goes.....those on maggot feed vs does not on it.
Your awesome man. Thanks for the time you put into this. I am looking to diversify my feed for my chickens. I was thinking worm farm but maggots seem like the fastest, cheapest and easiest option.
Is maggots of flays other than BSF larvae recommended for chicken feed ? I read from some literature that larvae of fly other than BSF larvae causes viral disease to human .
@@matthewmaynard5460 That's why he collects the eggs from the poop and let's them hatch in the meal... I collect the Flys in meal fly traps for them to lay directly in meal and the flies die and chickens get flies and maggots...

That’s incorrect. That larvae have to pupate into flys before they lay eggs
